Rainy Day Milking

Nov
23

It was raining this morning, so I didn’t want to tie Glory Bee out to the tree. Since I’ve got Beulah Petunia temporarily stationed in the goat yard, I don’t have a sheltered milk stand (or any milk stand), and I wasn’t too eager to milk in the rain, either. Instead, I tied Glory Bee to a post in the goat pen and brought BP in there to feed and milk. When I was finished, I let Glory Bee have her way with mommy. Everyone was happy and dry!

Part of farming is logistics. We have a constant game of musical pens going on at our place, as critters grow and needs change.

Taking care of critters in rain and yucky weather is really a hassle….

You’ve got this about figured out! We are supposed to turn off cold Thanksgiving day with highs only low 40’s. This has been a long fall here, mild weather but I know we will pay for it with bitter cold just around the corner. Hope you have a wind break where you milk BP. Our grandson had a project at school with persimmons. Old folktale is that if you cut the seed open there is a knife or a spoon shape inside. The knife means cutting cold and the spoon more snow than normal. Mrs. Jefferson is one of those teachers that goes beyond teaching the basics, the kind you remember when you are grown!
