The More Things Change….

My 15-year-old is studying the DMV manual. He wants his learner’s permit. BAD. We went out of town a couple weekends ago and he took the manual with him! I said, now that you have learned to study, you could apply it to other subjects. You know, like MATH and SCIENCE and ENGLISH and HISTORY. He said, I don’t think so…….. But his lack of interest in scholastic excellence is not bothering me so much. (He does fine in school.) It’s that my 15-year-old will soon be DRIVING!!!

My 13-year-old is playing football. He tackles people. He made 11 tackles in a game a few weeks ago–a team high for tackles. How can my sweet little hugger-bear be tackling people? And look at him in his uniform with the pads! He looks so BIG…….

Not to mention, my 10-year-old daughter has a BOYFRIEND.

However, the other day, my 13-year-old came outside and found his sister pacing in the yard. He said, what is she doing? I said, she’s thinking about a math problem. He said, what kind of math problem? Two plus two? (He thinks he is so funny.)

YES! The more things change, the more they stay the same. They may act like adults sometimes these days, but they are still children.

Whew.

As one who just sent her 16 yo daughter off to high school in my car, without me, I feel your pain. (How did I get old enough to have a driving teenager, I’d like to know????)

LOL Suz. We older readers have gone thru all the same things you are now. My kids were in band instead of sports. So I had to go to all the games anyway. Then my son got his drivers license and took a lot of pressure off me. I still went to the games but not three hrs early. You will live thru it Suz, and then cry because it means they are growing up. Have a good day and Hugs to all.

What a stud you have there!

I went thru that with four children. I sympathize with you.

What a great picture! I can’t believe how big they all are. 😯

Why is it that people start posting again just when I’m MIA for a while.

Re your football player, don’t you know he’s just bear-hugging now too–only somewhat harder and more ferociously.

I’ve just been hearing a lot about education in the States lately because of the Science sweep by Americans in the Nobel Prizes. I read an article earlier today on iwon.com. I wish we could find a balance between the total disinterest that a lot of North American kids show towards education and the fierce comptetiveness in Asian countries where, I guess, “losing face” with bad marks in school is still shameful for the whole family. :whip:

Growing fast! What a great picture. Tackers can be huggers too. In fact, they often give the best ones!
