Fencing On

In the end, I decided to take the fence up to the top of the bank in the Park field, and here you can see the superboys taking it up the bank right past the trees.

The field isn’t quite finished, but more fencing will commence today with Dave and Matt. I’m adding a line of fencing across the front (road-side) of the farm, connecting up to the rest of the fencing around the barn and fields. I was sitting on the front porch one day when it hit me that one line of fencing (with a gate at the drive) would enclose the house and studio grounds because of all the other surrounding fencing. And that if I did that? A dog could never leap from a nap to the road in two seconds flat and be hit by a car ever again. There would be a fence in the way. (Coco update: I believe she WILL get to come home this week!) I still need to finish the Park field, and I’ve also got Patriot’s field to repair, so this will be a busy fencing week. The superboys have Wednesday off work so will get to come back then to join in. (We will be back on the studio work asap–taking a short break to take care of the animals.)

P.S. Hopefully, I can spill The News later today.

Glad to hear Coco is doing well and might be home. She is going to be a happy dog to be back home with her people.

Maybe you posted this previously and I just don’t remember but what kind of fence are you using for your fields? Glad to hear that Coco is coming home soon. I can’t wait to see Patriot grazing in your fields. What a pretty sight that will be!

Have you thought of putting either barbed wire (two strand) in place of the woven wire or one or 2 strands of electric fence inside to keep the animals from stretching your fences when they are up? It really keeps the amimals where you want them and once they get hit once or twice they don’t usually try the woven wire again and your fencing stays put really like you first put it up new. Using the new pin insulaters you can get a nice tight stretch on barbed wire so it stays taunt for a long time. Just a thought!
The place is really taking shape and I’m glad to hear Coco is coming home. How is the puppy doing?

So glad to hear Coco is finally going to be able to come back home. I know you and Morgan will be relieved to not be trudging back and forth to visit too. Can’t wait to see Patriot home with you as well. I’ll second a single strand of electric along other fences but it you use barbed wire don’t put that anywhere near a horse or donkey. Many a horse has had to be put down from the injuries resulting from an encounter with barbed wire.

So…..you are going to make us check in over and over again today, huh? 😉

Re: electric fence and city folk. Don’t let any city visitors carry a metal bucket when they go wild berry picking on your property. zzzzzzzzzpppp been there, done that!

Just a suggestion for using some braces in your fencing. The small animals won’t be a problem, it will be the large animals. They always like the grass on the other side of the fence. It won’t take much to push the fencing over. There should be bracing on both sides of every gate, too.
