Holiday Marshmallow Pops

These might be the easiest candies you’ll ever make–not to mention adorable! And so festive! You can make a couple dozen of these marshmallow pops in thirty minutes from start to finish. They’re great to take to holiday parties for school or church, or just to make as a fun project with your kids or grandkids. They’re so cute, even grown-ups want to eat them.

How much you need of anything depends on how many you’re planning to make. Once you decide that, buy as many marshmallows and lollipop sticks as needed. (Depending on the store, you can find the lollipop sticks either in the baking aisle or in the crafts department.) Count on about half a peppermint per pop. It took about eight ounces of candy coating for two dozen pops. I used a mix of white marshmallows and pink strawberry-flavored marshmallows. I had chocolate candy coating onhand, but you could also use vanilla. (FYI, I like CandiQuik.)

How to make Holiday Marshmallow Pops:

lollipop sticks
large marshmallows
candy coating (chocolate or vanilla)
peppermints

Place a sheet of waxed paper down. Poke one lollipop stick into each marshmallow and set aside.
IMG_7693
Crush the peppermints. I like to put them inside a heavy plastic baggie and pound away with my little flower hammer.
IMG_7681
Melt the candy coating and dip each marshmallow in it, covering it about a third to halfway up. Let the excess drip off.
IMG_7700
Using a spoon or just your fingers, scoop up some of the crushed peppermints and, while turning the candy-coated marshmallow, sprinkle the peppermints all around it.
IMG_7702
Place each finished pop on the waxed paper. It will only take a few minutes for the candy to set.
IMG_7703
Transfer the pops to a clean tray. You’re done! How easy was that?!
IMG_7709
Store in a covered container. To tuck individual pops into gift baskets, wrap small pieces of plastic wrap around the tops and tie with ribbon or twine.

It’s all part of a homemade Christmas!

  1. Marla says:

Toooo cute!! Since I like chocolate, I would dip the whole marshmallow in chocolate! Maybe even double dip…Yum!! :happyflower:

  2. Mel Meister says:

That’s a very clever confection! LOL!

    And pretty, too!

    Mel

  3. Victoria Sturdevant says:

I’ve done those and use pretzel sticks instead of lollipop sticks.

  4. Hrist says:

    I like your girly hammer!

  5. Jayme aka The Coop Keeper says:

Love the hammer, love the pops even more. They look so cute all wrapped up with that jute bow!

  6. CindyP says:

These are cute and easy! Those would be really cute hung from the twine on the tree wrapped up for the kids to eat instead of candy canes!

Voted!!! Crazy numbers out there!!!! Keep voting everyday, no matter what…….the vote doesn’t guarantee the winner of the blogger gig — it’s only 20% of the contest!!!

  7. Tracey In Paradise,Pa. says:

:woof: What a great idea!! My daughters and I are gonna have to try these this year!! Yummmmmo!!! Do you ever sleep?
I love Kitten and Little..I have my very own set..Tucky and Wolfie!! My husband rescued them out of a wall at his job. They were about four or five days old and not well. I nursed them every two hours. They are now two very fat and spoiled almost two years old . I was never very fond of cats..lol Now I am over the moon.lol
    Have a great day!!
Granny Trace’ (P.s I am a 43 year old blessed granny)
My hubbie and I have voted!!

  8. KateS says:

Laughing – Tracey – yeah – gotta get that extra year in while you still can! ๐Ÿ˜€

I love those!! a cute kinda :bugeyed: crafty thing I think I could actually do!

  9. wkf says:

Those are great. You could use a graham cracker, too. smores.

  10. KimL says:

Simple and tasty! That’ll will be a good one for the kids to make.

  11. ElizaRed says:

Yummy – there will be a demand for the ingredients at the grocer/craft stores this week! Hmmm….add chopped nuts, coconut…

  12. Diane says:

Great idea!!! These would be good to give out at work. Giant Eagle has these over sized marshmellows. They would be fun to do and package. It would be like getting twice the pop in one.

  13. Mary says:

Those turned out beautifully. I must try that. I have done something similar with the large pretzels, however I like marshmallows better. Thanks for the great idea. The voting has gone rather nuts. People are figuring out the system, I guess. We know you would be best for the job, so we must..VOTE VOTE VOTE.

