I appropriated an old-fashioned metal laundry tub from the washhouse and turned it into a planter for a big mix of seeds–cherry tomatoes, snapdragons, zinnias, marigolds, cosmos, bachelor’s buttons, teddy bear sunflowers, and more. I shoveled dirt from the garden and carried it to the tub outside the cellar porch for an hour!!! Backbreaking, this damn gardening thing, LOL. But so lovely……especially with cats for company!! The smaller pots are herbs and some flowers.
And look at my three kids!! Working in the garden with cousin Georgia, earning their supper this summer!!

I remember helping my parents and grandparents garden every summer. It was hot but so rewarding to go out and grab tomatoes, peppers and onions for hot sauce or a watermelon for dessert or greenbeans for supper. YUM!

Good idea with that washtub! We bought an old house, and unfortunately have had to spend $$$$$ deleading the outside. Had the yard shaved, put in tons of dirt (4 inches to the top). After 10 years, we did the yearly lead test of the soil, and can’t use it for human consummabes.
As for the washtub, have the cats found a use for it? Mine would!!! (lol)
