I love the unexpected. See it?

(Photo taken on the deck of the Cheat River Inn Restaurant outside Elkins, WV.)

On this very rare weekend away from the farm (cousins and kids left in charge) to drive around in the gorgeous mountains, I was exposed to network TV, high speed internet, and restaurants!! I was baffled and dumbfounded by network TV since I have no idea what shows are what anymore. Restaurant food made me miss my own cooking. (Though the Cheat River Inn Restaurant is lovely–if you’re in the area, I recommend it!) And high speed internet……made me want to write my congressman. (Why oh why can’t we get anything but unreliable, slow satellite “high-speed” in the country?!)

My favorite quote from this weekend: Princess spent the first night with a friend then came back over to the farm on Saturday. On the phone before she came over to the farm, she said, “I’ll take care of the animals. I guess Clover needs a milkin’.” What a farm girl! She was ready to charge back to the farm and catch Clover up on her milking! (She has never milked Clover on her own before, without me being there.) Apparently, she didn’t get my memo that we were done milking for the time being, but despite Clover’s unrelenting, stubborn, ornery behavior, Princess was going to milk her! I almost hated to tell her no. But I like Princess and I didn’t want Clover to take her down for the count so I let her know that would not be necessary. Or even smart…..

So? So? Do you see the unexpected in the picture?

is it perhaps that sweet kitty cat in the basket above the door?

  2. Senta says:

I am not going to give it away but I see it and love it. My friend Kim and I spent the day making Carmel apple jam and it is wonderful. Now I can’t wait for the bread. :catmeow:

  3. AOrtz says:

Yes the pretty calico kitty in the basket above the door. :cattail:

  4. Patty says:

Kitteh!!! :catmeow: I wonder if it’s waiting on a bird to come home? 😎
That is an adorable back deck. Someday when my kids are old enough to stop destroying everything, I’ll be able to decorate like that. It’s so pretty!

I totally agree about high speed internet. I telecommute, so while I can live anywhere, it’s got to have decent broadband. Your slow satellite “highspeed” won’t cut it. When the mountains and back country gets cable, then I’ll move LOL.

Da cat in da basket over da door !!!

What a great pic. Makes me wanna be there!!

    Thanx!

Looks like a propane tank left of the door.

  7. anne says:

Looks like she is waiting for a birdie for her lunch !

I love cats. They are so independant .

  8. hayseed says:

Oh. I thought it was unusual to have a painting hung outside! 😎

  9. Ashley says:

The kitty just finishes out that plant holder perfectly. :hellokitty:

  10. Shari C says:

I believe the kitty wants to have a terrific view of everything including any little birdie that just might fly by. What a cute entrance.

It sounds like you re-discovered the rest of the world out there and will be glad to get back to yours now. I don’t blame you.

  11. m says:

Catin the basket … perhaps an ambush is in the works ???

  12. Mary Lou Middleton says:

I missed it. The first thing I noticed was the picture hanging on the wall.

  13. Granny Sue says:

The cat looks very comfy–and the Inn looks like a neat place to stay. I’ve heard about it but we’ve never stayed there yet.

Did you get a killing frost this morning? I think we did but had to leave too early to see. We’ve been lucky this yer, so we can’t complain.

  14. MARY says:

:butterfly: LOVE the deck, and the kitty in the basket! Looks like a good place to get pie porch ideas! :treehugger:

  15. Suzanne, the Farmer's Wife says:

I don’t know but I think I see a shower head at the top of the photo.

  16. Becky says:

Very unexpected place for the kitty. They like to be “above” everyone else. Kinda fits their personality.
It’s nice to get away occasionally, but what’s better is…
    coming home.

  17. Christine says:

How on earth did that cat get up there?!

  18. Robin G. says:

Ooh! Kitty! Probably thinking, “I am a bird. I am just a bird. Come, my bird friends, let us sit together and speak of bird things.”

  19. Lucy says:

Here kitty kitty kitty. Love it!

  20. Claudia W. says:

I had to cheat about the picture from Cheat River Inn to get the answer…get it? LOL Okay I’ll stop now! That deck is very comfy looking. I wish I had the talent (and money) to do that!

  21. Angie says:

I have that cat’s twin sitting just like that in my (now dead) flower box on my deck. I can see her right out the window and seriously – JUST like that one. :catmeow:

  22. Latane says:

Yes, the cat in the basket over the door. What a clever idea of yours to make us look and look. If I ever get over that way I will definately eat at the restaurant. It looks charming and quaint. I am glad you got away to enjoy the mountains. They should be beautiful this time of year.

  23. Gail says:

The kitty cat looks just purrfect there! I agree with you about eating out in restaurants…I’d rather eat my own food at home. (especially after a bout of food poisoning a month ago!)”High speed” satellite is NOT what it’s supposed to be…mine is almost as slow as dial up! But, cable means
a more populated area, and then there goes the beauty and peace of the country. I’ll stick it out with satellite!

