At the Ready

I was just praising Beulah Petunia for her patience, yet I think today she’s taking it a bit far! She’s been hanging out by her milk stand all day. She has plenty of grass right around there to eat, so there’s really no need for her to take off to the hinterlands, and I do like having her stay closer to the house during the day, but it has been surprising after her wanderlust of the past few days. Maybe she feels as if she’s explored her new Beulah Petunia Land all she needs to. Or maybe she’s just a pig and thinks if she stands there long enough, I’ll come feed her something extra. I feed her in the mornings, then again in the evenings. I’ve been resisting the urge to bring her a midday snack as milk cows train too easily and she will expect it from now on!

I love having a calf, by the way. A calf is such a milker helper. Sometimes Glory Bee even nurses her while I’m milking her, too! Which is strange, but cute.

And don’t worry if you don’t see Glory Bee in a picture with BP. Glory Bee is….

….right there.

(I have to run out there and check if I don’t see her because I worry!)

I’d kill to spend a week on your farm and see how you run things, I think it was be neat to wake to all those animals and run around taking care of them. You’re very lucky!!! I love the moo’s!!!

Well I’m sure she’s tired out after these few days of investigating every piece of her new home. Her back is probably tired…imagine hauling those teats around!

The chickens look like they’re enjoying the new neighbors, too!

  4. B. Ruth says:

Why don’t you get all those folks that will be attending you big celebration to share with you a barn raising….I think back in the back of that area behind BP’s milk stand would be the perfect place….
    Sorry I couldn’t be there…
and isn’t it amazing how the animals can hide in plain view…

  6. jan~n~tn says:

BP might be saying: more milk, please take more milk. Love the camouflage shot. Almost missed her.

  7. Nancy in Iowa says:

I think BP has come to love hanging out with you, Suzanne!!! Not to mention the fact that she loves the relief of having you take some of the milk, as jan-n-tn said!!

  8. CATRAY44 says:

I second the barn raising idea!

  9. CATRAY44 says:

Suzanne, talk with an accountant… Friends of mine needed a new pole barn but did not think they could afford it. Their accountant told them they could not afford not to build one… there is a soon to run out tax exemption with lets people claim half the costs of an outbuilding (runs out after this year.) Check it out, it might work for you guys!

  10. Jo says:

I think you should open a work-bed-n-breakfast, Suzanne. Just for one or two people. They could come work on your farm, and pay to stay there too! :shimmy:

  11. Charlene says:

I know nuthin’ about cows and udder stuff (snort), but BP looks like she is about to bust!

  12. Theresa Johnson says:

I adore your cows! BP is just as sweet and adorable as Glory Bee! What wonderful ladies!!!

  13. Bev says:

Just askin… are you stripping her out each time you milk her, and is she milked twice a day? Her udder is huge. :moo:
