Familiar Scene

This is what it looks like outside your back door, right?

RIGHT?

No?

Hunh.

(That’s the Crooked Little Hen in the middle, by the way. Despite being told by numerous people that she would keel over dead, she is now four years old.)

Stay tuned. I have a “coop d’etat” planned AGAINST the chickens this week. You just watch!

Suzanne, I am sitting her chuckling! My thought for a new subtitle..is “Guess who’s coming to dinner?” or “This chicks’ got her eye on you!”.. oh my.. your chicken fan club awaits you.. beautiful birds.. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Gwen says:

hahha, i think this is wonderfull, and love the title quess who is coming to diner….. what a wonderfull view you have ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. lauren says:

Actually that is the exact scene outside my kitchen door. Do yours have you trained like mine? little taptaptap on the glass gets then some scratch ๐Ÿ™‚ LOL

  4. rileysmom says:

Well, yeah, it DOES kinda look like that at our house, too! Only it’s wild turkeys! We’re sure that they peek inside to see if we’re coming out to feed them!

  5. princessvanessa says:

I was wondering just the other day how the Crooked Little Hen was doing. It’s good to see her amongst the other hens. In the past CLH usually appeared alone or with Mr. Hyde (I think that was her rooster-friends name).

  6. Rose H says:

That photo made me laugh ๐Ÿ˜† REALLY wish it happened at my door..

  7. kpbarnett says:

    I LOVE this picture! :chicken:

  8. BuckeyeGirl says:

Haha! It happens at my house, but they moved around to the front door! Very annoying really having to sweep and clean it after I skat them away with the broom.

  9. Pete says:

Had to laugh because we have a similar scene at our doors. But, your staff is much larger than ours!

  10. gardnerh says:

Our hens used to hang out in the front driveway and wander into the garage. It was fine until they started leaving too many “presents” under the basketball hoop. I hear there’s nothing quite like a palm full of poo when you go up for a layup.

  11. chickenherd says:

Um, yeah, our back patio doors are stormed daily by feathered ‘zombies’. They’re after our brains. Or scratch grains….not sure which. Haha. Love it!

  12. Sheila Z says:

I had one that would knock on the door and come right in when I opened it. She enjoyed eating out of the cat food bowl.

I suspect you are about to host a Prison Planet show for the chickens.

  13. azladychef says:

We have 8 ladies who all would LOVE to be looking in the back door. My DH put up fencing around the back patio to keep them out but 2 of them are VERY persistent. Yup…there is one of them now….OFF HELEN!!!!OOOOFFFFFFF!!!!!! :chicken:

  14. GA_in_GA says:

If mine were allowed to free range without me, they’d be banging on the back door as well. However, due to the neighborhood varmints, they are only allowed out of their spacious run with direct supervision. Since I carry chicken crack, er . . . meal worms, they just follow me like the pied piper.

  15. Remudamom says:

My heeler doesn’t allow the chickens to look in the windows! I guess that’s okay, saves me a little bit of poop detail work.

  16. outbackfarm says:

Not my back door. But my front door and kitchen door all the time. 26 chickens, 6 cats and 3 dogs all lined up. If the goats and sheep weren’t behind fences, they’d be there too. Can’t wait to see what you have planned.

  17. lizzie says:

They just want to come in for a cup of tea? we have a resident hen on the front porch, she was picked on in the hen house, so now she lives on the front porch and lays an egg every day that she has for breakfast! its the big joke here at the house, no matter how careful you are, or quick, she always gets to the egg before us.

  18. BrownSheep says:

We generally have a couple standing guard at each of our doors.

  19. Johannaswolf says:

Ours don’t camp outside the doors. They have figured out that we are usually in the front basement room (computer/sewing room) when we are not outside so they all line up in front of the big window and tap on the glass at us and the cats that like to sleep on the window sill. One of the cats, being a little mentally challenged, still lunges at them every time they do it after a full year.

  20. AliciaN says:

LOL, not at my back door, but at my front door yes! They are just sure that the steps were built for them to roost on. Add a turkey and 2 ducks, plus lots more chickens, to that mix too. 39 chickens, the turkey and ducks are often all on the steps waiting for me when I get home. A fence around the coop is planned, but I expect they’ll be back on the porch when they are let out to do pasture detail. =)
