Getting Ready for Thanksgiving

I’m making my lists and checking them twice. Chopping onions and celery, baking Grandmother Bread and cornbread.

The dressing is coming, the dressing is coming!

The turkey is thawing in the refrigerator.

Pie dough is chilling. Pies are coming, pies are coming!

Small pumpkins are being carved out for candle holders for the table. Homemade whole berry cranberry sauce is chilling. Thanksgiving is coming, Thanksgiving is coming!

It’s time for cleaning and cooking, decorating and primping.

We will be having turkey, cornbread dressing, cranberry sauce, gravy, mashed potatoes, green beans (home-canned), scalloped corn (fresh-frozen from the farmers market), cornmeal yeast rolls, and pies and cookies, oh my!

Here are some of my Thanksgiving recipes that you can find here on the blog:

Old-Fashioned Cornbread Dressing.

Whole Berry Cranberry Sauce.

Scalloped Corn.

Cornmeal Yeast Rolls.

I haven’t absolutely decided yet which cookies and pies I’m baking.

All my cookie recipes are here.

All my pie recipes are here. Don’t forget the best pie crust in the world.

I cooked a big pork butt this week to make dinners easy while I’m focused on the feast. Rolls for sandwiches one night. Fajitas with homemade tortillas another night. Pizza the next. It leaves me free to play with Thanksgiving.

I like to get as much of the prep work done early as I can. I will fix the cornbread dressing today and put it in the fridge (unbaked). Wednesday I’ll even fix the mashed potatoes in advance and put them in a crock pot to be heated up on Thursday. I’ll bake pies and cookies today and tomorrow. I want the actual day to be relaxed and fun!

I love fun.

And now I am going to break my own rule and actually acknowledge something said about me on another site. Which I never do. However, I thought this was so hilarious, and appropo to this post, I couldn’t resist sharing it with you.

From the comments on another site: “Look out for chicken lady because she is only other candidate that is not painfully annoying, however, I have a sneaking suspicion that she has a full time staff like Martha Stewart.”

Staff?

P.S. How is your Thanksgiving prep coming? Are your chickens helping you? BECAUSE IF THEY ARE, SEND THEM OVER HERE.

Comments

  1. Marla says:

I’d take that as a compliment…”nobody could possibly get all that work done without help!” Actually, in the heirarcy you’re the staff and all the animals are holding out for management. They’re vying for jobs as CEO, Board of Directors, etc. You know, all the jobs where you actually don’t have to do all the manual labor. You’re doing a nice job “Chicken :chicken: Lady!”

    I voted… :duck:

  2. Darlene says:

I chuckled when I saw that comment. Your fluffy butt staff look a little nervous. Has anyone informed them that Mr. Turkey showed up for dinner?

  3. SkippyMom says:

Yep! The turkey has been cooked, gravy made and oyster dressing done [love me some oyster dressing] all frozen. Cranberry relish is in the fridge. All the sides [with exception of the mashed taters] will be done on Wednesday evening and cooked on Thursday.

This is the first year I did this but I had to because the beloved ILs are going out of town and requested gravy, the relish, dressing and my yeast rolls to take with them. I don’t think the trust my SILs cooking. πŸ™‚ So bonus – half our meal is done. Woohoo!

    • SkippyMom says:

Oh, I forgot to add – the pic’ of the cat on the dishwasher cracked me up! He looks so comfy!

      • blossom says:

Well done Suzanne, you’ve got them rattled!!

i’m always soooo impressed by the amount of stuff you get through, i know how easy it is to get distracted on a farm.

if you’re anything like me , on the way to let the chickens out you see a fallen branch that would make good kindling so have to collect it, then there is the wood pile to sort which is next to house and oh my, some tiles have blown down, and oh yes, those chickens are still waiting…………

        • carol says:

Unfortunately, you don’t have to live on a farm to get distracted! I have a small apartment in Dallas and I can walk to the work room to get a can of bird seed for my balcony feeder and see a stack of mail that needs to be gone through and find a bill that needs to be paid and on the way to get my check book, the phone rings and it’s my husband asking me to look for a camera lens which is in the bedroom where I see a load of wash that needs to be put in the washer. The birds do eventually get fed but about an hour later than I planned.
Life is complex….but lovely. And I’m thankful for the birds, money to pay bills, the jobs that provide that money, clothes that need to be washed and a loving husband who calls me!

