Bear Cubs

All my bear cubs are home for Christmas! I set Weston, the cat whisperer, to work with Squiggles, one of my outdoor “barn” cats. I put three all-outdoor cats in the barn after moving here–Squiggles, Wiggles, and Diego. I feed them in the hay loft and they can snuggle in the hay. It gives them a safe house from the dogs, and Wiggles and Diego settled right in. Squiggles disappeared the first week. I thought he was gone forever, then he showed up on the back porch two mornings ago. I brought him in the house. It was still dark, and I thought I’d put him in the cat carrier and take him back to the hay loft when it was light. He ran straight under the couch and stayed there for TWO DAYS. I couldn’t get him out. At least, not without serious physical damage. To me. Yesterday, I had Weston get him out, and he and Morgan took him to the barn.

Morgan and I have decided we don’t like having the goats and sheep in the field directly in front of the barn. It means you are attacked by goats and sheep whenever you’re trying to do something at the barn. It’s like being swarmed by bees.

And leading a parade wherever you go.

They took a shortcut over the gate. Too much trouble opening a gate with seven goats and four sheep hanging on it by the time you get the chain off. I promised Morgan they were only staying in this field for the winter!

Meanwhile–

Ross arrived in the middle of the night last night–in his new pickup!

This is going to be a wonderful Christmas for you all together on the new (only yours) farm.

I would be moving those animals too! It is the little daily irritations that get you down.

  2. Sheila Z says:

You need a buffer zone so the critters can’t get to the barn door before you do. Or a barn door on the other side that is a humans only entrance and exit.

It’s nice to see that your goats do that too – and that mine are not just overly “clingy”…(ok, well maybe they are :)
Glad you’ve got all your kiddos home for Christmas and hope you have a very blessed time with them. (Can’t wait for mine to get home too.) Merry Christmas!

  4. Flowerpower says:

Never let it be said that animals aren’t interested in everything you do especially if they think there might be cookies or some feed involved. Glad all your kiddos are back home safe and sound and Mama Bear can fuss and pet and have a marvelous Christmas! :happyflower:

A brand new truck for Ross, I like it!!! Ross must have been a really good boy this year.Santa has been really good to your family. My wish for you is to have a Merry Christmas and a Healthy and Prosperous New Year.
PS “don’t buy no ugly jersey bull” (ugly in personality)

  8. shirley T says:

By the way, I think that moving to an accessible farm has jinxed all snow storms from coming in. That is fine with me because we had enough snow last winter to last through this winter. We usually get the same amount of snow that you get.

  9. Jersey Lady says:

Isn’t it wonderful to have your kids home :) Enjoy!

  10. Jersey Lady says:

Merry Christmas, Suzanne and family, I’m very glad to have run across your website. You are living your dream and I admire you for that.

  15. bonita says:

Suzanne, so glad all your cubs are home for Christmas. And such helpful cubs, too. Love the ground clearance on the truck, extended cab, dynomite shocks—a truck for hauling a**! Maybe you can borrow it when you need to! Betcha Squiggles has plans to move to the Big House, perhaps he’s allergic to hay. Morgan’s just a marvel. So happy for you and yours at YOUR farm this holiday.

  16. AnnieB says:

Merry Christmas, Suzanne! What a great gift – to have your family all around you! Nothing is better than that.

Love that first photo – “Whatcha doin??? Whereya goin??? It there food in that box??? Can I come along, can I huh??? Pleeeeeze give me the cookies!!!!”

  17. NancyL says:

You truly are blessed! The kids look so natural in that setting – even Ross’ new truck! I love Weston’s hat, and Lady Morgan has grown up to be a beautiful young woman. I hope to be back East this time next year when I can have a Christmas with my daughter, grandson, and the rest of the family!!! Have a wonderful time!

  18. joykenn says:

AnnieB I think you caught exactly what was going on with the animals–is it food, it is for me??? How about some petting??? Where ya going in such a hurry, look at ME!

  19. caprilis says:

Methinks I would never tire of leading a parade of goats, sheep, and chickens… but I guess I could be wrong.