    • Myrna Mackenzie says:

Regarding figuring out the system, yes, someone on one of the other blogs was telling people with iphones to travel from tower to tower and keep voting over and over. But I have to think (hope) that anyone reading the blogs can easily see that Suzanne is the one with the most real readers. If not, all they have to do is go to Alexa.com, as I mentioned yesterday, type in suzannemcminn.com and see how much traffic she gets here. I love that site. You can see what percent of readers come from different countries, too.

Suzanne, these are so cute and easy and pretty, too. That’s exactly what I need during this season when there aren’t enough hours in the day.

      • Jo says:

        Oh my gosh…are you kidding?

I did take a look at that website and it looks to me that Suzanne’s site does very, very well. And she does consistently well, not just during the time period of this contest.

        Go, Suzanne!! :sheepjump: :happyflower:

  14. Ang. says:

Looks yummy but I like the idea of doing this to pretzel sticks.

And how in the world did that one gal jump 20,000 or so votes in a day????? That seems fishy.

  15. Debnfla3 says:

What a great idea! I think nothing smells as good as walking past the marshmallow aisle in a grocery store….LOL Just love that smell. Rolling them in crushed graham crackers would be good too. I bet kids go wild over this candy.

    Deb

  16. Valerie says:

These look so good. I like CindyP’s idea of tying them to the tree instead of candy canes.
I am really looking forward to what else our Suzanne has planned for her Homemade Christmas.

  17. lisa brawner says:

those look awesome..will have to try them !

  18. Chic says:

What a great idea and there’s lots of variations too! We voted and once the rest of the family out west is up…they will too. :hungry2:

  19. 5kathleen2 says:

Would like a hammer like yours! Cute marshmallow pops, would be great to stir hot chocolate. Voted this morning!!!! :woof:

  20. Jo says:

Oh my gosh….that’s me!! I won!!!! :snoopy:
I’ve never won anything in my life (oh, except for a frozen turkey once).

Thank you! Thank you! What do you need now? I’m sure you need my address but I don’t want to plaster it all over the www.

    Let me know, Suzanne!

    Thank you!! :happyflower: :airkiss:

    p.s. off to vote

  21. debbie says:

These would make great teacher gifts tucked in a basket of evergreens with a mug and some homemade hot chocolate mix, tied with a red bow.

My kids will probably be making these this weekend.

  22. Anke says:

I am so making those, they are adorable and easy. Since my youngest daughter doesn’t like peppermint, I might have to improvise and crush some other candy. Some different flavored candy canes come to mind… Thanks for sharing the recipe!

  23. Helen says:

    How cute… and easy!

I’m with Marla – I might have to double dip in chocolate. At least one.

    ‘Lucy’

  24. KentuckyFarmGirl says:

Those are absolutely adorable!!! My boys will love making these!

  25. Debbie in PA says:

    Congratulations Jo!

This is a really cute idea! I love the peppermint, but you could also use red/green jimmies (for kids that don’t like mint) :snowman:

Love the hammer Suzanne. Bet that makes any chores that you need to do with it that much more fun to do!

  26. Lois Klein says:

I couldn’t find the comment area for the fire, but congratulations, Firewoman. I have an old fireplace insert and recommend not only kindling you can pick up, but Georgia fatwood for emergency starter. A box from LLBean will last forever. Then, if you let the fire burn down into coals and don’t want to liven it up, “bank” it by shoveling ashes over the coals. They’ll be ready for you to liven by pushing aside the ashes whenever. As for kindling, get a 5-gallon bucket, stuff sticks in upright and then store somewhere dry. Kids love working on that. You could either bake on top of the stove with one of those ovens, or who should have a regular wood stove.

  27. lisa brawner says:

I keep coming back and looking at these..so i added them to my sat baking list..they are just so cute

  28. C Aultman says:

ooh those are awesome! definitely on my goodie list this year!

  29. LaDonna Loehrke says:

Yum! I am putting these on my list of goodies to make for Christmas! And to give to others.

  30. JOJO says:

In the years that I have read Suzannes posts, I always learn something from each and every post.
I know we have all said how good she makes us feel about like in general–every day. The other blogs I have visited since this contest started, and I visited them all, just dont have the substance that Suzanne has, maybe a little comedy or joke–but what are the readers really taking away that they can use for self betterment and for that of their families?
Suzanne has become our mentor and our friend, she is family to her readers, we live a lot of happiness through her , her family and her beloved animals.
All of us have been told at one time or another that we can do this or that, Suzanne shows us we can do anything we want to,–and it is alright if it doesnt turn out right the first time, never give in, just try again.
I know we have all read these things before, but I wanted to say it all again.
Thank you Suzanne for being there every day for us.
    We love our “chicken lady”!

  31. Claudia W says:

    #26640 on the voting!
Is the contest for the Ball Blue Book of Canning over? I still want one, I’ll have to order it?
Those Marshmallw Pops look scrumptous! YUM!

    • Suzanne McMinn says:

The winner was posted this morning in an update on yesterday’s post but there will be more BBB giveaways! Soon! And I will be giving away many, many copies over the coming weeks and months. The sponsorship response has been tremendous. There will be many Ball Blue Books going out!

  32. Kris says:

These are precious Suzanne!! I was going to try cakepops this year with the kids for holiday treats but these look much easier and oh so cute.

    Thanks for another fab idea.

  33. Celia says:

Looks like something easy and fun to do with the grandkids!

I just looked on Alexa and compared the other 2 with Suzanne’s and it confirmed what I and so many others already knew…this is the best blog, hands down! We in Tennessee are rooting for you to win, Suzanne!

  34. Miss Becky says:

Suzanne I LOVE these holiday marshmallow pops; you make everything look so easy and pretty. You have managed to put me in a festive mood today, thanks for the nudge! :sun:

  35. brenda harmon says:

Great Idea! I also make fudge which is sooo easy and tastes great it takes 3 min. in the microwave. I don’t usually like fudge but this one is great.
    2 c. semi-sweet choc. chips
    1 c. milk choc. chips
    1 can condensed milk
    dash salt
microwave 1-1/2 min. on high. stir. Microwave another 1-1/2 min. stir and add 1/2 c. nuts and 1-1/2 tsp. vanilla. Pour in 8×8 pan and chill in fridge. Thats it.
Suzanne I have been trying to email you about being a sponsor for the BBB but my computer is retarded and it won’t go through. Any suggestions?

    • Suzanne McMinn says:

Brenda, sponsorship per book is $10 and if you want to just send it via postal service, you can mail to P.O. Box 97, Walton, WV 25286 and include a note with your name and how you want the sponsorship recognized–to your name or anonymously or in honor of someone (such as a grandmother who canned) or if there is a link you want included. Thank you!!!

  36. Euni Moore says:

People, people, people. What is happening to the vote? Three are ahead of our favorite woman. This is just not right. Suzanne is the one for the job. I know that the voting is only 20% of the decision but we REALLY need for Suzanne to be the winner. Tell your friends, neighbors, relatives to vote. Heck, even those whom you really do not care about, let us get the votes up. OK now, three cheers for Suzanne. Rah, rah rah!

  37. Michele says:

These do look super easy, yes coconut would be delicious too! Voted. :snoopy: :snoopy: :snoopy: :snoopy: :snoopy:

  38. M.J. says:

A jump of 20,000 votes in one day? There is some very serious hacking of the system going on–that’s waaaay beyond a bunch of people driving around voting from cell phones. I’m just trusting that the SAM-e folks are observing this process closely.

    • Joy says:

Exactly how do you vote on a cell phone? Do you have to text, (which I don’t) We need to know this to help Suzanne

      • M.J. says:

A note earlier today mentioned people voting from iPhones. It just seems obvious to me that some people are managing to manipulate the voting system in an extremely tech-savvy way that goes far beyond getting one’s own friends and their friends to vote. I do hope integrity is something the SAM-e folks will consider very seriously as they make their selection.

  39. JOJO says:

    :woof:
Hi again everyone–if you are leaving a post today, or just reading this page, please take a moment to go to the Same-e web page and leave a post there for our girl .

  40. Melita says:

I love this Suzanne! It’s perfect for a dessert exchange that I’m going to. I already know what I’m making to exchange with everyone but I wanted to bring something for the kids to enjoy during the exchange. We’re a group of moms with little ones and these will be perfect. I always love checking out your website for things just like this!

  41. NancyL says:

Like the rest of you, I have to believe that the judges are smart enough to see what is going on with the voting. If they are monitoring the actual blogs, they will see that Suzanne is truly the “good mood” giver, sharing real things with us. This thing has gone nuts!!!

I won’t be making candy at this time, but when my new baby grandson is old enough, he can help me!!! Got a few years to go.

  42. Wldflwr008 says:

Oh, Suzannnnnnnnnne, these are just plain fun! I have been looking for something to make and take to the kids in our homeless shelters. So perfect!! Pretty darned cute for neighbors, too. I so love this blog!!

