A Hands-On Experience
in the
West Virginia Mountains

September 13th-15th
at
Camp Sheppard, located in
Roane County, West Virginia.

2012 Party on the Farm follows
on September 16th at
Sassafras Farm.

The retreat isn’t until September, but we’re filling up fast. Even with an increased attendee limit from last year, we only have three spots left and we can’t add more. (There will be a waiting list.) Workshops this year include cheesemaking, preserving, soapmaking, breadbaking, candlemaking, natural skin care, spinning, felting and fulling, quilting, container gardening, mushroom log inoculating, apron making, dulcimer playing, painting, goat milking/husbandry, and how-to for power tools.

Evenings will be “freestyle” with craft-sharing time and some very special entertainment. West Virginia dulcimer player and maker Jim Good will entertain us with his music on Friday evening (September 14) and Granny Sue, a real live old-fashioned folk storyteller will regale us with her tales on Saturday night (September 15).

Don’t miss it! Get all the info and details: Your adventure starts here!

  1. Old WV Broad says:

Thanks so much Suzanne, for the update. It is fantastic to think that there are 72 of us already signed up!

I smile thinking about those coming with good friends, those making new friends, those coming with mothers, sisters, aunts, cousins, daughters, grandaughters.

I smile thinking about meeting the cast of characters, 2 legged and 4 legged.

I smile thinking about how much I will learn, how many incredible folks I will get to meet.

I smile thinking about hearing the dulcimer, listening to Granny’s oral histories, looking at the poster that Kelly has drawn and shared for us, and watching the mini demostrations that will pop up.

I smile knowing that when I meet you, you probably won’t be 6’9″, have 6 legs, 12 hands and 3 brains!

    I smile.

    Be well,

    Billie

  2. STH says:

Sigh. I would really like to go, but I’m currently unemployed and planning on going back to school this summer. And I live on the other side of the country. Maybe next year.

  3. mds9 says:

If you put a camcorder on a tripod, I would buy a copy.

  4. Claudia W says:

I so wish I could come and join in! I will be there in spirit though.

  5. Britishtea says:

I’m out in the wild, wild west. Ditto mds9’s comment about videoing the classes and demonstrations. Looks like you’ve sold two already. (smile)

  6. TeaCup says:

Do the “taken” spots include people who’ve made the deposit and not paid the balance? Or is that just paid in full folk?

    • Suzanne McMinn says:

TeaCup, spots filled includes people who have registered and paid a deposit. (Once you register and pay the deposit, we hold your space!) About 2/3 of the registered attendees are paid in full. (Many people just go ahead and pay in full when they sign up.)

  7. TeaCup says:

    Thanks Suzanne!

  8. JeannieB says:

I would love to be there, but can’t right now. Hubby is still on chemo and fighting his cancer. Will be there is spirit!!