  4. NorCalRN says:

I found your blog via a comment ( a good comment!) on Cold Antler Farm…. I’m really liking your blog and intend to dig a lot deeper as I find time! I’d love to win a Calendar, too! πŸ™‚

  5. CindyP says:

I’m using a few of those recipes myself!!! Hunh….actually all of them, and a few more!! Gotta have asparagus casserole (just like green bean, but swapping for asparagus!) using homemade cream of mushroom soup!

Rally, people, rally!! I voted this morning, and we’ve dropped to 3rd by a big chunk!! There is a topic over in the forum where we’re discussing the vote, if you’d like to come join us!!!
    :sun: :happyflower: :sun: :happyflower: :sun:

  6. Andrea says:

Happy Tuesday to you and your staff!

  7. Kathleen in Michigan says:

    I’m still voting!

  8. trish robichaud says:

11,689 thats the vote count now. i cant believe the nerve of some people. just because they cant multi task, they question evryone elses ability to. we know the truth, she needs to spend the day with citr and she would be hooked like all the rest of us.have a good day everyone!

  9. Brenda says:

We all love your staff!!!
    I voted

  10. Tracey In Paradise Pa. says:

:sun: Your Staff looks exactly like mine!! :sun:
    Hugs Granny Trace’

  11. Cecelia says:

The pure ugliness just can’t stay hidden in some people. πŸ˜• My mom and I are enjoying your recipes. Thanks so much for sharing. We are following a family tradition we just started for ourselves two years ago. We are saving a turkey and having trout for Thanskgiving dinner. LOL

    Cece

  12. KateS says:

Staff!!! Staff would be ALMOST as good as one of those ‘wife’ things I hear some people have that cook and clean and raise the kids. I hear they are real handy TOO!

    3rd??? Well – that’s just wrong! Vote!

  13. Jeanne says:

There, voted again for you and your staff! :chicken:

  14. Harbor Hon says:

I’m with Marla. I’d take it as a compliment to how much you can accomplish and still keep YOUR good mood mojo working. That first picture is magazine worthy too; just absolutely wholesome. Keep reaching for the stars, Suzanne, you’re going to make it girl! xxoo

  15. Johanna says:

I wish my family allowed me to host Thanksgiving, but since I’m a vegetarian they refuse! The best thing about the holiday meal is all the side dishes!! What are they thinking??!! Oh, well.

I hope everyone remembers what they are most thankful for and honors the spirit of the holiday.

  16. Cindy says:

Ugh. I did NOT like the vote tally this morning. :hissyfit:

One of the things that dawned on me while looking over some of the competitor’s blogs is that you have such useful content! We learn things and have new recipes to try on top of having good clean fun from your sense of humor that underlies your less serious blogs. However, the city people probably don’t get the whole self-sufficiency thing like we do. It is just such a different life when it is work, home, entertainment. I can take a week at a time of it when I visit family in a beautiful downtown Chicago condo but then I am longing to get back to my country home and some meaningful work!

Off to vote on the laptop and wishing you all the best, Suzanne!
    Cindy in Indiana

    • Myrna Mackenzie says:

Oh, Cindy, there are city people among you! :happyflower: I live in the Chicago suburbs when I’m not up in Wisconsin.

Suzanne’s blog is universal! It’s so awesome to me that we can all (city and country dwellers) meet here and find common ground and a sense of community. And I love reading all the tips in the comments section. There’s just a warmth here that can’t be packaged or bought. So, hello to all of you who live in the country from a city girl (who was actually born in the country)! Thanks for sharing your personal stories.

  17. Heidi533 says:

Wouldn’t it be nice to have a staff? I chuckled when I saw that comment.:o)

As for Thanksgiving prep, since we are going to my moms I’m just making some sides, a pie and deviled eggs. I had totally forgotten about cranberry sauce though. I’m going to add that to my list.

