One Concession Stand Is Not Enough

I get to have two. It’s not just football season. There’s volleyball.

Last night was Morgan’s first home game in high school. I was on concession stand duty.

By the way, there’s nothing I like better at a concession stand than a little kid, dreaming of a hot dog, popcorn, sour Skittles, and a Pepsi, and counting his money to see if he can buy it all.

I’m used to the football concession stand. Overstocked. Ready for a crowd. There’s always a crowd at high school football games. I was really surprised at the light (understatement alert) attendance at the girls’ volleyball game. Well, I mean….. I’m not into sports myself, but still. Makes me sad for the girls that they get so little support. I suppose that’s typical for girls’ sports. This is, of course, my first experience with girls’ sports in high school. The concession stand was, to my football concession stand experience, shockingly understocked. (This is a totally separate concession stand–the volleyball concession stand is inside the high school building. The football concession stands are up at the stadium.) But then I discovered why they were, to my eye, understocked. There was hardly anyone there anyway, so it wasn’t really a problem.

(I was taking pictures from the home team side, so the view here is to the visitor side. There were a few more people on the home side, of course. But not a ton more.) Anyway. MORE shocking was Morgan’s hair. I hardly recognized her. And I even knew her number (14) and thought I must be wrong.

Why, that girl has TWO EYES!!!!

Suzanne, she’s going to KILL you for posting that picture! lol She does have two pretty eyes, but you’re dead because of the “hair-do”. Hey, when you play girls’ sports it’s all about keeping your hair out of your eyes so you can SEE the ball, not making a fashion statement. But…being female, I’m sure she’ll shriek when she sees it.

  2. Nancy in Iowa says:

I would definitely go to her games if I lived there! Go, Morgan!!! :dancingmonster:

Morgan is such a pretty girl. I like her hair pulled back away from her face. I hope she enjoys high school this year. She is growing up too fast. Congratulations on your great kids.

  4. Shelly says:

You are so funny. Morgan does look great with her hair pulled back. Volleyball is such a fun sport. You have 4 years to watch it, lucky you. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

LOL! I hate it when I cant spot one of the kids in a crowd. But I know how you feel, when my youngest daughter went to the pool this summer off came the hat, glasses, the hair came out of the pony tail and low and behold there was my pretty little girl again!!! Morgan has such a pretty face its nice to see the whole thing! πŸ™‚

Morgan needs to wear her hair out of her face. She has a very pretty face. She is going to kill you. lol. I know my dd yells when I caputre her and she did not know it. lol.

As a fellow volleyball, I too am getting ready to do either concession stand or ticket sale duty. It is sad there isn’t more of a crowd there. My kids attend a lutheran school (k-8)that isn’t super big, but we have packed stands. We only have one set of bleachers on one side, but there is always a good turn out, even for the visitors.

  9. Deborah R says:

Surely y’all remember being a teen, so you know that saying Morgan looks so pretty with her hair away from her eyes (she does!) will only make her want to pull all her hair over her entire face!

So I say let’s tell her that she looks so pretty and little girlish with her hair covering her eyes (she does!) so it’ll work in reverse and she’ll keep that second eye exposed. πŸ˜‰

  10. Mary says:

Morgan looks so pretty. I hope she wears her hair that way more often. I can’t imagine her getting upset over that picture. It’s a beauty.

  11. Ang. says:

Let’s face it, watching girls volleyball is akin to watching paint dry. Its no wonder the crowds are small!

  12. KentuckyFarmGirl says:

She’s a doll! Some of our sports here are like but as long as the kids are enjoying playing that’s what really matters. (But it would be nice to have a bigger crowd)!

BTW, I finally mailed your package yesterday so it should be there soon.

  13. CindyP says:

I LOVE watching volleyball…just because I miss playing it! When we were in school, volleyball was in the winter, but seasons have changed so much for the girls.

Well, at least a small concession stand leaves you time to get some pics in!!! Love the look, Morgan!!!! Can’t wait to see some action shots with that new camera, Suzanne πŸ˜‰

It’s amazing what a coach can get done that a parent can’t. I taught at a middle school for 15 years. The power of coaches is amazing. They can get hair cut, makeup off, shirts tucked in, attitudes changed!

Hi Suzanne! I’ve been enjoying your blog for a few weeks now and just wanted to say ‘Hi’! You live much the same way we do, except you have more animals!! My son has been in the Navy for 2 1/2 years now. I hope your son is doing well and loving it as much as our son does. (We actually live just a short drive north of the naval base at Great Lakes.) Just wanted to let you know that I’m enjoying your blog!

  16. Nancy says:

How pretty she is with two eyes! I hope she doesn’t mind the pic either….she really is a beautiful girl!

  17. Barbee' says:

Morgan is cute any way she wears it! And, isn’t that little boy cute; kids have so much more money now days than I did when I was a kid… no such thing as an allowance back then… nothing, nadda! He is practicing his math skills; I can see it in his face.

  18. Susan W. says:

Ahh….don’t all kids try and look like their role models? Morgan copies her mom with her hair and dress. Why does that come as a surprise to anyone?

  19. Miss Becky says:

Morgan is so beautiful and I love her hair pulled back like that. I bet one day she will too.
