The Four-Wheeler

Behold, Ross’s ATV.

I can drive it now.

The ATV has been sitting here since January, and it was sitting where it was before Ross bought it even longer than that. It didn’t like starting. This past week, I had a new battery put in it and had the carburetor rebuilt. All the old gas was drained out, and new gas put in. Ross asked me to ride it while he’s not here so it wouldn’t be just sitting anymore.

And my hired men said, “We’re going to teach you to drive it!”

I was curious but reluctant. I love four-wheelers. You know, riding on them. With someone else driving. My fear of driving the four-wheeler is akin to my fear of driving the tractor, but without the tragic family history story. I’m just a weenie about things that go fast. It’s a wonder I can drive my car! And get speeding tickets every now and then, so apparently I go fast, but never mind.

So the first time I drove it, I was totally freaked out. All the controls to operate it seemed foreign to me in the way they were set up. Totally different from driving a car. I was scared to death the first time I drove it and decided not to drive it again.

The next time my hired men came over, they said, “We’re going to teach you to drive it!”

They’re so persistent. And act like of course I can. Just like with the tractor. And just like with the tractor, I did learn to drive it–and realize that it was fun! In fact, I LOVE IT.

Now I’ve been driving it a little bit every day. You know, for Ross…..

Amazing what we can learn when we step outside our comfort zone! Great way to build self confidence! You go gurl!

LOVE riding 4-wheelers! We had three at one time, and there are only two of us. We are now down to one…and no where to ride. Hatfield-McCoy trail took over a place we used to go. Haven’t been riding since. I really miss it. It’s just not the same riding around the yard. Have fun and ride safe – you do need to be careful!

Next thing you know, you’ll be riding a skidoo through a ring of fire on the Kanawaha River.

Oh my, a new toy, please be careful, especially on those hilly areas, they can be so very dangerous, we have seen several accidents in the feilds behind our development.

HELMET HAVE WE??????? Driving slow in turns, loose soil and gravel. Watching for low hanging limbs and branches (also when on tractor). Go Cuzz….. be careful with the machine and it will serve you well. Rubber neck flowers too long…..and drive into multifloral rose is a big no no . Cousin Mark

My rule is to have nothing on the farm I can’t operate. Unfortunately when DH retired he took over the machinery and I will have to relearn two tractors and two ATV’s. I think the ATV’s are simple compared to the tractors.

Another warning, you can’t do sharp corners with them. Just go pretty slow and you should have no problems even with hilly land.