  18. Judy@daily yarns says:

I sure would take that as a compliment “chicken lady”. I can’t send you mine they are slacking on the job over here…sorry… :chicken:

  19. Butterbean says:

Oh wow! Love your staff! That was too funny!

  20. CATRAY44 says:

I finally figured out where to leave the comments on the SAM-E website! I am trusting the Sam-E chicken staff will be reading through your blog and will see the jewel that you are!

  21. Amy says:

:sheepjump: The staff are goofing off, you better get them in line.

  22. trish c says:

Love your staff!!! At least Martha can’t say that you don’t “bake” like she did to Rachel Ray!!

We will all keep voting. We know you should be the clear winner of this job.

I know for sure your followers will read the blog on SamE daily. I wonder if the other contestants can ensure that?

Have a nice day and thanks for the laughs this morning.

  23. angelridgmom says:

Staff? Wow! What a compliment! You are that amazing Suzanne!

  24. Becky says:

Sounds like you have Thanksgiving all wrapped up. And you WILL be enjoying the day! Doesn’t surprise me, with the staff you have. Tee hee
That Chicken Lady comment cracked me up. Am I sensing a bit of nervous competition worry?! GOOD! They should be worried. Because you ARE gonna win.
Dec. 8 headlines, “The Chicken Lady Reigns!”
    “Oh, hail, Chicken Lady” *snicker*
    Good luck, Suzanne!!!

  25. JOJO says:

    :woof:
    Suzanne–your menu looks delicious,
Do you have room at the table for 300 or 400 of your avid readers?
We can all bring a dish!
The best part about Thanksgiving is all the yummy leftovers.
It is my favorite holiday –I am thankful we have you in our life.

    Jo

  26. Mary says:

Good Morning, Your Thanksgiving meal sounds delicious, and I intend to use some of your ideas. I even bet some of SAMes staff will be using them too. They will be coming here long after the contest is over. Thank you for always making me smile in the morning.

  27. Betsy says:

I’m on attempt three for Grandmother Bread hoping I can get it to rise… The birds in my yard are loving me for the previous failures. πŸ™‚ I WILL be serving your cornmeal pull apart bread at Thanksgiving if it the last thing I do. That corn dish looks awesome!!

  28. Berta says:

Lead photo today is amazing.Your eye for composition never falters.
Today I’ll be cleaning, baking, washing all that dusty stemware, putting another leaf in the table, assembling linens and serving pieces…making the cranberry relish (with orange and ginger) the applesauce (with jalapeno!)…more bread is rising for stuffing since we ate most of the first batch. I’ll prep some veggies, make pie dough, etc.
I’ll go out and CUT BROCCOLI…IN MICHIGAN…this fall has been so spooky mild that I still have baby buds out there, also New Zealand spinach, the tips are still tender. That stuff never quits.
First I have to tear myself away from CITR…at 8 am I’m OUTTA
HERE…(I really mean it this time, really I do).

  29. Renita says:

If only we had as staff! Your meal looks delicious. Can we come over? Oh wait that would be quite a drive.

  30. Debnfla3 says:

I too will take that comment as a compliment…I’m part of a “staff”!

I am amazed as always at what all you get done. Multi tasking at your best!

I have got to make that scalloped corn dish, it looks amazing!!!

    Now, I’m off to vote!

    Deb

  31. Rebecca says:

The comments from the other site are pretty funny. It is always a compliment to have outsiders acknowledge that one is NOT annoying.
I laughed out loud at the “staff” bit.
Have to go start my cornbread dressing…

  32. AsTheNight says:

Staff? Oh, Staff! Yeah, I have them, too.

Mr. Bad Squirrel is in charge of gathering nuts. Mr. Cardinal will prepare the seed, and Mr. Woodpecker is responsible for the suet.

This year, it’ll be just Rod, the Deer Family (who must eat outside since they’re not housebroken) and me.

All my veggies are prepared since they’re summer goodness from my tiny garden or the farmer’s market.

We’re having game hens, stuffing, gravy, corn, Brussel sprouts, sweet taters, mashed taters and something else that’s slipped my mind.

    Oh. Pie. Apple pie.

Voted (11963 votes), and was shocked to see that two other people have higher numbers. I’ll Tweet more often.

  33. carol says:

Brined turkey, candied yams, mashed potatoes, dressing, green bean casserole….hmmmmm….other stuff that my little mind is too full to bring to the front so I can type it. I work today and tomorrow so I have several lists going and many different directions to run in!
I will forever refer to chickens as Fluffy Butts now. Makes so much more sense than just ‘chickens’.

  34. heidiannie says:

Anytime someone starts referring to you as a Martha Stewart, then you know they fear you. Period. I think more people are afraid of Martha’s power and influence than admire her cooking savvy or decorating hints.
And you haven’t fired any of your “staff”-or do I mean fried any of your “staff” so you are way ahead of Martha!

  35. IowaCowgirl says:

    Chicken-Lady,
My staff has volunteered to help with Thanksgiving – only because it is such a notoriously fowl holiday and they are bovines.

BTW, I have posted twice to the top-20 SAM-e list and nothing comes up. In fact, the messages haven’t changed for hours…???

  36. Melinda says:

your staff will be expecting insurance, vacation time, paid holidays…..gezzzzz…..where do chickens go on vacation I wonder? πŸ˜† πŸ˜† πŸ˜†

    Have a great day Suzanne….

  37. Darlene in North Georgia says:

Our Thanksgiving and Christmas menu is the same and Written. In. Stone. Granite. If you must know!

Turkey, bread & sausage stuffing, gravy, potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce (jelly ONLY!), black AND green olives, homemade pumpkin pie (from REAL pumpkins), Hershey Bar Pie and Chocolate Pecan Pie. :hungry:

Now if I can just get SON to finish washing the dishes so I can get into my 3’x4′ kitchen :hissyfit: , I’ll be THRILLED.

  38. Susan D. says:

I just voted. Is this contest just based on who gets the most votes?

  39. Jennifer Millett says:

Love it! That’s great. I’m surprised they aren’t more willing to help considering the meal is turkey and not chicken…..

  40. Gayle says:

Love the fluffy feathered fannies of the staff.
    πŸ™‚

  41. JOJO says:

    :woof:
Hello- everyone–I have left 2 post on the Sam-e web page, and neither is showing-what am I doing wrong?
    Jo

  42. DragonLady says:

Suzanne: I have always been a fan of Martha Stewart, but I admire you much more for your determination and self-sufficiency. I’ve learned more from reading your daily blogs, than I could ever learn from dear Martha. Even though I was born and raised in West Virginia, I am not a “country girl”, but it doesn’t mean I never wanted to be. Happy Thanksgiving!

  43. Leanna says:

Ha! I guess that comment is a complement in a way. You and ‘your staff’ do an amazing job! Voting and wishing you luck in the contest! Happy Thanksgiving!

  44. Chic says:

:chicken: Your staff is about as helpfull as mine! Cute butts though! Since I’m not hosting Thanksgiving I just have to make a couple of things to take with us so one will probably be your Scalloped Corn and something from your pie collection and Grandmother Bread. Christmas is my time to cook so you know where I’ll be going for my recipes! I voted and the rest of the family up north and out west will be voting shortly. WE WANT YOU TO WIN!!! :hungry2:

  45. Abiga/Karen says:

Looks like your staff is related to the staff runniing this farmette too. I always go out to the barn to consult with the goats, hmmm or is it for some peace and quiet from the grandkids. Ah well going to vote now, blessings.

  46. KentuckyFarmGirl says:

Your Thanksgiving dinner looks delicious!! I have been making fudge, pumpkin rolls, peanut butter balls, chocolate covered cocunut balls for the last 2 days. Two huge trays went to the clinic and hospital today. Another will be for family dinner.

I knew this round would be tough because you did so great in the last one! They were expecting you this time! I’m voting, posting, emailing, facebooking and begging! You SO deserve this job!

  47. Gail says:

I just voted and you are in the lead! Yeah!I cracked up over that comment from another blog.Shallow people get jealous quite a bit and whine, whine, whine. As the other commentors on your blog say, and I agree, take it as a compliment because you are the best. You
have many skills and talents, a great sense of humor and a genuine
love of life that you share on your daily blog that entertains, encourages, and inspires us! And you do have the best staff…where would we be without Clover, Coco, Annabelle, the chickens and ducks, sheep, donkeys, fainting goats, pigs, etc. Much, much better than Martha Stewart!!!!

