Take Me Home

I miss everything. I want to be on this road. I want to go home. I never want to leave the farm again!!!!

Long day yesterday, two flights, got to the hotel around 4 and by 5 was out the door again. The lovely people from Greater Detroit Romance Writers took me out to dinner then to their meeting. I did a workshop for them then was back at the hotel at 10. Collapsed in the hotel bed. With my new toothpaste because the airport people stole my toothpaste. (Too big. Not allowed. And it was new. I bought some more here, smallest one I could find at the drugstore and it’s probably too big and they’re going to take it away from me today.) By the way, I had no idea so many of you were in the area! This was such a quick trip, I wouldn’t have had a second to meet anyone, but I would have loved to!

I’m headed out the door right now for two more flights and another long day–but at the end of it I will be home!!!

I could stay home all day every day. I’m such a homebody. I miss home. Give me three creeks to drive through on a dirt road in the middle of the beautiful hills any day! There are so many people here! And traffic! And it’s flat!!!!!!!!!!!

Home, I love you!!!

Good morning! I know how you feel. There is just nothing better in the world than coming home. Safe journey!

  2. Myrna Mackenzie says:

Suzanne, it sounds as if you had one hectic day! I hope your flight home isn’t too awful (and that you get to keep your toothpaste).

I had no idea so many people who comment here were from the neighborhood (being from the Chicago area, I think of anyone from Michigan as a neighbor). But I’m glad that your talk was a success and that you’re headed back to the farm where you’ve made such a great home that you hate to leave it. You’ve really turned the farm and this blog into something special.

It takes not having something to realize how much you love it!! But I don’t think I could handle Detroit either, heehee!

Hope your flights go ok and you get to cross your 3 creeks and be home on time!!

My favorite songs are by the late John Denver.Take me Home, Country Roads, and Hey, It’s Good to be back Home Again.
My favorite words are HOME, LOVE, and SUPPER.
Hurry up and get home, girl.Your family and animals are waiting and supper’s on the stove. And there’s a light in the window.

I feel like that sometimes when we travel…especially to big cities. I prefer the country and nature!

I know EXACTLY how you feel. After 11 years, the hustle and bustle of the big city have gotten old. I’d give anything to move back to WV and get myself some chickens and sheep and goats. All I have to do is convince my citified husband….

I haven’t been on a plane since the TSA implemented the ‘liquid / paste/ personal items … ‘ travel rules .. and I must say I am not looking forward to dragging the parents thru the airports any time soon.

Hope you have a safe and uneventful flight and that the green hills are waving you home.

Boy, I hope you get back home fast! Your kids and animals have missed you as much as you have them! And we know 52 misses you. Flying? Bah! Humbug! Nightmare! It’s one of the reasons I’m going to do a 2000 mile roadtrip with my cat when I leave this city for Iowa. Going north to see my sisters, then west to see Diane and my new home. I’d rather take many days on the road than fly anymore.

    Welcome back to old Virginny!!!

  9. Claudia W. says:

All I have to do is drive about 12 miles away every day to work and only for 8 hours…and I long to be home as soon as I pull out of the driveway. I guess this is where our hearts are!

  10. Kate says:

Oh yeah, that scene looks worlds calmer than an airport!

  11. Joanna Wilcox says:

I have to go to an office job away from home everyday but I totally understand, every second at the office, I feel like I’ve been cheated away from my true love.

I’d like for you to write a book which includes your blog entries, you’ve already got the book written, just compile it.

  12. Sandra says:

Ahhh, looks like West Virginia is part of your inherited DNA. I have to look at an elevated tee box on the golf course behind my home and pretend it’s a hill. The manicured lawns and shaped landscaping can’t begin to compare to the ever changing beauty of my beautiful WV mountains. Your pictures and writing are like medicine for my homesick soul.

  13. monica says:

I always thought that the best part of a trip to a metropolitan area is getting home. It is okay for a visit, but it makes me appreciate what we have that much more. If the city slickers could only know how much fun we have and fresh air to breathe–they would want this too! Welcome home is a great name for that photo!

I was just blogging about this today, Suzanne. I can’t believe how much my life changed when I left D.C. years ago. Now I absolutely have to have my water, woods, creatures and peace. And things are finally green. If I ever leave Louisiana it will be for SC or WV. Have a good trip home.

click your heels like Dorothy in Wizard of Oz:: there’s no place like home, there’s no place like home…..

    Hi Suzanne
I’m sorry to be chiming in so late about this, but I fell behind on posts and just read about Honey’s demise. You have my sympathies. I have lost pets before (although not goats or any other farm animals) and know it is never easy.

I have to say, I shed tears for the sweet little boy. I feel a bit of ownership having watched as he met you, was brought to your farm, disbudded (twice to no avail!), fed cookies, escaped, etc. since last year. I’m at a loss…guess that’s silly…

  17. Val says:

I live about 40 miles northwest of Detroit. Out here its not as flat and we have lots of trees but its not nearly what you have at HOME! I just wish that the weather would have been nicer for your visit here. Michigan is beautiful in the summer and the fall but we can have some awfully wicked winters and this last one was one of them. Have a safe trip home and I don’t blame you one bit for missing it.

  18. Leah says:

Hurry home..Coco,Clover and Annabelle will be worried that you are lost, cookie person!

  19. Susan says:

I have always thought the best part of going away is coming home. :fairy:

  20. catslady says:

Maybe if you had had a little time to really relax it would have been a better trip but I do know if I go anywhere I miss my pets and I’m pretty sure they miss me too

  21. Estella says:

    Home is awesome!

  22. Kacey says:

I could so be a home hermit without any trouble!

  23. Heidi533 says:

I don’t miss living in the city at all. I do miss the mountains though. Someday I will be living in Blue Ridge territory. :o)

  24. Lisa says:

for future reference, if you’re staying in a decent hotel they’ll probably give you toothpaste and a toothbrush and whatever other toiletries you’ve lost at the airport or forgotten at home… for free! If it’s a super spendy hotel then maybe not because they tend to charge for EVERYTHING!! Four Seasons in NYC charged me $35 for 3 mini burgers, aka sliders. Total about 1/4 lb of beef for the three!

  25. SuzieQ says:

After being in the work force for so many years, retirement is pure heaven. My home, aka “my little nest”, is all I want or need. It’s heaven to not set an alarm to get up (I’m a night owl and often not to bed til 3 or 4 or 5) and :snoopy: :snoopy: just let the dogs tell me when it’s time to let them out. I’ve never understood people who get cabin fever when snowed in…I’m in my element..Everything I need is here, my dogs and parrot and other critters, my books and music, my crafting and needlework supplies and all of my woods and woodland creatures…WHO COULD ASK FOR MORE??

  26. Katharina says:

Oh yes, Suzanne, I miss you when you are not home. I, too, am a homebody and often don’t leave my home for days at a time. My friends say, “Don’t you get bored?” Bwa-ha-ha, NEVER! There are so many wonderful projects that need me at home. And lacking any project, one can always curl up in a rocker and read a good book. Come home, Suzanne, we need animal pictures, porch pictures, recipes, whatever you care to throw at us.

  27. Kim W says:

Oh I do SO know what you mean! Last weekend I did the booth for The Old Schoolhouse magazine (that I write for) in Cinci at the Midwest Homeschool Convention. It is ALWAYS so much fun to meet readers and ALWAYS so much fun to speak (although I didn’t speak at this particular convention)…but…it’s ALWAYS SO GOOD to get home! I love our rural county (we’ve lived in this county for 14+ years), I love my 170+ yr old house (and all the “character” to goes w/it), I love seeing red-tailed hawks fly over-head, stopping in the middle of the road so a deer can cross and I love seeing the faces of my family there. Busy, crowded Cincinnati doesn’t have those things – neither does Detroit! Blessings from Ohio…

I didn’t see any place to leave a comment on the previous post about Annabelle missing you, so I’m leaving it here. Just wanted to say: Have you ever thought of writing a children’s book about Annabelle? (That’s a rhetorical question, no need to answer, just an idea.)