  43. BuckeyeGirl says:

Those are seriously cute Suzanne! I liked the suggestion of different dipping ingredients too!
Shredded coconut to look like snow!
    Red and Green Jimmies!
    Broken up Graham Crackers.
    Crushed nuts.
What about using those chocolate marshmallows and white chocolate?
    Or…
    Sparkly toppings?
We need to post our variations on the Forum!
I love the idea of stirring hot chocolate with these, but I foresee a mess on the table from that! How about making THESE at the same time? Much the same ingredients! https://chickensintheroad.com/blog/2008/12/19/old-stringtown-holiday-gift-guide-2008/

  44. auntbear says:

Yup. These look like a fun to make tree treat.I’m gonna get the neices to help.Thanks.

  45. auntbear says:

  46. TXLady says:

Those are really cute and they look good. I am making cake balls today. I actually have them made, just have to dip them in chocolate …

  47. Cathy J says:

Lisa on Sam-E comments section just posted this:

    “Lisa Thursday, December 03, 2009

Voting Update: Thank you all for sharing your concerned comments! We are very aware of the most recent voting situation and are currently investigating the issue. This will be corrected today. Thanks again!”

  48. catslady says:

I can’t wait to have grandchildren so I can make these with them or for them lol. I like the graham cracker idea too.
    Congrats, Jo.

  49. Betty says:

Love the marshmallow pops!! I always do up a goodie bag for all the little people in the family for Christmas and was trying to think of something new to put in it and these pops are just what I needed!! Thank-you! Have to tell you how much we are enjoying the grandmothers bread recipe and the pepperoni rolls are the biggest hit, have a very fussy grandson, his mother never knows what to send for his school lunches, made him some pepperoni rolls and he loves them!! Thank-you.

  50. Angela says:

    Hey Suzanne!

Those look so easy to do! I might have to do them with the kids. They also remind me of another treat I had at a party. You bake brownies they way you always do, use an ice cream scoop and kind of roll them into a ball. Dip in the chocolate and roll in the peppermint candies like you did. Those are out of this world good! :hungry: You have got to try them! :happyfeet:

I voted! # 27040 :shimmy: :shimmy: :shimmy: :shimmy: :shimmy: :shimmy: :shimmy:

If I had a cell phone I would do my best to figure out how to text but all I have is a pay as you go. You know how it is in West Virginia and our cell phone coverage. There’s no cell phone towers near my house either! I really hope that SAM-e takes that into account with the votes. I still think we (I mean you ~ hehehe) can win! just joking there! ๐Ÿ˜†

Have I mentioned that I just love these little images that I can put on my comments! Wonder if I can put them on my blog? :snoopy: They are just too much fun! :happyfeet: :happyfeet: :shimmy: :shimmy: :happyfeet: :happyfeet:

    Angela

  51. Angela says:

I forgot to add that you can use a candy cane for the stick! Cute!

  52. lishusm says:

Ok, done my voting here at work and on my BB. Still have to vote from home and on hubby’s computer. Added my comment to the sam-e site. It appears they are looking into the spike in votes. I also want to thank whomever posted the link over there for alexa.com where you can see website traffic. Suzanne’s is so much higher than brigittedale.com or goodmoodblogger.com it’s not even funny!!! I’m praying, praying, praying they powers that be at sam-e have the good sense to know a good thing when they have it!! :sun:

    ::getting off soapbox::

  53. Barbee' says:

20,000 jump in a day! I am so glad to read that Lisa at Sam-e is on the trail. Someone (or ones)must have written computer code programs to make that happen. Those California people in Silicone Valley know how to do those. I totally admire their knowledge and abilities (to the point of being jealous), but I wish they would use them for the higher good and not for cheating.

  54. Phyllis says:

O YUM. This would be sooo much fun to make. I think even sprinkles or colored sugar would be fun for even the youngest of children. My 14 yr old granddaughter and I made ‘old time popcorn balls’ last night. So much fun making memories and they are DELICIOUS!!!!

  55. JOJO says:

    :woof:

I just did a batch of these–dipped the entire marshmallow–rolled it in toasted pecan pieces–let it set and dipped it again, I used dark chocolate. OH MY!!!

    JO

  56. Darlene says:

    Congratulations Jo :snoopy:

This SamE contest reminds me of the story of the tortoise and the hare. This has always been one of our favorites.