  48. Remudamom says:

Send some of your staff over to my chicken house so they can give mine lessons.

  49. Kathleen H from Indiana says:

I voted for the “Chicken Lady”, she rules!!!! :snoopy: Will be making the corn casserole, yum. Happy Tuesday to you and your staff.
    Kathleen

  50. Kristen says:

    Happy Thanksgiving Suzanne!!! :duck:

  51. Lish says:

Am I missing something?? Mine shows Brigitte in the lead! Please tell me my page isn’t refreshing!! (=

  52. Margret says:

Love your fluffy staff! But they are probably as helpful as mine….Happy Thanksgiving!

  53. EightPondFarm says:

Looking for a nice chicken smilie to use on the Sam-E website…

I think it is probably to be expected that the Chickens Union would be supporting the Turkey Federation and boycotting the holiday prep. Great menu!! Somehow Thanksgiving snuck up on me this year since we are not having company.

  54. Lynn says:

Not happy with the vote this morning! I read the article about chickens you wrote. I like the comment that they greet every day with enthusiasm. That’s the sort of thing that encourages me, too!

  55. Phyllis Ryan says:

Have your staff read Brigitte’s blog. There is so little content, and so msny VOTE FOR ME videos. Whether you win or not you have the most wonderful blog, sometimes sad, but mostly happy, and some days down right funny. We, your loyal readers will continue long after the vote is counted.

  56. Patty says:

Chicken Lady! I think you need a bumper sticker for your truck that says that! How funny, and yes, they better watch out for you!

  57. Jo says:

Ok, this is serious business now. I just told my husband if he wants to REMAIN married to me, he must VOTE!!!

    :sheepjump:

  58. smilingcow says:

Hey Chicken-lady! That’s funny! Voted for you again today. I love the photo of your helper cat. My chickens are about as helpful as the rest of the staff of cats and dogs – only tastetesters.

    Beth aka oneoldgoat

  59. Leah says:

Boy,I m ust be sllepy,I tried to click on “SEND THEM OVER HERE!” to go vote! :chicken: :chicken: :chicken:

  60. RuthieG/TXLady says:

Yum I love dressing…doesn’t matter whether I have turkey or not …the dressing is what I want…I make old fashioned “southern” cornbread dressing….exactly the way my Momma made it and my daughter makes it exactly the way I make it and her Granny made it….

  61. AshaLatha R.K.Prasad says:

    You have a lovely space….. Very neat & tidy…. Lovely too….. Came here from the networked blogs…. I’m glad I did…..

    Happy Celebrations & Blogging!!!!

    Ash….

  62. Yvonne says:

Your Thanksgiving dinner looks wonderful. Take the comment as a compliment . . . sounds like the person who said that might need some cheese with that whine. Already voted and called my friends to make sure they did also.

    :fairy:

  63. Bonnie Schmidt says:

    Suzanne,
I am using your pie crust recipe for my Thanksgiving apple pies. I forgot to tell you that I won second place with the same combination (YOUR pie crust and my apple pie recipe) at a 4th of July contest this past summer. I got a trophy and everything! Thanks for all that you share. Happy Thanksgiving!

  64. Beth Brown says:

Hi Suzanne – Stupid question here -referrng to the cranberry sauce. Is orange pulp just the inside of the orange chopped? You peel it and then just chop it up?

Beth aka oneoldgoat (who is experiencing a series of senior moments today!)

  65. brenda taylor says:

Just wanted you to knowIvoted for you today. Ireally enjoy your blog and itwas good hearing 52 is still around. Happy THanksgiving

  66. KimL says:

Happy Thanksgiving Suzanne! I’m on my way to vote again – I cannot believe that silly comment! That was good for a laugh! You’ve got the best staff around :sun:

  67. Katia Cristina says:

    I VOTED!!
    HAPPY THANKSGIVING AND HAVE FUN!!

