This Girl and This Week

Yesterday, I put Morgan on a plane to Texas. When she comes back, she will be a high school senior. Hard to believe. She’s grown up enough already, though, to handle all kinds of connection trouble with her flight. Her flight out of Charleston was delayed. Then delayed again. She missed her connection, missed a second connection, then finally made a third. One airline employee in Atlanta, where she was making her connection, thought she was so grown up, they tried to put her up in a hotel overnight until another employee had the foresight to ask how old she was. You have to be 18 to be put up in a hotel. They finally managed to get her on a flight and she’s where she’s supposed to be now. Most people would find this all very frustrating, but I think Morgan actually enjoyed maneuvering herself through her connection obstacle course on her own. She likes to be grown up. (Sigh!)

Meanwhile, LauraP, who is co-teaching this week’s upcoming workshops with me, arrived. She’s staying in Morgan’s room. Morgan got it all cleaned up for her, which means this is the only time it’s been clean all year. Morgan likes to leave little instructional notes for guests in her room and in her bathroom. “The washcloths are in this drawer.” “You can read any of the books on my shelves, but don’t read the books stacked on the floor.” (The ones on the floor, she explained, were her to-be-read piles and she doesn’t want anyone messing with her system.)

About this week–starting tomorrow, Thursday, there will be five days straight of workshops here. This retreat includes two days of cheesemaking, one day of baking, and two days of soap and herbals. I will update every day here on the Daily Farm page and share the fun! And yes, I HAVE WATER BACK!!!!

Morgan sounds amazing. As if flying isn’t complicated enough these days. I am so with her on the book system thing…very picky about that myself! Glad you have water back in time for all the fun too! I look forward to your updates on the retreat.

My daughter is also a rising senior in high school and away on a college campus for most of the summer. Much too quiet around here without her around.

Glad your water is running again!

And no one better touch ANY of my daughter’s books. She is happy to lend them to you, but you have to ask her politely. lol

I am so impressed with Morgan! I have been ever since she was just an age number on your blog (13? 14?). And yay! for the water! Have a great time this weekend and don’t let yourself get worn down….take time to enjoy it for yourself.

So glad she got there safely even with the problems. Sometimes we don’t see them as problems, but obstacles. Enjoy your water and have a great time this weekend. It’s like having a sleepover for 5 days. Wish I could be there too. Hi to Cindy P..
Will be looking forward to the posts.

If she ever gets stuck in Atlanta again, she’s welcome to stay at my house!

Glad she finally made it safely to her destination.

Have fun at your workshops! :snoopy:

Legs and books, Morgan’s growing up cool. Luv seeing ambitious TBR piles. Bet she had fun negotiating the challenges of air travel.
As for Mom, have a great retreat. Good luck to you and Cindy P. So wish I were there.

  7. Louise says:

They grow up too fast. You have great kids.
Have a wonderful workshop this week, wish I was going to be there too. I hope to be able to attend another one sometime in the future. The last one was great. Take lots of pictures for us.

I’m ready to hear about the workshop! I’m happy that Morgan was able to navigate the twists and turns of air travel today. I’m not sure that I would be able to do it. Luckily I don’t have to fly for work and usually don’t for vacation either.

Good luck with the workshop. Maybe Maia will make some cheese! 🙂
