The Last Last Day

Today is Morgan’s last day of high school. And for me, it’s also my last day of high school. I’ve been in high school for NINE years!!!! I thought I’d never graduate! I kept getting put back all the way to ninth grade. THREE TIMES. But I’ve finally done it. Whew. And I got mostly A’s. Except on my first try, but that was due to my adoration of cars and girls. Oh, wait, that was Ross. Sometimes I get confused! I think, in fact, that I was never in high school at all! It just feels like it.

Actually, side note, I left high school (me, when I was in school myself) after 10th grade and went on to college. This is probably why I was eventually forced to spend another nine years in high school. I skipped out on half of it earlier in life.

Back to the present. Last night was scholarship awards night at the high school.

Morgan, left, with my other daughter, Jennie. Morgan has enough scholarships to just almost cover all of her college expenses. We’re very happy! She has grants to cover the gap. My other daughter Jennie is doing great, too, and also has her college covered. Jennie is going to Concord University. We’ll miss her! Morgan is going to West Virginia University in Morgantown. Hey, it’s her town! Of COURSE she must go there.

She was dressed up as Hermione Granger (from Harry Potter) the other day to make a video for her final project in Spanish. It was hot, and she said she couldn’t open her window because a goat might bleat or a rooster might crow or a dog might bark–and mess up her video. It’s hard to be a student on a farm…. And she warned me to NOT INTERRUPT HER. Under any circumstances. Then she took the whole video and realized afterward that she had audio turned off. So she had to do it all over again. She was downstairs, a little miffed, explaining her problem in this picture. She had done it perfectly and there was no audio!

Graduation is Friday and it’s over. No more high school. It’s hard to believe.

In case you want to enjoy a little treat in Spanish, this is Morgan’s Spanish 3 final project. It’s IN Spanish, but it’s fun for the angry cat (played by Buttercup) in the beginning, and if you hang in for the bloopers at the end, they’re great. And yes, she remembered the audio this time.

If it makes you feel any better about those 9 years in high school……I’ve been in high school for 31 years now. Three of my own and 28 years as a teacher and librarian. Congratulations to Morgan!

It’s been a long time since my HS Spanish (1974 to be exact) but I caught enough to follow the story. Congrats to Morgan! My oldest granddaughter is only a scant few years behind Morgan – guess that means I’m getting old 😀

To Morgan: CONGRATULATIONS! It takes a lot of hard work to get enough scholarships to cover your school expenses (with the help of a few grants). Count yourself so LUCKY not to be facing taking out loans to go to college or having to join the military to get the GI bill to attend college. I know you’re a very smart girl and will do great at college. I can’t remember what you want to major in but I’m sure it will be great. Enjoy your last summer as a kid before you grow up and become a college student. My niece Ali is a junior but has already been taking college classes and will be going to Texas A&M Kingsville to work and study this summer. I guess she wants to get some credits ahead of time. You’re both so SMART!!!!

Congratulations,Morgan and good work. I love your video and I don’t speak a word of Spanish. Oh, wait, yes I do. Hola. Taco. Burrito. Buenos Dias. Mon Dieu (oops, wrong!) You have a beautiful voice.

Suzanne, congrats on graduating high school. Finally. You have 3 of the smartest children I know. Morgan has a lovely speaking voice. She would do well on TV or radio. I hope you all have a fabulous summer.

My prayers for Ross and Wes’s safety and success in their military careers. Also, my condolences on your father’s passing. I know I felt like an orphan when my dad and mom passed.

I am also finished high school, and my daughter has already walked. It is a real relief. College is next on the horizon.

Congratulations to Morgan, and you! Her video was a treat. Loved the out takes and the angry cat too! She does have a lovely voice. I’ve loved Morgan since you first started writing about her on the blog and we didn’t even know her name. It’s been a great treat watching her grow up and change. She’s lovely and fun.

My high school French does not help translate the story but I think it is a pubic service announcement warning not to pick up yellow cats without full face helmet and welding gloves? We are so proud of our Cousin Morgan and her advancement in higher education. Seem so long ago we were in the woods collecting leaves for tree identification projects with the McMinns. Given enough homemade taco salad, nacho chips and Dr. Pepper she will go far. Too bad Hilliary Clinton will possibly beat her as first woman President of USA. Way to go Morgan and Mom!!!!!!!!!
