The New Blues

I was gifted recently with two boxes of the new Ball Heritage Collection blue pint jars. These jars are available at various online retailers and regular stores. (I think mine came from Walmart.) They are replicas celebrating the 100th anniversary of the first true “Perfect Mason” jars.

What is really cool is that they are just the first in more vintage-inspired jars that will be coming out. I would love to see some in quart size, and also other period colors that are truly hard to find in the original–gold and green.

I’m not sure how long they’ll be selling the blue pints, so get ’em while you can. (And no, that is not an affiliate link above, not trying to make any money here.) I’ll definitely be looking to see what they put out next and crossing my fingers for some green or gold pints. Meanwhile, I had a hard time deciding what to put inside my new blue pints.

I could, you know, can in them, but I don’t think so. Pint jars can be used for all sorts of things, and colored jars are especially suited for decorative purposes. Though, to be honest, I really prefer the true vintage jars for display since I do have some genuine antique blue pints (and quarts).

But these are so pretty, and I want to use them. So I eventually decided that they would be perfect for drinks. Nothing like sweet tea over ice in a pint jar. Or it could also hold a truly relaxing quantity of wine. (Ha.)

Here is a genuine vintage blue Mason pint compared to a reproduction jar.

Zinc lid notwithstanding, nobody’s going to fake which is the original and which is the reproduction. The evidence is wisely embossed right on the jar.

Since these jars are being released in limited editions, they might gain value over time, but if you’re a canning jar addict like I am, you’d never sell them anyway!

You just have to possess them.

I ordered a dozen of these jars and got them last week! Love them and want more but can’t find them locally in Charleston. I’m with you Suzanne about wanting them in Quart sizes. Love these jars!

I’ve been seeing some canning pics in Facebook groups using these new jars. Peas look GREEN in them after canning. I prefer the vintage jars and have several but these are very pretty. Looking forward to seeing what comes out next. I like the vintage jars so much that we just painted my kitchen aqua as a background for showing off my half gallon blues 🙂

I, too, love the new blue jars! I keep looking at them in the hardware store and online but haven’t given in to temptation yet (don’t NEED them). I do have four vintage blue ones, 2 pints and 2 quarts, with the glass and wire lids, that my sis gave me.
Lucky you, Suzanne, for getting some as a gift!

MADE-IN-U.S.A. Yay! So pretty, nice use you found for them.

I have enjoyed using pint jars for drinking for years and have some with handles even though I don’t think you can can in them and I wouldn’t anyway. Those look very authentic. Lucky you!

What a GREAT Christmas gift for my Boys! Drinking jars and add cotton western handkerchiefs as napkins! Ado :dancingmonster: rable!

Yeah, when they first hit the market in March, I jumped on them and ordered 10 cases of 6. I’m excited too, about this being the first in a series. 😀

    now suzanne,
that would be a deceptively grandiose amount of wine in one of those pints…but you work so hard, when it’s time to relax, do it right.

I have several of the original pints and quart jars thanks to my mama and my late mother. Keep flour etc. in mine. I love them.

What a nice edition for today’s home caner, we have cases of the old jars both blue and clear, mine were purchased in the very early 60’s at farm sales, I don’t can much anymore but I use my jars for so many things. At Christmas, I like giving them as gifts filled with holiday Hersey’s kisses, finishing off each jar with a raffia bow.

:happyflower: Perfect for “Redneck Drinkin’ Glasses”… Getcha some blue, glass Candlesticks. Mount Blue, pint sized jars on top using Epoxy from Craft Store. (Ask for Epoxy suited for GLASS). Now you have “Country Elegance”!
