Free Book Friday: Favorite Thing in Napa

Aug
25

Napa Valley! Okay, to prove I am completely weird, the most exciting thing in Napa was that one of the wineries gave out magnets. I’m a fridge magnet collector. Have to get a magnet or ten everywhere I go. HAVE. TO. I’m on a mission for magnets.

In other news, the Napa Valley is BEAUTIFUL. You drive into the valley and suddenly there are grapes. Everywhere. Miles and miles of vineyards. And yes, I picked a couple grapes and ate them. You’re not supposed to do that. Shhhh.

And so many beautiful homes and wineries. You drive up, go up to the reception building, plunk down some money and they hand out samples of all their wines. I wanted to live there forever. ๐Ÿ˜‰

You got a magnet fetish? What’s your weird thing you have to do everywhere you go? Leave me a comment and one random comment number will be drawn to receive an autographed book from my contemporary backlist!

I’ll be back on Monday with kitten pics and the winner!!!! School starts Monday!!!!

I get spoons. LOL I don’t know why because they’re not hung up for display or anything. :rotfl:

  2. Fannie M Wiggins says:

I am a magnet freak also. I have them from all over including Hawaii. Alaska, Canada, and a lot of the ststes. When family and friends go on vacation, they all bring me magnets. Also, a lot of my authors send them out. I probably have 8 or 10 from them. Needless to say, you can’t see much of my fridge. Napa is beautiful. I visited there in ’74,’87’ and ’92. I liked visiting the wineries and tasting all that wine. Have a great day and hugs to all.

  3. Fannie M Wiggins says:

As you can see, I flunked spelling 101. That should be states. Oh well, it’s a good thing I don’t claim to be perfect.

  4. Zara says:

Oh, those pictures are gorgeous! I am so jealous lol. I really don’t collect any certain thing on my trips, but I take tons of pictures. My husband collects shot glasses, which is kind of funny since he does not drink.

  5. Angie T says:

I collect shot glasses as well. In fact, all my friends know they better not come home from a trip without one if I don’t already have one from wherever they are going!!
My most exotic came from Roatan Honduras where my best friend spent a week on the charter boat her (then) boyfriend was running. My favorite is from the real Cheers bar in Boston. Unlike Zara’s husband, I do use mine!

  6. Minna says:

If there is a bookstore or second-hand bookstore around I buy dictionaries and cook books if there are any intersting ones. I just can’t help myself…:hyper:

  7. Patricia J says:

When I travel I like to visit any and all visitor centers I can. There, I collect all the different free magazines, brochures, and pamphlets I can to learn about the area and get tips on where to go. I have found some amazing places I would never have known about if I had not stopped for these ads.

  8. Jennifer Y. says:

I have a spoon collection that belonged to my great-grandmother, but I haven’t bought spoons in a long time…now I get cups whereever I go…all kinds and sizes…I use them, don’t display them.

  9. Alyssa says:

I love magnets, too! My fridge is practically covered. I’m going to have to start buying some of those frames that have magnetic backing instead of pictures, so I can scatter magnets throughout the house. LOL!

  10. Maureen says:

School starts for us on Wednesday. I am always collecting brochures wherever we go.

  11. Cheryl S. says:

Pens! I love pens! But magnets are good too. My fridge is covered in them. ๐Ÿ™‚

  12. Estella Kissell says:

    Gorgeous pictures!
I always look for something with a hummingbird on it. Windchimes, magnets, little pieces of statuary,or music boxes. All of my friends and family bring me ‘something’ hummingbird when the go anywhere.

  13. Jean says:

I collect shot glasses from all the states I’ve been to, sometimes more than one. This summer we went to Main and visited a vodka distillery. The tour guide thought I was very strange because we didn’t buy any vodka (not our drink of choice), but I bought a shot glass.

  14. Elizabeth says:

I collect magnets from my vacation spots too but I also collect charms for my charm bracelet. That’s not weird though. I used to collect napkins from every place I went. That’s weird.

  15. Ashley says:

I collect pins (the type you can pin to clothes and such) that give the location I’m visiting. My kids do magnets. ๐Ÿ™‚

  16. catslady says:

I have a huge coffee mug collection but I also have decks of playing cards from all over. If I can’t find the one I can usually find the other. And everything gets used.

  17. TeresaH says:

LOL I collect everything! I have magnets, matches (which are hard to find anymore) and ashtrays from different places, among a ton of other stuff.

  18. Carol says:

    The pictures are beautiful!

I have a small collection of mugs that I have gotten from authors and, of course, I collect books. ๐Ÿ™‚

  19. Susan says:

I don’t travel! I collect books, especially those autographed by the author.

    Great pictures!

  20. Mechele Armstrong says:

    Beautiful pictures!

I’m a magnet freak too. LOL my Dh hates them.

  21. Jeanette Jackson says:

I always look for funny t-shirts or mugs, and I’m always looking for additions to my collection of horror/halloween figures

  22. Teresa says:

I love the pictures, Suzanne! Gorgeous.

  23. Robyn says:

I collect almost anything to do with the place I visit:serviettes, brochures, pens, match books.

  24. Emma says:

Everywhere I go I look for books to buy to add to my huge collection of books; I love to read a lot.

  25. April says:

Ha! I’m the same way about magnets!

  26. Page says:

I don’t travel much but when I go somewhere new I try to soak up the atmosphere, watch the people and listen to conversations. All is new fodder for my books. So I guess I collect impressions of people, places and things.

  27. ruby55 says:

Hi, sorry to be absent for a few days. I had a wee bit of time away from this everlasting heat in my apartment: My sister and brother-in-law visited his parents–his father is quite sick–and took be back to Thistlestone Farm so that I could be there for their second grandchild’s first birthday party yesterday. She’s a sweetie named Emma Hope. The first grandchild, Seth, wasn’t always a sweetie during my stay–a typical male child as grouchy as his grandfather at times.

However, all in all it was a good time and even the ride home was quite pleasant with my mostly very stand-offish niece. She drove very well and I felt completely safe with her–in contrast to some other members of her family. I was even, wonder of wonders, able to have a civil conversation with her and she blushed when I told her that she was a good driver and I had enjoyed the ride. Since it took her a number of tries to pass her driver’s test–as it did me–both of us due to nerves, I was surprised how assured she was when she was driving yesterday.

Well, my foibles for places I visit: cities or small countries I have to have a souvenir spoon or fork (those are found mainly in France);lacking that, I need to get a souvenir booklet or map of monuments. Something like the French wine region requires a brochure or business card (even if I never intend to order any wine). If I am exceptionally taken by the wine: a bottle thereof which I may keep my whole life long. I still have a French red wine dated 1972, I believe. Red wine will last while white wine doesn’t do as well.

  28. ruby55 says:

BTW, did you like the grapes? We were told that the grapes from which you make wine are generally not good eating grapes and therefore the request not to eat them. Could be a trick.

  29. ruby55 says:

Of course I also collect postcards, especially if the place doesn’t have a souvenir booklet. I also stock up on all the visitors’ brochures for each place I visit. Actually, one of our nationally treasures that I pass on the way to my sister’s almost every time I go up there is one I still ๐Ÿ˜ฏ have to visit some time. It’s a famous gallery which started out with pictures by “The Group of Seven” nature artists of Canada and now houses other artists as well. It’s really a must-see for anyone who loves art–and I do.

  30. Suzanne says:

I thought the grapes were okay, maybe not as sweet as grapes you get in the store for eating though!