  68. Sharon Gosney says:

    I love your staff…egger to help.lol

  69. debbie says:

Feeling very guilty and a little left out of busy Thanksgiving preparations this year. My kids started running our local “Turkey Trot” in the big city last year and started a new tradition… IHOP for Thanksgiving dinner. Oh, that is so wrong on so many levels.

And I’m working. New job, can’t quite say “no” to the hours, yet. Bummer, Thanksgiving was always my favorite holiday. All of the food of Christmas with none of the gift-giving angst.

I will, I will, I will own a farm of my own some day with the kids gathered around the dining room table for Thanksgiving dinner. And I will be very, very thankful.

  70. brenda harmon says:

I am going to attempt to make homemade stuffing for the first time. I have been making grandmother bread instead of buying bread and no one eats the heels so I have a gallon freezer bag full of heels. I thought I could use that to make stuffing. Can I stuff the bird with the cornbread stuffing? Love your staff. We own a small business and a retired gentleman from our church does our taxes we call him our people. My husband says we’ll have to check with our people about that (he’s referring to our friend from church). He’s our people.

  71. Christy C. says:

Yum, “scalped” corn, as my father used to call it! I voted! Try to put the vote link at the top of your post again….I think it works better that way. Good luck! I love reading you everyday.

  72. Claudia says:

The scalloped corn looks wonderful, I will have to try that!

  73. Amy Cook in WI says:

Ha…sounds like your staff has rebelled just like my staff has…mine is smaller: one husband and one dog. But when you are left alone, well you’re just all alone aren’t you? Except for all of your friends on the blog!

Happy Thanksgiving, Suzanne! I am praying for you to win the contest because your honesty and life are so refreshing. Good luck.

  74. Myrna Mackenzie says:

Just a note regarding the Comments section on the Sam-e blog. The Terms indicate that yes, they do moderate, and it can take up to three days for posts to appear. But, it looks as if they usually post them relatively quickly.

By the way, Suzanne, your post today certainly put me in a Thanksgiving mood!

  75. Nancy in Iowa says:

Good morning, Chicken Lady! You and your “staff” have really picked up a lot of new followers during this contest – great to see it! And anyone who reads your blog once will be hooked, as I was about a year ago. Spending TG with my brand new baby grandson and family. My SIL is doing most of the cooking, but I’m taking a few dishes and one of his requests was scalloped corn. I have an old simple recipe of my grandmother’s, but this time I’m going to use your recipe! It looks scrumptious!

    OK, off to vote.

  76. Ms E says:

I always thought Clover was the boss and YOU were the “staff”!

  77. ElizaRed says:

on my well deserved lunch break having just finished an org chart for our group. I would be happy to complete an org chart for your organization with the names in the appropriate postions and a description of each of the functions of the positions. you would just have to remember to send any changes and updates to me so the the chart would be correct at all times. you would not want any of your staff to still be showing as the lowest on the “totem” pole (or the spool in your barnyard.)
I would imagine that the “keeper of the cookies” would be at or close to the top of the chart. Just let me know and I can take care of this on my next 15 minute break or my 30 minute lunch.
ENJOY! and have a great Thanksgiving holiday with your family….and take a well deserved nap in the afternoon….traditonal at our house!!

  78. Crystal B. says:

What an interesting comment. Your recipes look so good. I will start baking this afternoon.

  79. Sharee says:

Good Morning! I just wanted to say that I have voted…ALWAYS and that I would like to know how often you write for the charleston daily and I swear if you say daily I will go knock my head against the wall for being that retarded that I had to ask an obvious question! I just would love to make sure that I catch all that you write…and you dont post when you write in it at least not that I have seen…course..like I said previously…I could just be reaaaallllyyyy sssslllooooowwwww….. :reindeer:

  80. Susan M says:

I wish my kitchen looked that good when I prepare Thanksgiving dinner!! Thanks for the wonderful ideas and recipes.

