On the Bright Side

I’m standing….

….on our floor!!!!

Steve-the-Builder is completing the flooring in the main living area today. He’ll stop before flooring the rest to install the kitchen cabinets. Then he’ll go on flooring (hardwood goes throughout the main floor and loft bedroom) and he’s promised me a bathroom by Saturday. DirecTV is scheduled for installation. We have phones, electricity, and gas. The only thing standing between me and my fantasy March 8th move-in date is the water crisis. (No new drilling yesterday or today. As soon as I have an update on the water, I’ll let you know! We’re hoping to try again soon.)

In the meantime, after checking on the flooring progress yesterday, I sat down in one of these rocking chairs and listened to the wild turkeys in the woods and looked over my domain of trees and hills and river below.

Our house is almost ready for us. There’s water here somewhere. I believe….

  1. Treasia says:

 Have faith you will find the water needed. I envy you the time spent listening to the wildlife. Oh to be back in the mountains again myself.

  2. jan says:

:drowning: The floors are beautiful. Water will come I am sure of it.

  3. Carol W says:

Fingers crossed it won’t be long. The house is fabulous

  4. Heidi says:

OH I SO SO SO want to come down, sit on that porch and eat PIE!! any kind of pie.. It looks like a pie kind of porch.. then I want to walk in my socks on your wood floor cuz it reminds me of rollar skating.. :rotfl: It looks so beautiful there, I am so far beyond jealous that there isnt even a word for how I feel. :snoopy: You should have a come see Sue tour, we all take turns on the weekends and come down to visit you!!! :bananadance: Hope we get to see pictures of your cabinets – I think March 8th is DOABLE!! good luck dahling.

BTW – its 7 degrees here this morning :wall:

  5. Blaze says:

    Nice house!
I hope you can get the water situation figured out soon, get a good well drilled so you can get all moved in quick.
Nothing worse then a long drawn out move. :clock:

  6. lintys says:

Everything is looking wonderful there! How great it’s going to be to relax on that beautiful porch and enjoy your lovely view! My fingers and toes are crossed for you getting the water situation taken care of and getting moved on the 8th.

  7. Mental P Mama says:

It looks wonderful! I love the finished floors. And, I’m sure you will find water… :drowning:

  8. Sarah in Sanford says:

Suzanne, love the color of paint you chose and LOVE,LOVE,LOVE your hardwood floors. They are gorgeous. I agree with Heidi about those rocking chairs. When can we come?

  9. Kim A. says:

Princess’s room looks fantastic; well done!

Love the hardwood floor, the porch, the rocker, etc.

You’ll have a well soon; take heart!

  10. kacey says:

Love the floor. Gorgeous! Here’s hoping they find water soon so you can move in soon!

  11. Robin G. says:

Lovely floorboards. Too many people go with a light pine color when they really need a darker wood, I think.

  12. Suzanne McMinn says:

Oh, sure, come for pie when it’s all over. Who’s coming with a truck this weekend to move furniture?

    I’ll make pie….. :sheepjump:

  13. Suzanne McMinn says:

Notice how the paint color looks different in different lights? I noticed that in the various rooms yesterday. In some lights, it looks almost golden, in other lights, more tan. In darker rooms like the bathroom, the hint of green comes out in it. I like it in any light, but it’s interesting how the color changes.

  14. Kim W says:

I’m so excited for you!! The floor, the porch, the rockers…even the turkeys…what a great place. I hope you DO make that March 8th move in date.

I just love those wild turkeys. In our county (a rural Ohio county), there are places where you have to actually stop your car and let a big gobbler and his harem walk across the road!! WAY cool! :talktothehand:

    Blessings from Ohio…

  15. Claudia W says:

I have a small truck, will that help?!? And any kind of pie will do, just keep a rocker ready.
I love how your house is coming along. Your choices are fabulous. I hope everyting goes well from here on out!

  16. Jill S. says:

    Yay, you’re so close!!!!

  17. Becky says:

I LOVE the floor!!! I want hardwood floors so bad! We actually have them under the carpet, but it can be a nightmare if the padding is stuck, which I’m afraid of. Eek!

Princess’s room looks awesome! She is going to love that color because it’s so versatile!

  18. Cheryl says:

    WOW! So beautiful!

There was a show in the 70’s and one of the guys used to always say “I LOVE IT WHEN A PLAN COMES TOGETHER!” Can’t remember the show BUT………….You are almost there!

I will shoot a prayer up for the water. You WILL find water!!

  19. Lora says:

    Hey Suzanne,
The house is looking gorgeous! Love the hardwood.
We recently moved into an old house and just finished painting the dining room and have decided the oak floors need to be refinished.
I sighed when I saw yours!
    Hang in there….water is coming.

  20. Shirley says:

I was very skeptical about your movein date. But it’s looking more and more like you just might make it. And I love the ‘old’ look of the flooring you picked. It is perfect with your walls and the style of your house. You are doing great girlfriend.

And there will be water. I hope it is sweet water too. My dad used to be the best at finding sweet water. Wish he was there to help you.

When I was younger and helped my friends move, while they moved the heavy stuff I couldn’t, I always made their beds for them. That way when everyone left, and they were so tired they couldn’t move, they could take a bath and just drop into bed. I had so many people tell me how much they appreciated not having to get their beds ready after a long hard day of moving stuff.

Maybe you can get Georgia to come and she can make your beds for you. I would, but I have that ‘I have to work’ thing going on.

  21. Kim says:

I’ve just discovered your blog and have spent some wonderful time reading about your books, kids, new house, old house, etc. It’s been such a lovely way to pass the time. You’re bringing me back to the three years I spent in a cabin in the woods in the depths of rural Indiana. The cabin was a wreck (old, mushy, mice, soggy ceiling), but it had porch with a view like yours. I miss the trees.

    Best wishes on the water…

  22. Suzanne McMinn says:

Shirley, the builder called yesterday and told me he was concerned the flooring didn’t look perfect. I told him we didn’t want it to look perfect! We want it to look like an old farmhouse. In fact, it looks too new, but cat and dog nails will take care of that soon enough!!

I’m still not sure we’ll be able to move this weekend or not, but the house will be ready (not completely finished, but close enough to live in). It’s the water and the weather that may stop us. (Snow’s in the forecast.)

  23. Amy says:

:drowning: This is for water! Go to the hardware store and asked around for the best Water Witch! You need someone good. Obviously the last guy was a trainee!

  24. Amy Addison says:

The house is gorgeous. Absolutely gorgeous. I love the color on the floors and the paint and, just, everything. I’m so excited and can’t wait for you to move in!

You’ll find water, Suzanne! I know you will.

    ::fingers crossed for water::

  25. Teresa says:

I am soo excited to have found your site. The house is just beautiful.
I have been looking back at some of your old posts and pictures.
I grew up in WV, Looneyville to be exact!! All of my family still live there on that little country road called Flat Fork by the post office. Did you notice the outhouse by the church?
I would end up with a million cats if I were ever to come back to the country. Dr. Cain would have to get an assistant. :catmeow:
I am in Charlotte, NC now, but I sometimes dream of the country life.
I hope to catch up on reading all your good stuff you have posted.

  26. Susan says:

I love the hardwood floors! Everything looks beautiful. :shimmy: I have faith that the next time they drill for water it will be successful!

  27. Brandy says:

Here’s to hoping for water! The floors look gorgeous. And I LOVE those Rocking Chairs.

  28. Tori Lennox says:

I hope you get the water situation straightened out soon so you can get moved in!

  29. Bayou Woman says:

I love the floors, they look “aged” already! Hope that’s ok if I see them that way!! This is sooooo exciting! Seeing everything coming together at the last minute. Good luck with the H2O Yo!

  30. catslady says:

Water, water everywhere but not a drop to drink  Tell those drillers we’re all going to come and get them if they don’t find water NOW!

  31. Estella says:

Your floors are gorgeous! I love hardwood flooring.
    Think positive about the water.

  32. Heidi says:

I have a truck and would help you move in BUT it would take me 3 days to get there with 2kids…. I even have a horse trailer that we could shove everything into and make 1 trip!!!! I would help ya in a heartbeat if I wernt a couple thousand miles away. :clock: Cheryl that saying was from the A-team.. Hanibal said it all the time.. I LOVED THAT SHOW, almost as much as Sues rocking chairs and pie porch.

  33. jean says:

Where did you get those rocking chairs? They look so comfortable.

  34. annbb says:

I’ve always wanted a front porch with rocking chairs….never had one…will live vicariously through yours. Thanks!

  35. Suzanne McMinn says:

Jean, we got those rocking chairs on sale at Value City Furniture for $49 each months ago. We got six of them. (Only two of them are put together so far!)

  36. Linda in San Diego says:

:drowning: Water blessings for you this week. :drowning: In my/our 20s we had a moving company made up of friends and thier trucks. We called ourselves the Ram It and Cram It Moving Companay and our motto was “We Can Make Anything Fit”, our fee? Pizza and Beer – I would call together the old group if only we could get there from So Cal before you need us! And unfortunatley, we Southern Califonians cannot even function where there might be snow….But if you are in San Diego and want to see the Zoo, call, I can get you and yours in with my connections (son who works there)! :woof:
