We’re having a heat wave. Upwards of 100 degrees here. Summers are hot in West Virginia, but 100 degrees doesn’t usually happen. Nothing’s happening on the farm. It’s too hot. I haven’t gotten the rest of my hay in. The barn is too hot. The animals are hiding in the shade or in their shelters. Flowers are shriveling. It’s hot!

Yesterday, here in S.W. Michigan it was 102 degrees with heat index of 111 degrees..Dh, came home from work totally exhausted..

It’s hot in Colorado too. Up here in the foothills (7,200+ ft) it’s been 95-100 degree weather. It’s unusual, especially so early in the season. The nights (most nights) cool down at least, but then it’s hotter than you-know-what as soon as the sun comes out in the morning. Our pets are doing a lot of sleeping on our cool wood floors.

North Central Missouri checking in at 103 actual temperature. Heat index about 110 with no rain in sight!

  5. rurification says:

Southern Indiana checking in at 103 degrees. We haven’t had more than .03 inches of rain in a couple of months. They’re predicting another week of this kind of heat and all the rain stayed north. This is the first time I’ve seen fields full of dried grey-brown corn. At least no wildfires here. I shudder to think what would happen with a stray firework in one of those cornfields.

  6. CATRAY44 says:

Michigan is hot and dry as a bone, too.

  7. CindyP says:

Hot, hot, hot and dry in Western Michigan, too, even by the lake! We’ve had sporadic internet and cell service the last couple day…I’m blaming on the heat and humidity.

  8. Flowerpower says:

The Weather channel just said 107F here in West Tenn. You cannot breathe out on my porches and no rain for a while. I have begun trying to water to keep things alive but its a losing battle sometimes. I feel sorry for animals out in this heat…Thank goodness for shade trees. :happyflower:

Phoenix checking in with an actual temperature of 112 degrees, tomorrow – 113. Of course, we don’t have the humidity that the eastern part of the states has, so it probably doesn’t seem quite as bad as what you’re getting. And we’re pretty accustomed to high temperatures here. Nevertheless, we usually are around 105, so the high temperatures are hitting us here, too.

  10. whaledancer says:

Wow, those temperatures are unreal. You’re smart to lay low. Sometimes people forget that extremely high heat can be just as dangerous as blizzard conditions, and should be treated with respect. I hope you and your animals get a break soon.

  11. Darlene says:

It’s 102 here in Kansas and dry as a bone. I’ve been feeding a ferral mama cst and she’s not looking very well. Wish I could catch her and the babies.

  12. tea4too0 says:

Here in NE Oklahoma, it got to 103 and more of the same till next Thursday. We did get a good rain one day last week, so things are still greenish. I have been freezing water in milk jugs and putting them in with the rabbits and the one chicken I have in the carport, (She is an oldster and does not play well with the others!) Me and the dog are closed up in the house under the AC. Ya’ll take care and shaded! T

  13. Rainn says:

:sun: Sounds like CITR retreat weather!!……..from what I remember last sept!! Weather is so strange-here on the coast of Maine it’s rained for days?!?! Drink plenty of fluids WV!

  14. princessvanessa says:

Darlene–bless you for feeding the ferral mama cat. I am sure that you are her glimmer of hope in her rough life. It brings tears to my eyes to think of her struggling with kittens. God will surely bless you for your compassion..

  15. KarenAnne says:

Do what you can to delay climate change/global warming, people. It’s going to get worse until either we manage to fix the way we live or these temps and lack of rain will seem like nothing.

I’ve already been doing stuff, but I’m redoubling my efforts to use as little energy and water as possible. Our town just went to single stream recycling, so much more can be recycled.

  16. CATRAY44 says:

Hope you are ok, today, Suzanne. Sounds like some awful weather there.

  17. holstein woman says:

We haven’t seen heat here and don’t know when we will be able to get the hay in as yet. In Oregon.
Hope everyone in the middle and eastern states can find relief. BLESSINGS

  18. Leah says:

Seems we get the same weather more often than not even tho I’m in IN! ( how do u spell the raspberry sound I wonder.) 🙂

  19. SuzieQ says:

Hope you are OK.. Just heard a bit ago that WV had 80% without power. It was 102 yesterday and same today (NC). Power went out this morning but DID get back on after an hour or two. Hope yours is back on soon if it is out. Wishing everyone cooler temps. :fairy:
