How Giant IS the Baby?

It wasn’t that long ago that Glory Bee was the same size as Poky and Jack! And look at that–that is Nutmeg walking RIGHT UNDER HER!

They grow up so fast. *sniff*

    🙂

  2. B. Ruth says:

Can you imagine the milk that “hoss of a cow” is going to give you one day?….You will be able to open a single cow dairy milk farm!
Maybe a cheese factory and ice cream parlor to boot!

  3. Cindy in Tennessee says:

:shimmy: We got a new baby calf today. The bull was put in w/ them 1st of July, so hopefully this is the first of several.

  4. Nancy Stickler says:

Holy cow! Pun intended. She’s nearly as big as her momma! Looks like she’s going to take after her papa…

  5. drumwife06 says:

How much does it cost to feed two cows?

    • Suzanne McMinn says:

The cost to feed a cow depends on the time of year. Glory Bee, of course, is still milking BP every day, too, as well as eating hay and feed. Feeding BP is a twofer since she also feeds Glory Bee. A cow can go through a bale of hay a day in the winter, but when grass is in, they don’t need any hay at all, so there are a lot of variables with the cost of hay different in different places and the cost of feed and depending on the time of year. I don’t think I know a figure off the top of my head. We get our hay cheap, though–about 2/bale.

  6. Window On The Prairie says:

I’d say she’s big enough to be weaned. :moo:

  7. Jennifer Robin says:

It’s going to be pretty funny when GB is bigger than momma and still nursing, which by the looks of that picture, is not far off!

  8. wildcat says:

That is one big baby! :dancingmonster:

  9. morningstar says:

She is lovely and such a beautiful golden colour. Hee hee just look at little Nutmegs face…. you got the picture Mum ? You got it yet? now I deserve a cookie after all this posing !!!!

  10. Karen says:

Gosh the baby is almost a grown up now!!!

  11. Ramona says:

    She’s as big as Momma!

  12. Enjay says:

Goodness Gracious she’s grown! Does she have to get on her knees to get the udder? I always found that amusing, giant calves as big as, or bigger, than momma getting down on their knees to get under her. Regardless of how much she loves her momma, I’m sure BP will be weaning her before too long.

  13. Connie from Ohio says:

Wow She is almost as big as her Mama.

  14. DarleneS says:

You can see she is well taken care of.

  15. GrammieEarth says:

Whew! Good thing you got a halter on her when you did!! SHe looks like she will be much bigger than BP in no time. Sigh…babies grow up much too fast.

Whew that’s a big baby! She’s such a pretty little thing, even if she IS rotten! 😉 One of our neighbors has I-Don’t-Know-How-Many calves right now and I always wish they’d let me give them kisses (apparently they don’t like that lol). I have such a soft spot for cows. Well, and sheep, goats, chickens, cats, dogs…okay all of ’em! That’s reason enough to buy land and start a farm, right? Right… :moo:

  19. Carmen at Old House Kitchen says:

Wow! She is getting big! I’d love to see a picture of how she nurses from mama. I bet it’s a hoot! She’s a gorgeous cow! I love her eyes!!!

  20. holstein woman says:

Goodness, she is certainly not underfed either. Nice job raising her.

  21. Lynette says:

I’m with Carmen at Old House Kitchen – I would love to see a picture of GB nursing from her mama. We city folk don’t get to see that everyday! :cowsleep:
