My Kitchen Doesn’t Feel Like Home Unless

….there’s a candle burning in the window over the sink.

Unless there’s a jar of jam and maybe two or three or more other jars, unopened, for decoration, on the counter.

Unless there’s a bottle of homemade vanilla.

Unless there’s a big canister of flour, and one of sugar.

Unless there’s a Mason jar of straws. (The kids like them.)

Unless there’s a Lazy Susan next to my cooktop with all my favorite herbs and seasonings.

Unless there’s a vase of in-season something I cut and dragged in from outside.

Unless there’s a wooden cutting board, waiting for fresh fruit or vegetables or bread.

And last but not least, a cat on my table.
img_4336img_4336
I know. That’s disgusting. Make me feel better and tell me there’s a cat on your table, too.

A lot of these things could be put away in the pantry. (I’ve even been known to put Number Nine in there on occasion. When I’m trying to cook and he’s biting my ankles.) But I leave them out, on the counter (except Number Nine, who can’t reach the counter), where I can see them, all the time.

Because they make my kitchen feel like home, like mine.

Now you?

Still no sign of the newsletter. Apparently I’m not getting a copy this month. Is there a alternate link I’m not seeing?

Ah yes, cats are so loveable. They are always where they shouldn’t be and still yet they know that one snuggle or the kneading their paws on your shoulder is all they need do to have a life of social security within the home. A dog is another thing entirely. For me our dog has to work to pay for her vet bills and groceries. Our dog has to buckle down and show me that hunting is its life, and I am the one she loves the most after a hunt. I love our dog and haven’t even seen her yet. She is still in a kennel in Mt. Washington,Kentucky with her mother. A little Brittany puppy with a stong lineage. She is now 20 days old and we get to bring her home on the 29th of July. I am going to light a candle for her tonight I think. :snoopy:

  3. Rita Wendt says:

My cat does lay in a basket on my table. At first I couldn’t stand it but over time……she is beautiful and oh so happy there. Since it is just the two of us we normally eat on TV trays in the family room anyway. Once a week I give the table a scrubbing with disinfectant. The cats not hurting a thing and I so enjoy her. She does not get on the counters where I cook. Enjoy your your pets I sure enjoy mine. :happyflower:

  4. Granny Trace says:

My cats are always on the table and sometimes the counter. I do not like it and really try to keep them off. They were rescued out of a wall from my husbands job when they were few days old. SO they are spoiled. The one really fat one Tucky always honkers down on a quilt on the table. Normally I use the spray bottle and chase him down..But sometimes he just looks to darn cute..
    Hugs Grany Trace :snoopy:

  5. Beth says:

Yes, we have cats on the table. Or anywhere there’s an empty basket or box. Our largest cat likes to find the smallest possible basket/box she can fit her bulk into and curl up and sleep. Our tiniest cat likes to hog my daughters whole bed.

  6. lisa says:

Cats on the table here too and I wouldn’t have it any other way!

  7. Sandy says:

The cats don’t hang out in my kitchen because there are two dogs that hang out, one on either side of the stove…just in case a pork chop comes flying out of the pan in their direction. :snoopy: :woof: :snoopy:

  8. Kathy says:

No cats on the table here since I don’t have any cats. However, you can often find a dog lounging on the patio table on a sunny day! I can’t seem to convince them that the table is not there for their personal use.

  9. Betty says:

Oh yes, our cat loves to sit on our table and look out the window. Lately she’s the only one eatng from the table. We too normally eat in the family room, so it’s not really used for eating. We are having an ant problem. The only way to keep her food away from them and the poison is to have it on the table. She’s sooooo spoiled.

  10. Kathryn says:

    Neat question! Let’s see.

My kitchen doesn’t feel like home unless…

there is coffee in the pot and mugs ready for drop by friends.

there are fresh cookies in the cookie jar.

there are new pics of the Grandgirlies on the fridge.

there are at least a couple of books on the counter to read while waiting for something to finish.

the utensil I need right now is in the dishwasher.

there are flowers on the child’s wardrobe we use for storage.

there is music close to hand and playing.

there is at least a small pile of something or other I need to put away!

  11. Cyndi L. says:

We all know that cats rule the roost. The kitchen table is the throne! I saw an ad in a magazine not to long ago… “Thousands of years ago cats were worshipped as gods… they’ve never forgotten.” So true, so true!

  12. Carol Langille says:

I agree, totally, Suzanne! For me, my kitchen feeling like home means my collection of antique wooden spoons in crocks on the counter….a Mason jar of creamer and an a little blue bowl with sweetener sitting beside the coffee pot, a fridge full of prepped fruits and veggies and a big old black cat sitting and watching, waiting for a treat maybe or for an extra pat on the head. He doesn’t get on the table or the counter….he weighs about 20 lbs and is 13 years old. He just sits and keeps me company while I cook.
Someday I will live in a kitchen large enough to dance with my husband, large enough to have a big old kitchen table and lots of counter space for gallon and half gallon jars to use for cannisters!
Large enough so that we can both cook and the cat won’t get scooted into the living room!
I love your kitchen, Suzanne….no wonder you make such wonderful things!

  13. flutterby says:

I have squirrels on my table – does that count? Fortunately, the table is outside. Just thought I would clear that up.

  14. Diane says:

I have a spoiled cat too. He looks just like your black cat that was in your newsletter. They could be twins!!

Buster the cat pretty much does what he pleases. Although I do not like it when he is on the counters and table. The dinning room table is his favorite place. But we do not eat there so we let him be most of the time.

Summer is his favorite time because he can lay in the open window and look out. Buster is an in door cat. But from time to time I have to remind him of that. He is good at finding ways to get outside without me knowing about it.

I love a country kitchen. Today once I do clean off the kitchen table I want to go and pick some flowers or pretty weeds and put them in a vase and set it there. I am sure Buster will be up there to check them out.

  15. IowaDeb says:

With a galley kitchen and no pantry there are a lot of things that stay out on the counter.I have a garden window over the sink and the cats have claimed the lower shelf.I’ve given them their own greenery(wheatgrass) in the window to nibble on. Occasionally they have had some mishaps jumping out of the window and have landed in my dishwater..lol

  16. susan arnold says:

Yes, cats on the table, and on the counter, and on top of the refrigerator, and on top of the cabinents….anywhere they can get.

And after not having any inside cats for a long time, I am so glad that I have them now!

  17. Staci says:

No cats here, but Chloe the pup is generally underfoot, hoping that I drop something. And the coffeepot must be in place, with some hot coffee and cream ready, for anyplace to feel like home!

  18. monica says:

Cats are ALWAYS where they want to be. They seem like they claim their spot as their own–your house is their house. Little N. has a blanket that he loves to sleep with–he will go to bed with it & the cat will follow. The cat will stay in there getting him snugged in for a few minutes and waits until he is asleep. They just love each other! I can’t imagine life with out cats.

  19. Christine says:

The cat stays off the counters but she’s often on the table. She knows she’s not supposed to be there though and will jump down as soon as she realizes she’s been spotted.

Other than that my counters must look just like yours with only the addition of an egg basket.

  20. LisaAJB says:

Our new kitty gets a spray of water when he tries to climb up on the table, but he loves curling up on the rug whenever we’re doing dishes. It’s very sweet, but sometimes he accidentally get’s stepped on because we don’t notice he’s there (he’s VERY quiet when he wants to be).

  21. Kelly says:

We have a cat that gets on the counter to drink out of the sink. We just hiss at her she gets down. Sometimes I will find puddy prints on the table, etc.

  22. DragonLady says:

I have two large dogs that camp out and DROOL on the kitchen floor when I’m cooking meat along with one cat perched on the kitchen counter, another cat parked on the dining table and another that’s always sprawled out in the middle of the floor directly in my path. I wouldn’t have it any other way!

  23. wvsky says:

Well… looks like I’m going to be the rain cloud here!

Cat’s on the table? My friend had a cat that he called “Old Feces Feet”, and wouldn’t allow him in the house, much less on the table.

Cat’s carry all sorts of diseases and pregnant women are especially aware of this. Cat’s nails are especially nasty. A cat’s saliva alone can kill birds. No matter how much they lick, cat’s are as dirty as dogs, and I’ve never in my life seen anyone allow their dog to lay on a kitchen table. 😮

OK… that’s my sermon for the month!

    • Ms E says:

#24….ummm come to my house and you’ll find a house dog on the table! Albeit she’s a TOTAL inside dog that uses piddle pads and is cleaned w/baby wipes every time she goes potty. She is probably cleaner than many people. It’s not unheard of for her to eat off my plate if something strikes her fancy, LOL!

  24. sc says:

My kitchen doesn’t feel at home unless…

-there is a basket of bananas and avacados on the counter
-a bowl of ripe tomatos begging to be eaten
-wire egg baskets cradling freshly collected eggs next to the sink
-a jar of fresh roasted coffee on the shelf and a full kettle ready
-a loaf of fresh bread on the bread board
-a crock of steaming hot beans next to the stove
-a stack of recipe books, cards and bits of notes in the corner by the door
-and a glass covered tray with fresh baked goodies

    …..really great question!

    Cheers!

  25. Connie says:

My cats are any where they want to be. Counter, table, where ever! One time my Mother in Law told me if her friend would ever see the cat on the table she would never come to my home again. I just told her well…she doesn’t need to come to my house then! Ha! One other funny thing. My Grandmother NEVER allowed her cat on the kitchen counters or table. At least that is what she thought. We would be sitting in the living room and I would see the cat get up there and go all over but when she heard Grandma get up she was down like a shot! I never told on her either! he he he

  26. Senta says:

For our Kitchen it smells like coffee and a cross stiched sign that says, “Give us this day our Daily Bread.” I guess now it should say our Daily Grandmother’s Bread. :happyflower:

  27. meandmyzooo says:

Let’s see, I have seven rescued cats and one rescued dog. My cats have a cat tree that reaches to the ceiling and is the length of my wall, yet as Monica commented, “they are where they want to be”. I’ve come to peace with the fact that my house is clean, my cats are clean and so what if I have to sanitize the couters and table everytime I want to cook. If you come to visit you have to come to peace with that fact as well.

  28. Claudia W. says:

Since I have the dogs, I feed my cats on top of an old armoire. They generally eat, sleep and sit up there. Better view of the goings on in the house.
Purrcy will try to sneak off into the back of the house to be by himself on my bed for a nap.
Just the smell of a freshly made pot of coffee, or dinner in the oven makes it feel like home to me. Oh! Can’t forget about the dirty dishes left for me while I am at work, makes it feel like home as well.

  29. Nancy in Atlanta says:

Thank heavens! And here I’ve been apologizing to friends who visit and see my cat sitting on the table to watch the neighborhood from the window! In my younger days I did not allow my cats to get on the table (at least when I could see them), but this one? She’s a rescued kitty that I adopted, and I’ve let her have the run of the apt. She did learn quickly not to bother me when I’m eating – just patiently waits. And I like the homey sense of having things out where I can see them, use them, etc. But when my beloved sister visits, she puts everything away! :fairy:

  30. becki says:

No cats on the table. They both like the new kitchen island more. It’s more happening.

Curious, though. How do you keep that ceramic water pitcher on the table without a cat knocking it to the floor? My cats knock anything down that isn’t nailed in place.

  31. Ms E says:

There’s a spoiled little house dog (Shih tzu mix) on my table. We set her up there because she begs to be at the center of attention…so no one to blame but ourselves! It’s also close to the window so she can fuss with the outdoor cat that sits on the windowsill and gives her curious looks.

  32. Dawn says:

Apparently the family doesn’t think it feels like home unless there is a pile of stuff on a counter somewhere! But for me–I need a coffee maker, my grandma’s butter dish with a stick of real butter, and a lamp for cozy ambience.

  33. Su says:

Home wouldn’t be home witout a cat or two on the table. :pawprint:

I think your kitchen sounds a lot like mine.

  34. Julie says:

Don’t worry, we’ve had up to 4 on our table at a time. Just too hard to keep them off. 🙂

  35. Gail says:

AHHH! I think I know what is wrong with my kitchen decorating! All of those things you listed that were left out in view are actually
kitchen related items. That’s where I’ve gone wrong. Everything coming into this house somehow gets deposited in the kitchen. I have the “clutter theme” in decorating going on here. Yep, your kitchen is much more pleasing to the senses than mine! Oh yeah, there is a cat that deposits herself wherever she would like to be, and the table is as good a place as any to her!

  36. bonnye zuurbier says:

MY cat has been known to sleep in the frying pan on the stove top.

