Chunky-Monkey Jewelry

Morgan came downstairs dressed for school yesterday wearing this bracelet I gave her as “play jewelry” when she was little. It’s from what I refer to as my “chunky-monkey” collection from the 1980s. When I wore it in all serious and misguided style. Though I’m not sure what aspect of style in the 1980s was not seriously misguided in all its giant tackiness. I was somewhat baffled by Morgan’s desire to wear it. She said, “I don’t want to look like everybody else. Everybody else is boring.” Maybe next I can find her some shoulder pads….

I imagine she’s anything but boring! Looks cute on her, but I too found the 80’s style misguided and tacky!

    Hi Suzanne,
My daughter and I make one of a kind jewelry I think Morgan would like. Other shops on Etsy also sell ooak jewelry!

and show her how to get big hair (just in the front!) 😆 😆 BUT, it was the easiest style I ever had (natural curly hair and big go together!)

  5. Snapper says:

Ha! I found myself at K Mart last night with a 10 year old who HAD to have jelly bracelets.

80s style is back! It doesn’t seem as tacky as it was in the actual 80s though.

    good for her!

  9. Sarah says:

You need to show her the lost art of “big bangs”, THAT is not boring! That is NUTTY! I can’t believe how much hairspray I used to wear! Now I’m not even sure I own any hairspray!

  10. Carol says:

Don’t you just love it when your daughter doesn’t want to look like everyone else?

  11. Angela P says:

:happyflower: Morgan is so beautiful she could just about wear anything, please none of those clothes that reveal “cracks and crevices”. Im so grateful to hear she wants to be herslef and not like others. Way to go Morgan.

  12. NorthCountryGirl says:

Morgan, you rock!! You go girl and be yourself! I admire you for your being yourself when everyone else follows the crowd. We need more people like her! Good job, MOM!

  13. Mary says:

OH, Now all the girls are gonna want one of those! Very Striking.

  14. Sarah says:

On NO. NOT the shoulder pads! Anything else but those!

  15. Tracy Jones (aka fullpantry) says:

Ahhhh… the 80″s….my glory days!!! Yes, we were incredibly TACKY, but have you looked around at today’s fashions? Still PLENTY of tacky to go around!!

Good for her for wanting to be an individual and not being afraid to wear whatever she wants! Shows she has confidence!

  16. Barbee' says:

Oh, it’s not so bad. When you are young you look good in everything. (sigh)

  17. Carol, too says:

Shoulder pads, huge buttons and belts 4″ wide. I graduated in 1980 and made plenty of bad fashion decisions in the next ten years but I was young and wild and free! I also made plenty of bad decisions that had nothing to do with fashion.

  18. Suzy says:

I recently read an article on the internet that stated that shoulder pads were coming back! Yuck.

  19. cgReno says:

Morgan with lip gloss and a funky bracelet! Farm Girl Fashionista! Very cute

  20. nikki says:

Walk into a forever 21 store and you’ll see 80s galore and SHOULDER PADS! haha. i just went to an 80s themed birthday party a few weeks ago! I had a blast getting 80s bangs!

  21. Conny says:

Yessss! Send in the shoulder pads!! The ’80s were bad the first time. Hee, hee.

  22. Estella says:

I love the way she thinks!

  23. princessvanessa says:

Saddle shoes, the two-tone brown ones….ore even the suede brown ones with the little “kilt” on top of the shoe laces. Oh yes, that would be swimming against the tide.
