The End of Mowing

It’s a rainy October so far, but I expect to have to mow one more time to clean up the yard for winter so I’m waiting for the next dry spell. This has been my first year to mow and trim this yard myself. It’s been a huge undertaking, and a few times it got ahead of me and nearly out of control. (I had to go out of town for a week, twice.) The grass has been growing more and more slowly lately, and I’m enjoying not mowing and weedeating constantly. But I did it, I got it done, all year, by myself except for one time in May when I got some help to catch it up when I was behind. I went through countless gallons of gas, and one time had to get the mower blade replaced when I broke the blade on a rock hidden in tall grass.

This is a HUGE property, even after I fenced some sections in to reduce the mowing. I’m proud of myself! And looking forward to the one good thing about winter–no mowing!

I personally like it better when it’s all long and shaggy anyway. Especially out in the country.

I am more than happy when that grass stops growing!! And I have a 1/3 of an acre. I could not imagine mowing all the acres you own Suzanne!!

Several years ago, my sister lived in Seattle. She called me in the middle of January stating she had mowed her grass that day. Not sure how long their season was that year, but all I could think of was, “January”!! Yikes!!!

The place looks great Suzanne, keep up the good work!

We had so much rain this year, it has really slowed down the leaves dropping, they are starting and it has been extremely windy, so they are really coming down, we will have to mow to cut up the leaves several times yet, I too wil be so happy to use the tractors for the last time—-I am now learing how to use the snow blower 😉

You might consider a zero-turn mower. I cut my mowing time in half!

I love winter because I can stay inside and not feel guilty about not doing some outside chore!

I’m down to mowing once a week now. Every time I do I say “well, that should do it for this year.” Nope. It’s been an unusually warm fall in Connecticut. Temps nearly hit 80 twice last week. We are expecting a freeze tonight so maybe, just maybe I will truly get to say “that should about do it for this year.”
