Make Kahlua at Home

Kahlua is a simple coffee liqueur and it’s easy to make at home. Pour yourself a glass of homemade coffee liqueur tonight. It’ll be ready in an hour. I’ll tell you how!

How to make Kahlua:

3 cups sugar
3 cups brewed coffee
3 cups vodka
3 teaspoons vanilla extract

In a medium-sized pot, simmer sugar and coffee until the sugar is completely dissolved, about 10-15 minutes. Turn off heat and let cool. Add vodka and vanilla extract; stir well. Using a funnel or a dipper with a pour spout, transfer mixture into clean containers. Refrigerate to store. And that’s it! You’re done!

Make a Quick White Russian: Two parts kahlua to one part milk, pour over chipped ice. You can put some whipped cream on top if you like. (I like!)

Make a Frozen Mudslide: Using about 2/3 cup kahlua, add a couple ounces Bailey’s Irish Cream and an extra dash of vodka. Now plop a scoop of vanilla ice cream into your glass and squeeze a dollop of chocolate syrup on top! (Could also put this combination in the blender.)

You can also put it in your coffee in the morning before you go to work. I’M JUST KIDDING!

Thank you so much I love kahlua its my favorite. I have never made it before.Cant wait to try it.

  2. Kim A. says:

Now that’s my kind of recipe! I might need copious amounts of Kahlua just to make it through to Spring.

BTW, re. your photo of the day: I can’t believe the kids get a day off school for a measly two inches of snow. 😆 Lucky them! How many snow days this year? Is there any snow removal equipment for the roads? Probably not. Well, here we’re not equipped to deal with other weather issues like tornadoes and such, so each geographic area has its problems!

  3. Suzanne McMinn says:

I know, we’re wimpy here, aren’t we? Every time it snows a couple inches, school is closed. I think they’re just not equipped to clean the roads off fast enough here, especially the backroads, so they can’t get the busses out to the kids. So, school’s closed. They’re out of days they’re allowed to add to the end of the school year, so every day they’re off now won’t be made up.

  4. lintys says:

Excellent idea! It looks so easy! I’ve made homemade Irish Cream, your Kahlua looks easier and quicker. I love White Russians!

:snoopy: I made your cornbread yesterday – it was wonderful! I’ll never make it in a regular baking pan again. And the bacon in the cornbread. . . magnifico! :snoopy:

  5. Robin G. says:

I can remember a trip to Disneyworld, with my sister and her two young boys, at that time. She kept wanting to hit the bar at our hotel, to get a White Russian – she loved those or LOVES those…and finally I said, GET ONE..I’ll have my husband watch the boys at the pool and I’ll sit with you at the bar!!!
I also had a friend, who loved Kahlua…she’s up on Boulder now teaching Yoga..wonder if she still drinks those. I would say I liked the Kahlua better than the taste of White Russians. Isn’t it fun, to be able to make your own!

  25. Donna says:

    correction “up AT Boulder, CO”

  26. Pink Energy says:

I just tried the recipe, it came out wonderfully!!! It seems to have more of a coffee taste (obviously) than chocolate, but since I’m addicted to coffee, that works out well for me!! Thanks for the great recipe!!!

  27. Jolyne says:

If you add a TBSP of Glycerin (found in drug stores under emollients – yeah!)to your Kahlua recipe, it will give it that smooth consistency. Enjoy!

  28. cindy smith says:

i have tried this and just love it. i enjoy a bit in my coffee in the morning. i live in the mountains and in the morning it is a little chilly. curled up in my chair on the porch sipping my kahlua coffee thank you

  29. cindy smith says:

  30. cgReno says:

    Suzanne!
We are considering making the Kahlua for Holiday gifts. How long can it be kept in the fridge? Is there a shelf life?
    Carol

  31. Tom Pelom @ HV says:

AH! This is the sort of thing I have been looking for. Looking for my next choice of coffee. Thanks! Your site is great by the way. You should add buttons to the bottom of your posts to digg, stumble, etc your content.- Tom

  32. Carissa says:

Love this recipe, thanks so much! Just wondering, about how much does this recipe make, serving-wise?

  33. cynthia says:

Delish! I’m pleased to say that my Kahlua has become legendary among friends and family; it always makes a welcome holiday gift!! The only difference, is that I make my hooch with brandy instead of vodka. The smoky flavor of the brandy gives it a mysterious little bass note. Mm!

  34. Wendy says:

How long does this keep? And is there a way to store it so that it keeps for awhile?
