Does this look like a jack o’lantern to you? Where is the face? The eyes, the mouth, the triangle nose? IT’S NOT ANYWHERE BECAUSE THE CHICKENS ATE THE WHOLE THING. What kind of jack o’lantern is this? But wow, can they clean a pumpkin good.

I think somebody missed a meeting….

  1. Nancy in Iowa says:

Now, that’s just the scariest jack o’ lantern I have ever seen!!!

  2. Nona says:

:sun: I am amazed at how clean that pumpkin is!
I am not sure about them missing a feeding maybe they just wanted a new food for a day!

  3. Lauren L says:

I love it. You think you rid yourself of a chewing problem when you get chickens. Not. I left a styrofoam cooler in the backyard once and they ate a big chunk out of the lid before I caught them. Now I don’t just leave things lying around the backyard. Mostly.

  4. whaledancer says:

Now there’s a horror story: monster chicken ate my face right off! Aaaaaaagh!

  5. Liesl says:

ROFTML! Those chickens are keeping you on your toes!

  6. tipsila says:

A few years ago, my mom had carved pumpkin on her porch and a squirrel chewed a big hole where its face had been. So, she stretched some of that Halloween spider webbing across the hole and hung a big, plastic spider in the web. It looked really neat with the candle lit. The trick-or-treaters loved it.

  7. judydee says:

Looks like it would make an excellent planter. Stick a potted mum down in there and you’d have a centerpiece for the Thanksgiving table! Decorating by Chicken!

  8. Drucillajoy says:

I need chickens…there’d be lot’s for them to eat here for a long time…my compost runneth over!

  9. Jo says:

Oh wow. I bought pumpkins for my son yesterday and now I’m afraid to set them outside!!! (I have chickens too :chicken: )

  10. texwisgirl says:

You must have the healthiest chickens around! And SO helpful!

  11. heidiannie says:

I like it! Stick a big pillar candle in there and let the light shine forth.

  12. Cheryl says:

They were just preparing it for you! Now you just have to turn it around and carve it! Though you might need to put a hat on the back to cover that hole when your done! Or an axe lol!

Btw pumpkin seeds are a great natural dewormer for chickens!

  13. Gayle says:

My chickens are afraid of pumpkins so I don’t have to worry about them doing that! I put one in the run last year and they ran from it! 😀 That’s one cleaned out pumpkin! 😆

  14. Laree says:

I see BRIGHT orange yolks in your immediate future.

  15. Tina says:

Boy those chickens did a number on your pumpkin! I like Tipsila’s idea for decorating it with a spider web and candle; that sounds cute! Now that they’ve cleaned it out, maybe they’ll start laying eggs in there!!

  16. pattyb says:

Oh my! I don’t think I have laughed this much in a long while. Just something about that picture and your comments really cracked me up!!!! Thanks Suzanne!

I agree with commenter one, Nancy, that is a Scary(!) looking maw! I would walk around far from it. If you lose anyone, check down in that hole. Kittens beware! Then, again, I guess the chickens would rescue you. Chickens must be very brave to create that. The mood is dark… Halloween approaches.

  18. marymac says:

I really like it. It looks scary, and like a natural type of scary. Kind of like the headless horseman, this is the faceless jack o lantern

  19. Ramona says:

That’s what our watermelons have been looking like.

  20. Jessica says:

Wow they sure cleaned that pumpkin out good. We don’t have chickens, but we have deer and elk that will nibble on our pumpkins. They don’t seem to *love* them like your chickens do!

  21. Merlin says:

Can I borrow your chickens to clean out my future pumpkin before I carve it? 😆 I like one commentor’s idea of turning the cleaned out pumpkin around and carve it. I even like the other commentor’s idea of putting potted mums in there as a centerpiece for the table! I await to see what you do with the cleaned out pumpkin! :shimmy:

  22. Ruth says:

I am thinking you are going to have pumpkins from poop springing up all over next year. Maybe they can poop in the garden for a few days?

  23. Cheryl says:

You could turn it around and carve the other side (if they didn’t eat that too) and have a nice big hole to set your candle inside!

  24. stacylee says:

You could have planted the mums in it!
