Whew

I took TWO naps yesterday! I was tired. Not sure from what since I haven’t been doing anything, LOL. In keeping with that, today I’m off to lunch with Cynthia and Emilie for gossip and martini-tasting. It’s a rough life, but someone has to do it!!!

In other news, my daughter picked out her Halloween costume. She wants to be a witch. Again. She’s been a witch for three years in a row. Should I be worried?

When I was a little girl, I never wanted to be a witch for Halloween. I always wanted to be a princess. What about you?

Uh, yeah. I wanted to be the female super-heroes . . . Wonder Woman, Supergirl, etc. My daughter wants to be a princess this year – a “spider” princess! Being the silly mother that I am, I thought a princess was a princess. I had NO idea princesses were now broken down into sub-categories such as that.

  2. Le Ellis says:

For a while my daughter wanted to grow up, graduate from college and be Elphaba (Wicked’s Wicked Witch of the West). She wanted the green face paint. Just think of it as your daughter only wanting to pretend to be bad. :/ Not sure that helps. My daughter has now gone back to her princess mode.

  3. Mary says:

You are a princess! I always wanted to be a something really scary.

  4. Sandy J says:

I always wanted to be a scarecrow. I think they are so cute! Except hay makes me sneeze!

  5. Kendra says:

I was a vampiress three years in a row.

Now I write vampire books. Hmm…

I’m worried my son’s going for the Grim Reaper 2 years in a row–he’s 6!

  6. TammyC says:

I’m 28 and I still dress up as a witch every year. 😈 I have for the last 10-12 years but I don’t do the green face paint.

  7. Melissa says:

When I was little I always wanted to dress up as a Native American.

Now, I want to dress up as a vampire or a witch.

There’s nothing wrong with witches. No worries. 😈

  8. Peggy says:

A ballerina. But couldn’t think how to keep warm AND show off my costume!

  9. Marcy says:

I liked being a witch for Halloween. Especially wearing the cape and the hat.

  10. Toni Anderson says:

My daughter wants to be a Princess too!!! Or a butterfly. Note to self…sort out Halloween costumes! In the UK you dress up as scary things, over here you dress up as anything. Another weird culture difference

  11. Rene says:

When I was a little girl, I had to be the Wicked Witch of the West for my first Halloween where I got to go trick or treating. I LOVED her. My mom said I treated her like an idol. I’ve been a witch several times, in fact I was the Wicked Witch of the West last year. I rented this gorgeous costume from a theatrical costume company, had a tulle underskirt and everything.

  12. Eve says:

I wanted to be anything glamorous and beautiful.

  13. ValMarie says:

In first grade, I was a unicorn. My mother (a professional seamstress) made me a pink satin jumpsuit and this hood that I velcroed under my chin with a horn on it. It was fantastic.

And, in fifth grade, I was Cleopatra which was another fantastic homemade outfit. I even had a black wig and one of those things with all the dangly beads to drape over my head.

Those are the two Halloween costumes I will always remember as being incredible.

  14. Kelly says:

Don’t forget to filling us in on the gossip! πŸ˜‰

  15. Jill says:

It was my greatest fantasy to be a witch like in Bewitched!

  16. Emma S says:

I never had a choice, really. I was the costume that my mom wanted to make, and usually I couldn’t see or move. I was a camera (that was my 1st trick or treating – I was 3 and stuffed in a box), a duck complete with feathers that made me sneeze, ET, a ladybug, dice (with a friend), a cat, etc.

If it was an overly complicated costume – I was it.

  17. Tori says:

I went as Daisy Mae (from the L’il Abner comics) one year. Would have been a great costume if the weather hadn’t turned really cold forcing me to have to wear my winter coat. πŸ™‚

  18. Estella says:

I was a ghost most of the time—a sheet was a cheap costume.

  19. Christy says:

I always wanted to be (and usually was) a Gypsy.

This year I’m going to be a witch – with a hot pink dress with spider webs on it, a black witches hat with pink marabou around the brim and black shoes with the same pink marabou.

