A Place to Be Warm

Jan

Several people have asked about Nutmeg and her baby in regard to how they are staying warm. Inside the goat house, there is an old (and pretty rough) dog house. The goats love the dog house. I’ve seen five or six goats come out of it on occasion. They stuff themselves in there like teenagers in a VW Bug. It’s a great place to snuggle up to stay warm. Mommy and Baby are sleeping in there. In this picture, Nutmeg has squeezed her gigantic girth out the hole and Baby is sticking his head out looking around the corner at her to ask if he’s allowed to come, too.

  8. Deb says:

Totally adorable! When we have kids in the winter DH has made a kid can. He took a 55 gallon drum (metal or plastic will work) and put a heat lamp in the lid, cut out a “kid door” and on the cold nights we have new babies he plugs in the lamp, and the kids love to crawl in there and keep warm. The Mom’s can’t get in there, so they won’t get squished by Mom, but they can stay toasty warm with that heat lamp. Course they may only get it the first week or two, but that gives them a good start. 🙂

That little billygoat is so adorable…Have you named him yet?…How about Punkin…or Pepper…he came out as black as pepper..with a few hairs of salt….or how about Janus, since he was born in the Month of January….

Janus had two faces, one looking forward and one looking backward, which symbolised that he had the gift to see both past and future….well, if you remember the birthing video…one head was looking one way…and the new baby head was looking another at one point….LOL.

Oh I’m so happy that they are warm – I worried about that baby all last night as it was below 0 here in Colorado. And I know you guys have snow and it has to be cold. I’m so happy that they have the dog house to keep warm and Rotunda can bond with her baby boy. Can’t wait to see more pics. Thanks for keeping us updated Suzanne.

:snuggle: Back when I first got my original 2 goats, they used a dog house. In fact, they slept in it with one of the dogs. When we first realized she was in the dog house,we were amazed, but she shared that house with the dog until she was too big to get in it any longer.

  39. glenda says:

I thought just the goat house looked snug and warm with all that deep clean bedding. I don’t know anything about keeping goats.
The heat lamp warming thing using the barrel sounds like a super idea.

  40. greensborodailyphoto says:

….. the ubiquitous, multi-purpose WV dog house!

My aunt’s cats live in hers. Of course she nailed a wooden X across the entrance so big dogs can’t get in!

    So cute and practical!

  41. Shelly Messier says:

Look at that sweet face… :sun:

  42. Sheri says:

    He’s so stinking cute! Name?

  43. Lisa P in California says:

    Such a cutie!!

  44. Diane says:

The dog house is a great idea. That’s what I’ll do next spring when I have baby goats to keep snug. For now, I bought a rectangular rubberized water tank and set it on its side facing away from the barn door and toward the hay rack. The hay that is rejected by the goat princesses falls into the tub, providing a cozy bed and I don’t have to grumble about the volume of perfectly good second cutting hay that gets wasted.

  45. Darlene in North Ga says:

lol Even animal moms can’t go to the bathroom unattended by young’uns.
