My Real Kitchen

Aug

Whenever I post pictures of my house, I always make sure I clean up first. But that is not an honest portrayal of my housekeeping habits, so this is what my house really looks like most of the time. My son came into the kitchen yesterday around two in the afternoon and said, “You could really CLEAN UP AROUND HERE.” Yeah, probably. But why??

Suzanne, The clutter in my house got to me yesterday. Today I’m taking the bulldozer to the rooms that need it. πŸ™‚

  2. Katie says:

That’s why I’ve always wondered. Its not like it would actually stay clean once you did dig out. :wall:

  3. Mary says:

Oh, to hell with clutter. Dorothy Park said after three years the dust doesn’t get worse.

  4. Cheryl S. says:

It still looks better than mine at the best of times. 😳

  5. Estella Kissell says:

Why bother? It takes less than 2 minutes for it to be messed up again.

  6. mary beth says:

    this isn’t that bad. πŸ™‚
You could always suggest that ds do it. πŸ™‚

  7. Sandy Jones says:

I am one of those anal housekeepers. Everyday I get up and straighten up, vacuum, run a dust rag over the large pieces, wipe the bathrooms down. An that is even before I go to work at my regular job. BUT! Since I have discovered writing (and blogs ) I don’t have as much time to clean. This is much more fun.

  8. Jill says:

I like the bulldozer idea. My house could use a bulldozer.

  9. Rene says:

I hate cleaning house but I hate living in a mess. No happy medium at my home. My dh is a neatfreak, but he’s had to grit his teeth since the kids came along.

  10. Michelle says:

You should see my office! Yikes. It makes your kitchen look immaculate.

  11. Cheyenne McCray says:

I only clean every two weeks before the cleaners come. LOL. Actually, I’ve been listening to the Harry Potter CD’s while I clean, so my house has been clean for a week. πŸ˜€

  12. Kelly says:

LOL! Someone tells me that, my first thought is, “What’s stopping you from cleaning up?” :wigglebrow:

  13. Peggy says:

I’m still jealous of your kitchen, even with the mess! Mine has old 60’s cupboards and a wall missing where we ripped out a staircase so we could actually fit a fridge inside the kitchen and not in the livingroom!

  14. Leslie says:

I just went on a tour of all those fabulous pics, Suzanne! Hmmm, I don’t think I’ve ever seen all my counters or floors all at the same time in one sitting! :fryingpan: Hehe. Thanks for sharing the photos! Dibs on the reading porch and the screened in porch!! πŸ˜‰ Heck, I’ll even take the messy kitchen! PS: I remember mail-order Kismet! And my first meet w/Kate Duffy back then… o/` memories o/`

  15. melissa marsh says:

Cleaning house? We’re supposed to clean our house?:lol::lol:

  16. Marcy says:

If I can still see your counter through the few items there…your kitchen isn’t messy. πŸ˜‰

  17. Gina says:

your kitchen reminds me of my bedroom! The same clutter! Hah! Who has time to clean especially when I know if I clean the cats will destroy it again in under an hour.

  18. Mik says:

I’m a clutter-er. Drives my husband nuts. I can clutter up anywhere and everywhere and quite often do. It takes an Act of God to get me to clean it up too. Because when you live with two boys (husband and son) what’s the point?? πŸ˜€

  19. Toni Anderson says:

My house is a tip. Between trying to write/edit, being ill, kids, moulting dogs and having visitors, me and DH have both given up for the week.

    Maybe tomorrow!!

  20. Eve says:

My kitchen counters are clean and my bathroom is clean – anything that has to do with being sanitary – my mother has pernacious anemia so we have to be careful about germs. Now, the kitchen floor on the other hand – she’s not going to eat off of the floor. Dust – just wait until it becomes dust bunnies and then you simply pick it up. I have enough cat fur around to actually make a couple of new cats. And my desk – I know where everything is and in what stack – I think my desk is brown but I’m not sure. I actually cleaned it a few months back and my sister-in-law threatened to take my temperature – I told her “bite me”. I also adhere to the idea that if I wash my car it will fall apart. I have an aunt who used to come over and complain about my housekeeping – until the day I handed her a broom and told her if she didn’t like it she was welcome to do it herself!

I love the movie quotes on the sidebar!

  21. Gladys Paradowski says:

Cleaning house is definitely not one of my favorite activities. I guess I take it by spells.

  22. Alyssa says:

    Bulldozer . . . a great idea!

  23. LoryKC says:

    Thanks for visiting my site!

I too agree with the bulldozer idea!
My husband is quite the neatnik–and I am SO not! Drives him nuts! Ah well–life is too short. I agree with other previous notes–if you can still see your counter, you’re OK!

  24. ruby55 says:

Suzanne, you’re a gal after my own heart. I’ve usually tried to keep things clean–but neat…? I just don’t have enough spots to put everything. A number of years ago I got a handmade fridge magnet: This house is protected by giant dustballs. See, there is a reason for not being too thorough.

But now it’s gotten to the point where I can’t find anything anymore and keep buying 2 copies of books. I have to clean up. That’s not easy with constant fatigue and pain. I won’t tell you how long my dishes haven’t been properly done. And some of the junk really does need to be “bulldozed out”. However, with the amount of stuff I have and the too little energy, it’ll probably take me another couple of years.(sigh) :wall:

  25. ruby55 says:

Oh, yeah! Another plaque my mother had, though someone seems to have absconded with it when we sold my mother’s house (I lived with her) said: This house is clean enough to be healthy dirty enough to be happy.

My one sister-in-law is a clean-freak (Dutch, you know). When you’re at my brother’s and her house, you hardly dare even wash your hands. She comes after you and wipes off the faucets and the sink. She so alienated friends of ours that they vowed never to go there again. She told us she doesn’t plan to do any spring-cleaning because her house is always spring-clean.

  26. Maureen says:

My son knows better than to say anything about cleaining up. If he did he knows that a mop, broom or, heaven forbid, a toilet bowl brush would be placed in his hands.

  27. Darla Dixon says:

That is not too bad…look at it, it wouldn’t take more than 10 minutes to get it tidied up. πŸ™‚ This is just a picture of a real house with real people living in it.

  28. Margery Scott says:

You do know I’d kill for a kitchen that size, mess and all, don’t you?

  29. kacey says:

LOL…my son would NEVER say something like that…because he’d immediately be assigned the job of cleaning it up! Males are sometimes…less than intelligent… in the remarks they make. We must train them young! :fryingpan:

Anyway, your kitchen looks lived in and beautiful. What more do they want??

  30. Carol Burnside says:

I think my comeback would be “Why don’t you do that, Sweetie?”

I hate housework, which I liken to bailing water out of a leaky boat. And I’m with Michelle on the office. Mine’s kind of a wade-thru-the-papers kind of clutter. Now the rest of the house isn’t that bad since the kids have left home.

There’s a silver lining for ya.

  31. Steph T. says:

Is that black granite? That’s what we’re in the process of picking now – either black granite or gray soapstone…

And hey – if you can actually see the counters, you’re in good shape. *g*

  32. Brenda Bradshaw says:

And yet it’s still cleaner than mine. Huh.