  37. Jeannie in OKC says:

I confess. Very often, one of our three cats is on the table. At first I fought against it, but now I just accept it as part of life and move on.

Remember the phrase Visa used to use in advertising–“everywhere you want to be?” Well, that’s why one of our cats is named Visa. She’s always in the way.

I love my spoiled cats. They’re part of what makes this house a home.

  38. Heidi says:

I have found cats in the pantry can lead to trouble, although the kittens have been known to sneak in when we aren’t looking and get shut in there! But there is always a cat on our table, I tried to fight it but there are too many of them, I am outnumbered!

  39. wvsky says:

Ok, let’s go down the list: Enjoy! :bugeyed:

Cat-scratch disease, also called bartonellosis, is by far the most common zoonotic disease associated with cats. Approximately 25,000 people are diagnosed every year in the United States.

Salmonellosis, another common bacterial disease, can cause diarrhea, fever, and stomach pain beginning one to three days after infection. Cats and other animals-even those that appear healthy-can carry and pass salmonella bacteria in their stool.

Some feline intestinal parasites, including roundworms and hookworms, can also cause disease in people. Children are particularly at risk due to their higher likelihood of contact with contaminated soil. Visceral larva migrans, a potentially serious disease that can affect the eyes and other organs, results from inadvertent consumption of roundworm eggs (e.g. when soiled fingers are placed in the mouth).

Ringworm is not caused by a worm at all; it is a skin infection caused by a group of fungi. Infected cats most often come from environments housing large numbers of animals. Children are particularly at risk of infection.

The three most common protozoal diseases in cats and humans are cryptosporidiosis, giardiasis, and toxoplasmosis. Cryptosporidiosis and giardiasis can cause diarrhea in both cats and people, who usually become infected by a common source.

Toxoplasmosis is caused by the parasitic protozoan Toxolasma gondii. People with weakened immune systems, or infants whose mothers are infected during pregnancy, can develop severe illness.

Cats can become infected by eating infected rodents, birds, or anything contaminated with feces from another infected cat. An infected cat can shed the parasite in its feces for up to two weeks.

One virus that can be passed from cats to humans is rabies, a viral disease resulting from the bite of an infected animal. Cats are highly susceptible to rabies.

    Enjoy your dinner! :snoopy:

  40. Michele says:

I just have a small chihuahua who is always by my side. My kitchen is done up in apples. I love having my clay bean pot on display, it adds an earthiness to the kitchen and I like plants on my bakers rack and always a nice candle with a pretty tablecloth on my kitchen table. I like having a small bookcase in the kitchen for my cookbooks. Kitchens are fun!!! Suzanne your cat is cute.

  41. Esther says:

When we use to sit at the table to have our meals (now covered with canning supplies etc…), our cat Jinx sat AT the table. Quietly and patiently sitting in the chair with just his head bobbing at table level waiting for his favorites of green peas and shrimp. I’d put a pea in front of him and up would pop his paw up from under to scoop it into his mouth. Shrimp, was a different story, no time to waste with a paw. :hungry:

  42. WV Danes says:

My kitchen doesn’t feel like home unless the table is covered with whatever fruits and vegetables are in season. My wooden cutting board on the counter often has crumbs from my most recent loaf of homemade bread. The sills on the windows above my sink are covered with herb plants, tomatoes ripening and handcream to slather on often since I am getting my hands wet so frequently. My kitty doesn’t lay on the kitchen table, but prefers the diningroom table since it has a more panoramic view. :airkiss:

  43. miss becky says:

that photo of number nine on the table is precious. looks just like my little daiseymae; caught her the other evening walking on the table, jumping over to the counter, across the stove to the window by the sink for a sit-down. my kitchen table currently has mod podge, various rubber stamps, a pile of papers/magazines, a bottle of gesso, my current knitting project, some packets of sunflower seeds, a candle, my camera, and oodles of colored markers. i wouldn’t think of using my table for eating or anything…you know, it’s actual purpose. :help:

  44. JC says:

He’s growing so fast .. I’m assuming Number Nine is a boy.
    I always have a cat on a table … live art !!! 🙂

  45. maryann says:

Nope no cats on the table and counters, they were cured of that habit with a squirt gun a long time ago. Although any bed, computer chair, laptop keyboard, couch is fair game; even if you just got up to refill your coffee cup.

