House Pyr

Most of the time, Gwennie doesn’t have much work to do. But, oh my, today! Two dogs I’ve never seen before came out of nowhere and walked up and down the road on my farm. Coco and Chloe were going nuts in the field. Casper was running around the yard. (The only dog actually able to approach the strangers, but that’s not Casper’s thing…..) And Gwennie! Going crazy inside the house.

Proof that she will defend me and our home. Don’t you think? Maybe?

I know, just what you wanted, to listen to someone else’s dog bark.

Yes, Suzanne, you will at the very least be warned by your Pyr’s.

I love a deep, big dog bark, can’t stand them yappy ones that bark for no apparent reason. (I had one, loved the little guy, but won’t have another, it will have to be a big dog next time…after I retire.)

I think it’s obvious that your pyrs will defend you and your property. Boy they are big dogs! Every photo of Gwen seems to show her lying down so you don’t get a good perspective of her size. The video was impressive. We don’t have dogs anymore so if a strange one shows up I start banging on things and yelling to scare them away. Makes me(almost) want a dog again. If I ever do get one I pretty certain it will be a pyr. Your dogs have convinced me of that.

Looks like Gwennie’s hackles were up, which as I see it, she is ready to defend what is hers to defend. You are pretty darned secure there, my dear!

You will definitely be safe from other dogs! The real test is what she does when strange people approach the house.
She was convincing enough that my dobe hopped up and started looking around for whatever had her so upset LOL

Way to earn your biscuits, Gwennie. Good girl.

Enjay my thoughts exactly. Will she be as alert & responsive when unfamiliar people approach. Suzanne, the best way to find out is to see her response when a delivery man or a friend who hasn’t been out to visit you in a while, go over to your place. If your dogs start barking at them, don’t hush them or scold them just let them bark. So that way they’ll know that it’s okay to bark at strangers. Some dogs get used to people, but other things start them up- like other unfamiliar dogs or animals. Anyhow, I’d say it’s good for them to bark at people, especially if you live out in the boondocks, you just don’t know what can come around. So to be safe, let them bark at people.

I think Gwennie was inviting them over to chat. I played the video and not one of my 4 dogs had a response. If not that they were wo taken aback by her deep bark they just stayed under their blankets frozen if fear. It is nice to know she will alert you to strangers, human or otherwise. Have a blessed day.

My Lab perked up at this post! I think he was afraid she was going to get his bacon!

  9. Barbee says:

I see the lamps are still on the tables, so she didn’t go too crazy. Good dog, Gwennie!

Yup, now you know Gwennie will protect the house if it’s attacked by strange dogs. 😆

Actually, it’s nice to know that if your lifestock guards raise the alarm in the middle of the night, Gwennie will join in and wake you, so that you can help protect your beasties.

I think Gwennie will let you know of strange happenings in the yard via the windows. She may well get used to strangers coming and going due to weekenders, but I expect if they try to come through the door without your ok, she will protest and / or protect as needed.

I think as an indoor dog she may need to have her nails clipped or dremelled. You shouldn’t be able to hear them clicking as she walks. They can and will grow to be uncomfortable for her. I expect you know that already and have just been your busy, busy self.

    🙂 Pam
