Fall

More snow here this week. We’ve had so much wintry weather, so early, this year that I keep feeling confused. Is it January? In fact, it’s NOT EVEN WINTER YET. Technically, winter doesn’t even begin until next week.

Me and that bird? We think that’s a little scary…..

Here in Ottawa, Ontario, we have gotten dumped on so many times that I broke down this year and bought snow tires.
Who knew they make such a difference??? lol

  2. CindyP says:

And we were having 80 degree weather just last month….. now it’s just frigid and white………

  3. Bonnie says:

.. 12 degrees last night here in central AL! We have already had 2 weeks of way below average temps, freezing rain, snow, and more forcasted. This has been a odd “Fall” !

  4. Sherie Adams says:

Very cold fall here is Southeastern Illinois too! Sub zero and snow! We live in SOUTHeasten Illinois . . . . SOUTH! Love the picture of the little bird – I hope it can stay warm!

  5. Liesl says:

It is summer here in RSA…like 100mm of rain in 10 minutes time of year! Enjoy your white Christmas Suzanne!

  6. Mary says:

The temperature is 0 both yesterday and today here in Upper Michigan. The lights are blinking every now and then.

I was watching a documentary and I thought of you when I saw this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysOVLw30fvQ
It’s a fascinating series, and this is #4 in a series of 12, but when I saw this, I thought BARN for CITR! Here is some pix of another West Virginian that built a cob barn: https://countryplans.com/smf/index.php?topic=9849.0 (though, he uses much more wood than necessary).

  8. Jane says:

Oh, and it was 35 degrees here in Miami Beach this am.. I am feeling your pain to some degree;)

  9. Joycee says:

    Be afraid, be very afraid!

  11. IowaCowgirl says:

Jane – thanks for the links.

  12. Sara says:

    Um…Suzanne I hate to tell you this, but that’s Junco…aka a Snowbird!

  13. Melissa says:

I live in Colorado. By now, we should have 12″ or more of snow. So far, we have had .2″. It is snowing all around us but not on us!

  14. Louise Clark says:

    Sara, that is a titmouse.

  15. Ramona says:

    Sending you warm thoughts!

  16. leavesofthefall says:

Tufted titmouse, it is! His feathers look slightly puffed, which forms pockets of air within their feathers making for great insulation…. so he’s warm. Mine are enjoying the backyard bird cafe in this frigid weather as well…

  17. Betty says:

Yes that is scary!! Could not believe it when they said winter has not even arrived technically yet!! What have we been having!!

  18. lauren says:

Guess that all black whooley worm was right!! 🙂

  19. Barbee' says:

The Tufted Titmice have been busy at our feeder, too. We put out black sunflower seeds. They are supposed to be high in oil therefore calories. I hope that will save them. They are so cute. We are getting the Juncos, too, and Carolina wrens are loving the suet. I can’t get much done for watching the birds and looking out windows at our beautiful winter wonderland of snow. Looks like a good four to five inches, and that is our second one like that already.

  20. Journey11 says:

I got up this morning and actually pondered moving to Florida. How old do you have to be to be a snowbird anyway?

You’re right. It’s too early. Usually by now we are *wishing* for a white Christmas and lucky if we get one. I hope this isn’t a sign of things to come! :help: The snow I don’t mind so much. It’s the arctic chill that gets to me.

  21. Joy says:

Been thinking the same thing as that there bird, feeling confused, is it January??? … it’s been cold here in Indy since Thanksgiving week, and no end in sight so far. Mighty unusual…I may have to go find someplace :sun: and warm this winter! 8)

  22. cricketjett says:

What a beautiful little bird!!! We are keeping our birdfeeders well stocked. It looks like we are in for a long, l o n g winter!!
Suzanne, you are certainly a talented photographer. I love the snow from inside my house looking out. I am not a cold weather person at all, but would never leave the hills of West Virginia. It is just home!!!