  46. Christy O says:

I have a cat on my table too. I also didn’t get a newsletter this month.

  47. Suzanne McMinn says:

If you didn’t receive the newsletter, please check your spam folder! I’ve had numerous people tell me they found it there. :butterfly:

  48. shannon says:

The cats are always on the table, which is positioned under the big window. When I tell them to get down, they look at me and say, “I’m just going to the window” and than plunk down inside the window sill. I’m on to their trick but don’w have the heart let them know their not as smart as they think they are.

  49. Val says:

The dogs pulled rank on the kitchen; they know that when I’m cooking, its a TREASURE CHEST of goodies that fall to the floor. My cat could most often be found stretched full length along the back of my couch which was in front of the window. She had a good view of everything and the sunshine was a plus. Her second favorite place was on top of the cable box because its warm. I have friends who have NOTHING on their counter tops and wrinkle their noses that mine have such a ‘lived in’ look. Their kitchen looks like something out of a magazine….that no one uses and loves. I much prefer mine (and yours!) with a lived in “I am LOVED” look. Your children will have fond memories of your kitchen until the day they die, not to mention the warm comfy feelings your grandkids are going to have. Sigh…I wish I could come have some coffee in your well loved, lived in, comfy, lovely kitchen. Don’t ever change. Big hugs.

  50. Bev says:

    What makes my kitchen home…

    1) No cats on the table (only because hubby is allergic)
    2) My red Fiesta vase I keep utensils in
    3) My big top drawer full of all my favorite cooking gadgets (mostly Pampered Chef)
    4) Three dogs circling like sharks (because, yes I am that messy)
    5) One son wanting to ad all the ingredients (and spilling at least a third of them all)
    6) My African Violet on the window sill above the sink
    7) At least one candle (lit or sitting)

  51. maddie james says:

Suzanne, just to make you feel a whole lot better? There are TWO cats on my table. I just accept and move on, after all, it is I who live in their space (or so they think…)

  52. Cat says:

The cat is of course on the table! I don’t know why people call it disgusting, anyway, since I happen to eat on plates, not on the table 😉

  53. Suzanne says:

No cats on the table here… too many allergies to have them in the house, but I do have one that rules the garage and lives on my freezer.
My kitchen doesn’t seem right without:
    1. Some sort of power tool on the floor, usually a drill, but often a saw or air compressor.
    2. Piles of mail that needs to be gone through. I pay most of my bills online, so I only open the mail occasionally
    3. Dirty dishes. It doesn’t matter how hard I try, there is always a pile waiting.
    4. Microwave that smells like popcorn (most of the time).
5 My blue pitcher with my favorite cooking utinsils.
    6. And just about anything that really doesn’t belong in a kitchen

  54. Cindy says:

No, there’s no cat on my table—-but there is one on my counter! 🙂 I love, love cats! I have 3; all of them were strays. All of them neutered or spayed. Two stay inside & one stays outside.

  55. Beth Brown says:

😀 That is so funny! I have absolutely no problem with my cat sitting on my table (wouldn’t matter if I did!) but I can remember my mother when I was growing up – she would have an absolute fit if our cat jumped up on the dining room table! A real hissy! Imagine my surprise when I was visiting her recently and her cat jumped up on the table and mom responded by simply moving her over so that we had a place to eat!
    Gotta love it!
    Beth

  56. becki says:

Our daughter has given me chicken pox and the worst case of flu I ever had. She even had her chicken pox shot.

I haven’t caught anything from my cats.

  57. Bev says:

I have a chihuahua that is always in the middle of my coffee table…same thing I suppose.

  58. Annette says:

:snoopy: Everything that you listed are the same things that I love that make my house a home, including my two cats…who love to get on the table, in the bathtub, and have learned to open the doors to my linen closet, as well as the utility room. lol

  59. Jessica says:

Our cat Buddy, who looked alot like number nine when he was little, loves to lay on the table after you have set it…especially if the plates are out. We started throwing an old sheet over the set table the before nice dinner parties so there wouldnt be cat hair everywhere

  60. Kim W says:

I know jsut what you mean. I like to use antique mason/ball jars for my canisters. I have my gr-ma’s aprons hanging on my Hoosier hutch, & I use them. I collect antique & reproduction tins. I keep our family bread (homemade flaxseed bread) wrapped up & out on the counter. I keep my butter (sometimes homemade, sometimes made by local Old Order German Baptists – who live like Amish) in a butter crock on my dry sink.

My kitchen is my favorite room in my house & make it homey & comforatble. :hungry:

    Enjoyed your list.

    Blessings from Ohio… :snoopy:

  61. cgReno says:

Now just askin’ how many of us have ever had any of the maladies described in the WVSKY post? Not sayin’ they dont exist or that you cant catch something……just sayin…..i will keep my cats on the tables when ever they like…..live dangerously or foolishly or both……..and yes, you can say “I told you so”.

  62. Alison says:

well, there are no cats on our tables or counters, but that’s because I don’t let my two 6 yr old boys up their, either. Gotta be fair, can’t favour the cats over the kiddies! ;P

my kitchen wouldn’t be home without:
    1. a table full of junk – mail, school newsletters, kids artwork and miscellaneous abandoned toys
    2. a counter full of dirty dishes. Seriously, the moment they all get washed or put in the diswasher, more appear!
    3. lots of fresh fruits and veggies all over the counter, leaving no space to actually WORK! (my bathtub has been full of freshly harvested kale from my garden since Sunday – I just haven’t had time to process and store it!!)
    4. children running amock and hubby asking a hundred annoying questions 🙂

  63. catslady says:

I’ve had up to 7 cats (now 6) and they go where they want roflmao. I can at least say they are inside cats so they haven’t been eating any critters lol.

  64. pamb says:

Gee, you mean cats DON’T belong on the table?

I swear no one has to eat here who would be worried about diseases.

Kitchen counter–I have 5′ of counter & 2′ belongs to the microwave. drat. My favorite kitchen pretties are the 6 blue glass light covers off an old telephone pole (or electric??). They sit on my window sill above the sink. Window faces west, so sunlight shines thru the thick blue glass and makes me smile.

  65. Lucy says:

My cat is on my table. It just he and I living here and he gets lay anywhere he wants. It’s my choice to keep it clean behind him.

  66. sarah says:

who dosen’t have a cat on the table. if you don’t that’s just wrong.

  67. Maggie says:

First time poster here, I love this blog!
If I did my math correctly I figure the chances of getting bartonellosis is only about .008% based on the 2008 US census bureau population of 304,059,724 people and 25,000 cases of bartonellosis in the US a year. Call me a nerd that likes to “live dangerously and foolishly” too! The truth be told I wish my old kitty (aka PJ) could still hang out on the table but he is to arthritic in the hind legs and hasn’t been able to jump for a couple of years. Poor baby. My other kitty Mrs Bigglesworth pretty much hangs out where ever I am. The top item on her agenda is snuggling. If I’m sitting she is trying to get to my lap. Besides, there usually isn’t much room for her on the table because there is usually a craft or sewing project on it!

  68. Estella says:

I don’t have cats on the table, but they are laying on the chairs under the table.

  69. Connie says:

My family had lived with cats for generations and never had any sickeness from any of them like those listed above. Meow! 😆 Love your blog Suzanne. Keep up the great work and thanks for your time!

  70. sunnid755 says:

My kitchen doesn’t feel like home unless…
There is something cooking, or newly made this day,
A wickless scentsy candle is warming (see here https://www.scentsy.com/cfisher) I love them and they smell so good, I also play with the wax, I know you’re not supposed to)

Music is playing, bird feeders are full and I can see them from the kitchen window.

    Thanks for sharing

  71. cranberry says:

Yep, cats on table – tho I do not condone it and hear some fast scrabbling when they hear me comin’! Cats get fed on bar counter too ’cause doggies would eat kitty food if we didn’t keep it up and i’m not gettin’ a special table to feed the :sheepjump: cats! Isn’t that what bleach and a dishwasher are for? I think bleach gets rid of almost every germ there every was! I keep a spray bottle with 1 part bleach and 9 parts water on hand always…

No cats here we are dog people. We used to have a toy poodle Bridget who never missed a chance of getting up on the table. Chair was left out she was up laying on the table. Now my kitchen always has my boxer Gabby stretched out waiting for a quick snack thrown at her while I cook.

  73. SuzieQ says:

No cats, so no cats on the table but my two dirty (per “wvsky” in earlier comment) dogs are in my bed whenever they want and if they wanted on the table I wouldn’t care….of course, one of them is nearly as big as the table. :snoopy: :woof: :dancingmonster:

  74. Runningtrails-Sheryl says:

No cats here at the moment, but have had them in the past, on the table. A cat would have difficulty finding a spot on my table! lol! It is the “catch-all” for everything we bring into the house and don’t feel like putting away (the usual state.) About once a month I clean it off, sort-of. We usually eat in the livingroom in front of the TV.

I do have a little dog that sits right at our feet when working in the kitchen. He’s the vacuum and prewashes all my pots and dishes. He eats and sleeps in the kitchen too.

  75. Ronman says:

Yes, my cats are on the table and even, (I know, I know) sometimes on the COUNTER! But really, what can you do with a cat but shake your head and scratch its ears?

  76. Darlene says:

No cats on the table for now – we no longer have her. But does a Chihuahua in (not ON) the CLEAN laundry pile count? Allowed? Human, what does “allowed” mean? I understand “no”. No mean roll over on my belly and look appealing when you scold me.

    For the kitchen:
Aloe, Christmas cactus and African violet plants in the window with my Lighthouse sun catcher. Cast Iron on the stove and food storage all over the place.

I don’t think your cat on the table is disgusting – it’s a beautiful image actually! 8)

  79. Donna says:

I love Lazy Susan’s and so did my mother (on the kitchen table) and I love a glass picture of water on the dining room table. I like a stone vase of my kitchen tools, like spatulas, wooden spoons, etc. and my cannisters and I like a large white fruit bowl I have on the kitchen counter…

I have four cats, plus our neighbor’s cat…..(also have three dogs)….Molly and Blossom love to watch us from the kitchen table….. and Cooper and Toby join their sisters on the dining room table……from there they can keep an eye on everything…..
Never thought I would ever allow cats on tables but these last few years, it has become natural to our family of furries….and I love seeing them there……….

Will now put a candle in my kitche window…..!!

Thanks for the pepperoni recipe, will try it…..my husband loves them, just picked up the last few from a local yard sale…..
That is what got me to the web to try and find recipe to make my own….and came upon your site…….
    Thank you….Michele..

Not only is there a cat on my table…now the cat food is on the table (well, 3 cat foods)…due to the fact that we just took possession of a friend’s dog…who loves cat food!

  82. Euni Moore says:

    What is in my kitchen?
    1. The cat, although not on the table, just underfoot. I would have no problem with him on the table although DH would have a stroke.
    2. My stack of cast iron dutch ovens in the chimney corner and collection of all sizes cast iron skillets.
    3. My big old flower pot (with a liner) next to the stove for most used utensils.
    4. Budding Christmas cactus on the table.
    5. Old spice tins lining the window sill.
    6. Candles on the counter.
    7. And my collection of copper pots on the wall.
All these and the presence of DH make my kitchen the heart of our home. :fairy:

I am always battling my cat to keep him off my table but he weigh 16 ibs and is really cute I feel you pain

  84. Leslie Honeycutt says:

Oh yes, there is a cat on my table from time to time also. She likes to look out at the birds and “bark” at them. You can almost see her drooling.

  85. Margie says:

    Hi Suzanne,
No cats on table, but everywhere else. Let me see, Lord Albert in his recline, Arnold the Stray on a furnace vent, Henry the Seventh, on my shoulder, and last but not lest, Lady Herriot on my lap. Lord Albert is the only one that is not a stray. Lady Herriot is named after James Herriot, the vet. I am a widow and love my cats. They keep me company on the coldest night or warmest day.

  86. Robin Helms says:

My kitchen doesn’t feel like home without…
    -My old pottery mixing bowls
    -My Kitchen Aid mixer
    -My tea kettle
    -My rolling pin collection
    -Seasonal kitchen towels

  87. Becky Leach says:

Oh, heck, there’s usually a cat on my table AND one up on the counter. Occasionally, the Russian Blue we rescued sits in the sink (they are fascinated by water).

    I’m not dead, yet. 😉

  88. Rachel says:

My cats are on the table only when there isnt food there… and they know the difference… they are so dand smart. When there is food there we purposely have an extra chair at the table for my little black cat to join us for dinner…. she loves Pasta and waits patiently to be “served” her noodles…..