  24. Karen L says:

Looks like my kitty! She still surprises me sometimes with the places she manages to get to and then view me from on high. She still likes to stalk visitors from the top of the kitchen cabs – all you can see are her ears and her eyes.
I love little surprises like that when you’re traveling around – Glad you had a fun wknd.

  25. Donna says:

:catmeow: Ohhh, I see the kitty now..how PRECIOUS. I looked and looked and saw NOTHING…I was guessing that big stick being that thing you search for water for. LOL How PRECIOUS!!!
Is Princess not THE SWEETEST daughter in the world!!!! Best daughter EVER!
I’m sorry Suzanne, but I would NEVER miss MY cooking, eating in a resteraunt. LOL But, yes, there are times we have eaten out WAY too much and I did miss a home cooked meal. I would still hire a cook before a housekeeper ANYDAY. ha! But, I am making a big ol pot of Chicken n Dumplings today and doubling the dumplings and I would miss THAT.

  26. Jodie says:

I cheated and read the comments. Didn’t see the kitty at first. Sounds like you had super weekend (with 52?)

  27. Annie says:

Who stole my Puddin? She looks just like that!

  28. Tammy says:

I’m not usually very good at this sort of thing, but I found her! Guess those hours I spent this weekend on my favorite hidden object game paid off.

  29. Dejoni says:

I thought there was a ghost in the door…dumb me…now I see the cat!

  30. Suzette says:

Love the kitty! And I love the beautiful drives around Elkins. I was there in the fall a few years ago, and so I know what a treat it is. What a great little “vacation.”

  31. TeresaH says:

hmmm…to me the cat was too obvious. I spotted it right off the bat…there has to be something else I’m missing!

  32. Tori Lennox says:

LOL! I didn’t even notice the cat. I thought the surprise was the painting hanging on the outside wall. 🙂

  33. Margie Smith says:

:cattail: Looks like everyone saw the cute kitty over the door. I have three of the little critters! Love them. Went to England last year and as I was walking down the street, there in a window was a tabby performing for us. I took lots of pictures.

  34. catslady says:

Kitty fits right in lol. When I was very young we used to take a couple days and visit Cheat Lake – beautiful.

  35. momanna98 says:

I HATE our satellite! It comes and goes and is so frustrating to have to pay so much for it. But then, I guess sometimes fast is better than never fast with dial-up. But I was just so spoiled in the city…

  36. Kara S says:

    Kitty is hilarious! :catmeow:

Our satellite was really slow and unreliable for about the first 6 weeks we had it. I kept doing the speed test thing through the hughes site. Some days it would be fast, some days slow. I finally had enough and called and complained. They make you jump through a bunch of hoops and do this and do that, but eventually they’ll figure out that the satellite is slightly misaligned. The tech guy had to come out and adjust it. Once they did ours, it worked wonderfully for the remaining 9 months that we had it. Great speed and reliable. I had someone else tell me the same thing about theirs so you might want to complain to the company if you haven’t already. Oh, and skip the first level of support people. They read from a script, can’t figure out a problem, and barely speak English.

Also, call your phone company frequently about getting DSL. We called about every 3 months or so and I guess they got tired of us calling because they extended the service to us.

  37. Susan says:

The kitty was the first thing I saw. That isn’t unusual though, I’m always looking for cats! :purr:

  38. Jessica says:

haha, my cat does the same thing on the top of the fridge! we’ll walk into the room and he’ll playfully tap our heads just to let us know hes up there! too cute! https://chickensintheroad.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/cat88.gif

  39. Brandy says:

Aww, how cute! That is definitely unexpected and I’m wondering how it got up there! *G*

  40. Harriet Herrington says:

  43. jan-n'-tn says:

Is that a chicken I see, hiding amoung the flower pots?
    Maybe hiding from the kitty?

  44. Liz says:

:catmeow: Has to be the Kitty!

Here is a neat Kitty for your viewing!

  45. Kelly says:

Last time I was in Elkins I was fifty pounds lighter and twenty-five years younger !
I think sometime in the next twenty-five years I will go back :]

  46. Carole @ Fowl Visions says:

Could be the kitty but with an entry like that it is all beautiful!

I can relate the satellite internet. I recently moved out in the country and left my DSL and Direct TV behind. We are now sattelite internet and tv antenna with local channels.

    Good-bye city life!

  47. Lisa in California says:

It must be the kitty hanging out in the basket above the door. Too cute! That’s a great vantage point for her/him.

  48. Mokihana says:

Wonderful photo! Reminds me of a cat we used to have who always loved to go up on the roof.

    We named her Fiddler.

  49. Melissa says:

I don’t know if this is what you’re referring to, but I loooove the kitty above the door!

  50. sasha says:

love the kitty! Also love high speed internet – just moved from your area this summer and one of the requirements was HIGH SPEED internet. After 10+ years of dial-up internet – I was sick of it. I do miss the beautiful scenery you keep posting about. Keep it up!

  51. yzoniegirl says:

Is it the cat in the basket above the door?

  52. yzoniegirl says:

sorry, for some reason the replies didn’t show when I posted. Sorry again.