I can’t help but think we as a community are all winners because we have Suzanne. The great thing about this contest is more and more people are finding Suzanne and her staff which can bring nothing but more enjoyment to their lives. The fluff (unless it’s the fluffy butts) is fun for a time. And that’s the secret…it only lasts for a time.

Glad you’re here Suzanne! Never fading, never fluff (unless it’s the fluffy butts), always teaching, always caring, and sometimes you’re even funny

Thanks for making me happy, thanks for making me laugh, and thanks for teaching me (I and two other families love the laundry soap!)
And if I may be so bold….all your readers feel the same.

  57. mary says:

:sun: They are absolutely adorable!! I think I’kk make some for Maddy’s class! Thanks! :purpleflower:

  58. Jo says:

My mom used to make something similar.

She’d take large marshmallows dip them in melted caramel and then roll them in rice krispies.

Oh yum. I’m drooling. :eating: :hungry:

(I’m glad Lisa from SAM-e is finding out what is going on.)

  59. Jo says:

    Wow.

I just got done reading all the comments posted in Suzanne’s favor over at the SAM-e website.

I don’t just want Suzanne to be the “good mood blogger”….I want her to be President!!! ๐Ÿ˜† We have a good campaign going on over there. :shimmy: :shimmy: :shimmy: :shimmy:

Keep up the good work, fans! :sun: :happyflower: :sun:

  60. pam says:

I just found out today that I have to bring something sweet to school next week! These are perfect!

  61. Jo says:

That Mary contestant is back down in the 5,000’s.

  62. farmershae says:

These are so adorable, I could poke them with a stick! I’ll have to make these, and I’m sure that just like the Caramel Pumpkin Pecan Bread Pudding and the Turkey Sour Cream Enchiladas, they will be fabulous!!!!!

Thank you Suzanne for all that you do for us!!!!!

  63. tracylynne says:

Easy peazy and yummy looking too. I have a suggestion to your FIRE STARTING PROBLEM as we also have a woodstove. I have started saving toilet paper rolls and my dryer lint. I have a small basket on top of the dryer and both items get put in it when you need to start a fire plug the dryer lint in the toilet paper holder and poof you have the perfect fire starter. Paper towel rolls also work well. Both items normally get thrown away anyways. Let me know if it works for you.

  64. trish c says:

I think SamE got just what they wanted. Lots of traffic. However, how many people voting on the other contestants are looking through the site and leaving comments???
I am putting my 3 votes in everyday and I post to facebook everyday.

These pops are great. I was not at all in the holiday mood until I saw these! Definetly going to make them. Thanks, Suzanne

  65. Deborah R says:

Voted again today – 27288 votes.

    Marshmallow pops for everyone!

  66. Estella says:

My grandsons are gonna love these!

  67. Runningtrails says:

THose look like they are really, really sweet and delicious! Good Christmas candy idea!

  68. Linda says:

Suzanne didn’t you do a post on making your own marshmallows? i thought you did but can’t find it. They would be good dipped like this too.

  69. Lynette says:

What a cute idea! Never would have thought of this. You are so creative and I just love learning new things! ๐Ÿ™‚

I am glad to see SamE looked into the voting numbers. I was wondering what happened!

Thanks again for all the hard work you put into this blog. I really enjoy it!

  70. Sandie says:

Love the hammer. Thanks so much for the recipe. I know just the place to use it.

  71. Gen says:

Keep the tweets coming, Suzanne! I posted for you, thank you for the heads-up!

  72. Janet says:

these sound great. I wonder if you could smear a little bit of peanut butter on the marshmallow before dipping them into the chocolate. I love peanut butter and chocolate together.

  73. Beverly Hampton says:

I love thes blog. Thanks Suzanne for all the great ideas. I love all the comments. I don’t what the voting is all about, but I hope you win. You deserve to. Your blog is so helpful and I found the Old Burnt Leather cake reciepe and it is just like my mother use to make. Her reciepe was a lot like the elder lady from the church picnic that you have. It brings back so many great memories and the cake is just fantastic. I have to make it soon. Merry Christmas.

  74. kathy Grove says:

:fairy: I have a marshmellow eating fool of a husband. He is gooing to absolutely love these. Probably eat the whole batch. I may have to hide some in the cookie jar for the grandkids.
Gotta run have to punch down my bread.
    Thanks for the idea!