  81. Barbee' says:

Jo Jo, I saw your 2 comments on that website, so they are there now. But, I’m having the same problem. I posted yesterday, and it seemed to “take”, but next time I looked it was gone. Today it was still gone, so I have posted it again – same thing. I thought maybe it was too long so I cut out some of it then posted for the third time. They do moderate. I clicked on the link “comment policy” which is below the comment form. It said they do moderate, but it didn’t say anything about length. Someone out there doesn’t like me! :hissyfit:

  82. Mary Olson says:

I have a feeling that your Thanksgiving is truly something to behold (and taste of course). I’m baking bread to bring to my cousins house but the pie I’m bringing will be coming from Costco. Maybe I can try out some of your recipes for Christmas. I better start planning now…

  83. Sandra says:

Thank you for all your Thanksgiving food tips and ideas! We need to continue to spread the word to friends and family regarding the vote.

  84. NorthCountryGirl says:

Good day. The comments on the SAM-E site are really mounting. Out of 37 comments, 28 are for Suzanne, or roughly 75%. This is where the judges will actually see feedback about the contestants.

Votes are just that…votes. But comments are from the audience SAM-E is trying to reach and they speak volumes about the feelings and confidence these people have for that contestant.

Now’s the time to be letting SAM-E know the reason behind all those votes you gave for Suzanne. DON’T FORGET TO LEAVE A COMMENT!!!!!!!

  85. Angela says:

Hey Chicken Lady, oh I mean Suzanne! lol

You have inspired me to actually get out my canner and can my cranberry sauce this year instead of tossing what we don’t eat at Thanksgiving! :shimmy: Hopefully I will get that done today. Just wanted to let you know that I vote for you every day! I sure hope you win! :woof:

    Angela

  86. Brenda S 'Okie in Colorado' says:

Just voted again. I am keeping my fingers and eyes crossed.
My staff (2 mini doxies) have really been a wonderful help to me during this busy week. If I drop something on the floor, they are right there to pick it up. If I need someone to taste test, they are right there on the job. Even keep my toes warm at night. Very loyal staff.

Sigh. Looked at the vote again. I don’t know what else to do!! I’ve written everyone I know! I’ve tweeted. I’ve facebooked. I’ve begged. I can’t stand to see you in third!! This is going to be a painful 12 more days!!! :hissyfit:

  88. Amy says:

I’m confused, how could Bridgette gain such a lead in one day? Esp since she dosen’t have the following you have here.

  89. Amy says:

And how did Lori catch up and pass you, when she was so far behind?
Did your votes get erased somehow?

    • Nancy says:

Maybe they discovered a flaw in the system that I just discovered. If you switch browsers (from firefox to internet explorer for example), you can vote again from the same computer. If you switch computers as well …. that can add up. I’m not a computer person. If I stumbled on this, others have as well.

  90. Lynette says:

    Hello~

Thanks for all of the yummy recipes. My sisters and I can’t be together this year on Thanksgiving, so we are each making your recipes at our own homes. (So we are together, but not together together.)

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, and thanks again for all that you do.

    Lynette

  91. NorthCountryGirl says:

Just think if Suzanne had 13,000+ comments to the SAM-E company telling the judges how you feel about her talents and abilities! ! ! Think of the impression that would make ! ! ! Right now, it’s the comments that count more than the votes.

    Votes: 20% Judges decisions: 80%

  92. Runningtrails says:

Oh Dear!! I sure hope you win, Suzanne!
That Thanksgiving dinner looks scrumptious! We already had our Thanksgiving here in Canada I can have turkey with your cornbread dressing anyway, right? It doesn’t have to be a holiday. If the dressing freezes well we could have it all the time.

That remark about the full time staff is funny! My helpers look just like your’s, unfortunately πŸ™‚

  93. Barbee' says:

Ah, finally! My comment on Sam-e is posted, but I had to leave a comment of complaint. Don’t know what was going on. Now that that is worked out, I will get back to vote watching, or, maybe not – it’s too depressing. How can all of you cook when this excitement is going on. (Don’t bother to answer that, you don’t have time.) OK, I’ll go through my email address book again. Loved both your posts, Suzanne, it’s just that I’m so agitated. :dancingmonster:

  94. tea4too0 says:

I guess I am blind, I can’t find where to comment a Sam e. Help

  96. catslady says:

Well I wrote a post on the blog yesterday and don’t see it anywhere. It doesn’t seem right if they are picking and choosing what gets up there and what stays!!!!!!!!

  97. Estella says:

I don’t have to fix anything but Deviled Eggs. Having thanksgiving at my youngest daughters.

  98. Barbee' says:

Catslady, I had trouble like that, too. See above comments numbers 82 and 94. My complaint was a “Gentle” complaint saying I left a comment yesterday the 23rd, but it still isn’t posted and they are posting 24th ones already, and I wondered what I did wrong. I didn’t want to cause a bad reflection on Suzanne.

  99. Michelle says:

thanksgiving I haven’t started yet … I know, I know. I do have my menu and all groceries purchased. I prefer to wait till morning to cook and maybe Wed night for baking.

I;ve got a dozen guineas you can borrow to help, cause they sure aren’t helping me any. Oh, and then there’s the dozen goats out there … !!!

  100. Amy says:

I also left a comment that is not there now. And I know I didn’t say anything negative. I’ll check again.

  101. Amy says:

mmmm, FYI the right click button on my mouse is working now. I don’t know if that was on purpose.

  102. M.J. says:

I’ve had the same trouble with the comment I posted on SAM-e yesterday–it still has not shown up on their website. I also read the policy statement about a possible delay, so I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt right now. But if it’s not there tomorrow, I’m re-posting.

Like many of your followers, I’m at a loss about what else I can do to help boost the vote.

  103. auntbear says:

I took a quick look at the other front runner blog sites. I expect they want this gig just as much as you.The folks that vote for them evidently are working the “extra vote”technique as detailed on here by many of your supporters.I’m glad all the SAMe contestants have people that really want to help them.We should all be so lucky…but I trust the judges to make the best decision about who should represent SAMe.That being said….I don’t see how you could lose!Namaste.

  104. jason says:

Left a comment on Sam-e! I could have written a thousand words and still not explained fully how much I think of your little blog here! Things are a little hectic here this week (deer season & Thanksgiving) but next week I will see what we can get done (if anything) in regards to a news story. I wish I could say positively that something will come of it! Very hard to compete against people that can afford to give away cash/gift cards.

  105. linda says:

we are also busy cooking the pies tonight your stuffing looks really good have a happy thanksgiving

  106. Donna says:

:chicken: Thanks for sharing your Thanksgiving preparations. How beautiful and cozy. I know you accomplish all this yourself! Staff indeed!

  107. Ulrike says:

I always call you the “Goat Lady” (e.g., “I saw the funniest thing on the Goat Lady’s blog today!”), because I found your website when you were having your Adventures In Milking with Clover. That’s what hooked me and kept me coming back.

  108. Mariah says:

The chicken-lady. With a staff! Gotta love that! It’s hilarious! πŸ™‚ Going now to vote!

  109. Valerie says:

I enjoyed your post so much. The pictures made me drool over my workplace pc. Scrumptious. Co-workers gathered to see what I was looking at. I printed out the corn recipe, I already have everything in the pantry, so that will be on the table this year. The end of your post was hilarious. You are so naturally funny, that’s part of the joy of reading this blog. Thanks Suzanne.

  110. LisaAJB says:

Thanksgiving prep? I remembered to bring your amazing pie crust with my to my in-laws, however I LEFT MY PUMPKIN AT HOME! UGH. So maybe we’ll have pie crust with cinnamon and sugar for Thanksgiving instead.

  111. vicki says:

Suzanne, What I love about your blog is that it appeals to all generations–not just vegetarian yuppies. You promote REAL FOOD, healthy food and recipes with real natural ingredients. Americans in general are NOT strict vegetarians, and although I do love my veggies, I need a little meat too! I also appreciate how you encourage everyone to make things with their hands, to be resourceful, and how there is beauty in the “ordinary”. To try to promote you in the contest I have been “SHARING” different posts with recipes everday (presently those that pertain to a Thanksgiving menu and asking my “facebook friends” to click & vote AND “share” it on their own facebook home page. After Thanksgiving I’ll post Xmas ones til Dec. 7. I think this is a great way to reach others to vote. V.

  112. Senta Sandberg says:

More voting I know it is Thanksgiving and we are all busy but please call all your neighbors get them to vote too. By the way Suszanne my family loves the spicy black bean stew. And my chickens are not helping they only layed 1 egg today???

  113. Julieanna says:
