Working with Animals

I asked Coco if she wanted to put on the soapmaking goggles the other day when I was putting together my How to Make Soap post. Time to give the Giant Puppy a turn!

She wasn’t real interested.

Boomer?

Or–

Oh no.

NO.

I could never wear those goggles again if I let Dookie wear them. But by that time, Coco and Boomer had headed for the hills, making good their escape.

Can I get some cooperation here, people?

That one’s head’s too small.

That one’s head’s too big!

That one looks terrified.

And that one won’t look at me.

Clover!

One more time? Wear the goggles.

You look very, very beautiful in goggles, Clover.

They make you look thin! And rich!

CLOVER!

Even a cookie didn’t get me a good picture. Some days, you just have to take–

–what you can get.

All’s well that ends well…and that scarecrow lends itself so nicely!

  2. CindyP says:

๐Ÿ˜† Love it!! Sometimes they are just cooperative……..sometimes NOT! Jack(?) looked cooperative, just didn’t fit, though.

    :sun: Happy Saturday!

  3. Mary says:

Oh, that’s so cute. You just gave me a good idea for a scarecrow this summer.

  4. trish robichaud says:

i guess im going to have to be the first to say it, Dokie needs a bath and brushed very badly.i know its still winter and he cant stay out of the creek but he is like the old uncle that comes to visit and know one has the nerve to tell him he needs a bath. my friend has the same kind of dog and she keeps him shaved except for his tail ,ears, and feet.good luck and thank goodness we dont have smell-a-puter. lol

    • Suzanne McMinn says:

Trish, yes, he needs a bath and a grooming. As soon as it stops being so chilly, he will be clipped. He is a shih tsu and they will absolutely shiver shiver shiver if they get too cold, so we can’t clip him quite yet, he needs his coat. As far as the mud–it’s very muddy here and he goes out and rolls around in it!

  5. KentuckyFarmGirl says:

Have you been using Dookie to mop the chicken house again?? ๐Ÿ™‚ I love the terrified pic! That is so cute! My 3 year old said to tell you that scarecrow looks like WALL-E!

I bought goggles, gloves and a stick blender last night….I still need the lye and the digital scale…..oh and the milk goat LOL! She’ll be here in 2 weeks!

  6. Connie says:

I think Dookie needs a Spring cleaning. Like a bath and a brushing!

  7. Christine says:

I so love Dookie. My Mom’s outdoor Shih Tsu looks about the same this time of year. When she brings her home from getting groomed the other dogs don’t even recognize her.

That scarecrow photo is too funny.

  8. Christine says:

Ha, I just read the comments. It does look like WALL-E. lol

  9. Bertie says:

I love your sense of Humor Suzanne! I come here everyday and look forward to your cute stories and pictures of your animals and farm! Truly entertaining as well as educational! Don’t ever stop!

Well, now you know how the little red hen felt. Maybe if you had been making cookies instead of soap, you would have gotten more help!

  11. Hannah says:

Naughty critters! Mr. Scarecrow looked like a unicorn with the goggles on his horn!

  12. Barbee' says:

Love ’em all! With Dookie, I wouldn’t know which end to put the goggles on. Love his little front feet when he is all shaggy like that. Once clipped, they aren’t that cute any more; he just looks bowlegged. Funny little Dookie!

  13. catslady says:

I too think he looks like WALL-E lol. Love your animal posts.

  14. Nancy in Iowa says:

I’m afraid I think the scarecrow looks like something that’s been on the Univ. of Tenn.’s Body Farm!!! I’m sorry you’re going to have to make the soap yourself – no volunteers, huh?

  15. NorthCountryGirl says:

Mr. Scarecrow looks so dapper in those goggles. I bet he wouldn’t mind posing for other pictures in the future.

  16. rileysmom says:

Suzanne, I love your sense of humor! I can always watch any animals and laugh more than with any tv or movie! ๐Ÿ˜†

  17. Bonita says:

Look quickly from Clover to last photo…
    Quick
    Just 1/10 a second
Suzanne has captured a fleeting pic of a unicorn with goggles on its horn.
Won’t find that in any medieval tapestry!

  18. Yankee Gal says:

Oh my God….there are no words to describe how cute is that Dookie Dog. What a mop of canine! LOVE those little lower teeth sticking out!

  19. Chic says:

Dookie looks like our Chelsea…but I think Dookie has her beat at the moment with all that dirt. They have the same teeth too!

  20. The Retired One says:

You make me smile with almost every post…now I giggled when I saw Clover with those goggles on….if she could TALK! ha

  21. Anne says:

Ha ha …..just have to laugh as city folk don’t realize what a GRAND and adventurous life country dogs have and yes they get muddy, but we just use a towel and brush to clean them up! Dookie, you look awesome!!

  22. Jodie in Texas says:

Glad to hear that you wear goggles while making soap. Lye is serious stuff. I might try it this summer to make ahead some Christmas presents to go with some knitted wash clothes. Perfect gift especially if you make a mit out of the knitting, basically a double wash cloth but not a large, just to fit over your hand. I have a terry cloth one with a hanging loop from Germany. They must love baths more than American’s because I’ve never seen one of these in the U.S. Actually my BFF from Chicago gifted me with 2 of these a few years ago. I hoard them and don’t let anyone else use them. My husband makes due with normal wash cloths to wash up. The dog better stay away from them too! He loves to eat EVERYTHING! I’ll put a post up on my blog again soon about Seamus the Dog who eats Everything!

  23. lavenderblue says:

LOL-When I read the title of the post, I expected to see Jack with a plow hitched to him and the two of you ready to do some “sod bustin'” out in the garden.

  24. Cranberry says:

Oh Tom, I will always love you! I can just hear you now! and i adore chicken butts and every other part of them!
