Christmas Eve with Company

Dec

We had family and friends over for a little Christmas Eve buffet. Madoka is visiting here from Japan. She’s engaged to 52’s son, who met her when he was in the Marines.

She couldn’t wait to feed cookies to the goats. She also had never seen a wood stove before. She wanted to open the door to look inside and everything.

She’s tiny and adorable and speaks perfect English.

Of course, you know that–

–everyone had to–

–make a twig star to put on the tree.

Then I whipped out some homemade Monterey Jack, Pepper Jack, and Cheddar so we could have a little cheese-tasting.

I’ll have a more detailed report on the cheese results another day, but everyone was just impressed that I had made the cheese. (I wasn’t as impressed with it, but it was okay! More on that later.)

Dookie was feeling particularly festive.

Or something.

Merry Christmas Eve!

I got partial haircuts (just their faces and feet) for Christmas, and they also got a bath. Just a suggestion.

HAVE A WONDERFUL CHRISTMAS AND ENJOY YOUR CHILDREN BEING TOGETHER. IT WON’T BE LONG AND THEY WILL BE GONE.

Wish I could be there! I’d love to feed cookies to the critters and taste some homemade cheese – I don’t think I’ve ever had any.

A very Merry Christmas to you all!

My lordy! If you didn’t know there was a dog in there somewhere…

At least you are an equal opportunity torturer – making everyone craft! 🙂

  12. Cinderbama says:

It appears in the first photo that Madoka is definitly as interesting to the critters as they are to her. Coco’s expression is priceless. But that last photo of Dookie looks like something you would expect to see the morning after New Year’s Eve! ROTFL!!!!!
    Merry Christmas from Alabama everybody!

  13. B. Ruth says:

My farm Shid-tzu got a trim around the face and undersides (keeps him from peeing on his hair, and stops the odor) ewww!..Pre Christmas cut..He freezes with a complete cut in the winter…I try to avoid mats at all costs…because they seem to hurt him so, plus they can cause skin disease under them and harbour fleas, etc….so we just take the sissors to him. Snip, snip here and a snip, snip there and he’s done..He loves to go outside and find the briars…so it helps not to have that extra hair in those places…Then when the snow stops and it warms up some we take him to the groomers…for his mid-winter cut..he is always so happy with his new do he gets very prissy…
Dookie looks like he had one to many nips of the spirit…so funny!

  14. Lori Skoog says:

Give Dookie a Merry Christmas present…he needs haircut and a winter jacket…don’t ya think?

  15. Sheila says:

Merry christmas suzanne , may you and your family have a wonderfully blessed christmas and a blessed new year 🙂 , :reindeer: May god bless you in many ways :).

  16. Jane says:

I was doing a tour of mum’s xmas decorations yesterday (on Skype as she is in England), and she had a twig star!! I was all “OMG!! You have a twig star, just like my favorite blogger!” So, that’s 2 people I know who have twig stars! Actually, my mother decorates much like you.. she likes to bring the outdoors in, and it looks gorgeous. I told her I will visit next year, and we’re going to make your popcorn/cranberry/orange slice garlands. Merry Christmas!

  17. Diane says:

    That cheese looks great!

    Dookie looks, well, highly intoxicated.

Thank you for sharing your farm with us! Your blog makes me laugh so hard I had to stop checking it at work.

  18. Sandi says:

Give that poor Dookie a shave! Merry Christmas!!

  19. Gen-IL Homesteader says:

OH MY GOODNESS!! That’s dog’s picture is absolutely hilarious!!!1 😆 Thank you for sharing!!! God bless and Merry Christmas to your family!

  20. DarleneS says:

Dookie needs a trim really bad.

  21. Jamie says:

I totally agree. Dookie needs a trim badly. This could very easily be a cruelty case. Matts hurt, can infect the skin, and cause servire health issues. PLEASE get this poor dog to a groomer before someone turns it over to your local Animal COntrol Officer.

  22. Darlene in North Ga says:

Wow and I thought people liked to tell us how to raise our kids! :bugeyed:

Seems everyone forgets that Dookie is an outside, FARM dog, not a lap pet who lives indoors. If Suzanne trimmed him now, he’d be very cold. All that hair is protecting him from the cold and snow. And I guarantee you, there’s no fleas growing on him right now!

  23. Ramona says:

I don’t know what to say about Dookie…..oh my gawd….

  24. Eve Davis says:

I think he got an early start to the New Years Eve party, poor thing, does he remmebr at all what he did the night before or did he black out !

  25. Jamie says:

I am not telling anyone how to raise their kids. But I am saying thats not the right way to take care of a long haired dog. Fleas are not the issue here. Its the matts. They are very painful. I am the Animal Control in Pleasants Co. WV. And this is considered cruelty to animals. I was asking to please get him groomed. Shid-tzu are not outside dogs. They are house dogs…