  20. Lis says:

I went as an angel a bunch of years and then a she-devil for a couple 😈 Nice mix huh? lol

  21. Phyllis says:

I loved being a witch. I was a witch several times. I must admit that my mom was outstanding in the area of costumes. I was a geisha girl, robin hood, indian princess, and a witch. Mom made most of my costumes. In college, I was Carmen Miranda, which was my best costume. :bananadance:

  22. Michelle says:

I was Miss Piggy for about two years in a row. It was fun.

  23. Caro says:

i was fortunate enough to have a mother who sewed — as in “professional tailor”-level sewing. We were all sorts of things, but it was always beautiful and glamourous because Mom would buy the glittery remnants from fabric store and go to town. They were the one item that I remember her putting more effort into how it looked than good construction; her thought was that I’d only be wearing it for a night, so as long as it held together for pictures and trick or treating, she was ahead of the game.

The most outstanding costume, though, was the pumpkin my sister decided she wanted to be one year. Mom built a beautifully round, padded velour pumpkin costume that was a great hit during our rounds — except with my sister, who decided at the last minute she’d prefer to wear my fairy costume. I, uh, objected. :fryingpan:

She looks great in the pictures, though not particularly happy.

  24. Amy K. says:

I never had any real aspirations that I can remember. My son, however, is going to be Thomas the Tank Engine for the third year in a row. :yuck:

  25. Danni says:

Have you taken your little witchipoo to see Wicked, the life and times of the Wicked Witch of the West? It’s based on the novel by Gregory Maguire (which I loved but found to be very boring writing style wise). The novel captures the struggle between destiny, inherant evil and human nature, apathy, etc. And the musical score is SO COOL! I’m dying dying dying to see the musical, but it’s no where near close to my home. πŸ™

  26. Danni says:

Oh, and my 5 year old is “Stephanie” from Lazytown this year, my 2 year old is “Piderman baby!” and the little boy next door is an honest to goodness Christmas tree with lights that are battery powered and everything!

I was always really odd things (a bag of jelly beans, etc). This year I wanna be a Geisha again (it’s what I am anytime I’m skinny enough to fit mom’s old kimono) but with Memoirs out in Dec, I think it’s gonna be a bit played out.

  27. ruby55 says:

My family was never much into Halloween. The German custom is to go out with lanterns around Lent or so. Wiches, vampires, demons and the like are definitely out. Halloween is really no holiday there at all, though Nov. 1 is All-Saints Day.

When my uncle worked in Germany after having lived in U.S. and Canada for a while, he had a Halloween Party the year I was there. My most lasting impressions were of me as a Native girl with braids, the horrible taste of gin and the fact that one of the men attending looked a lot like the abandoned baby that was rescued one March 2 from a box outside a Berlin Hospital and which another uncle wanted to adopt. Other than school Halloween parties that was the only one I ever attended. On year my elder brother made French maid costumes for his wife and himself for their Halloween party. He had to try everything at least once: skiing, sewing, knitting a heavy sweater, going up to the top of Toronto’s CN Tower, putting in 80 miles of wiring for a planetarium, etc.

  28. ruby55 says:

And naps. Every day after I go out to look for apartments, I’m so exhausted I have to sleep about 12 hrs the next day. It might have something to do with my cold as well.

  29. TeresaH says:

I think witches have more fun than princess’s do!

  30. Toni Lea Andrews says:

I wanted to scare the crap out of people. And I turned out okay. Sort of.

  31. Jeanette Jackson says:

my 2 cents worth…I have always thought of Halloween as a scary time of year so I always wanted a scary costume…witches, mummies, vampires etc.
I think it’s more fun to be scary

  32. Mary Stella says:

I would need a nap after a lunch with martini tasting!

  33. Ashley says:

I changed my mind every year as to what to be. I was a harlem globetrotter one year (ha!, short white curly hair female trying to be a tall, black, bald basketball player) and morticia from the Addam’s family another. Whee!:blahblah:
