Do We Call the Babies Dickens or Chucks?

To celebrate the release of my book, I’m running some “Memory Lane” posts from my years at Stringtown Rising Farm. I’m choosing some of my personal favorite funny animal stories–if you’ve been around a while, you may remember them, and if you’re new, you may have missed them. I never had a lot of success with ducks at Stringtown Rising. We were on the river, and the ducks had a habit of running off on me. At the time I wrote this story, I was down to one lonely duck. I kept her in the chicken yard, to keep her from running off after the others, and well, you’ll see how that turned out….

My duck, she is so confused. She’s sitting on a nest of chicken eggs and a golf ball. AND NO WONDER SHE IS SO BEWILDERED. LOOK AT THAT!

Cover the children’s eyes!!

Cover your own eyes!!

It’s so unnatural.

And disturbing!

I can’t believe you’re still looking!!!! YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED!
