Goat Apples

Giving the goat yard a rest for a bit, I’ve had the goats in the front barn yard. This afternoon, I was awed to watch them take an apple tree down.

They had that little apple tree beat in two minutes.

Luckily, I just planted four new apple trees and this apple tree was slated for a take-down anyway. Unfortunately, it’s located exactly where I want my new garden to be built, so I had already made the tough decision to sacrifice it. I don’t think the goats knew that, though!

And now you know why you don’t plant a tree in a barnyard.

Hmmm, I have a couple of apple trees that look like that also. It is amazing what they can do to a tree.

Trees don’t stand a chance with a goat. That’s why I can’t put my goats where my sheep are right now. There is a huge old Granny Smith apple tree out there. The sheep will not jump or stand on their 2 back feet or chew on the trunk like a goat will. IF there is a leaf or two hanging low enough, the sheep might reach their head up a little to get it. But a goat would climb on someone’s back to get it. Then up the tree. Goats are so funny. And sheep are not so bright. I love sheep. My 2 does are in the back yard bellowing right now. It’s raining. Another thing about goats. They will not go out in the rain. Not even for milking.

I hear they think a thrown out Christmas tree is a real yummy goodie. Good way to recycle trees.

I’m afraid to tell you, Suzanne, but I had an entirely different image in mind when I read “goat apples”!!!
