Twenty Feet of Garland

My Christmas tree.

It’s a real tree this year, a Douglas fir. It’s the first year I’ve had a real tree here. The first year we lived here, I had the infamous hanger tree. The one Morgan called insane, until her friends loved it, then suddenly it was cool and she asked for it again this year. But I wanted a real tree. I’ve always loved real trees, and this year since I had someone to help me manhandle a real tree, here it is!

With twenty feet of popcorn garland with cranberries and dried oranges, limes, and lemons.

Gingerbread men, cookie stars, and candy canes.

And Spiderman (and Star Wars and Disney–from the kids’ childhood days) and some old ornaments I hand-made years ago.

I’ve been loving it.

(Ross and Morgan will be here. No Weston this time, he can’t get leave for Christmas.)

    What a lovely tree!

I’m sorry Weston can’t come home for the holidays. But you have your other two, and your handy helper! Happy holidays, Suzanne. May all the best things come to you this season.

I made a garland for the first time this year following your post. I hung it on my prelit evergreen garland framing my large kitchen window. I love it!

Although artificial trees are nice for the convenience and you can leave them up for a long time, nothing beats that wonderful smell of a live tree. Instantly transports me back to my childhood when everyone had a real tree. Have a Merry Christmas!

Did you use any special gingerbread man recipe? I’d like to make ornaments also and would love your recipe. Thanks

A real beautiful country style Christmas tree. I love it all. Till 2 Christmases ago we had a real tree. And now, it’s too hard to get on the floor and water it. And it was always my job to get her out to the curb. Which left a trail of needles on my carpet. So we got a fake and to be honest,I love it. I tried to get one as real looking as I could and it looks pretty nice, prelit, too.
But yours is so pretty with the garland of popcorn and orange slices, gingerbread men. May you enjoy Christmas with everyone while you can.

Your tree looks so festive and must smell heavenly. It’s beautiful, Suzanne. I hope you enjoy your time with your family. I moved home to our family farm this fall to help my elderly mom., Only two of my three boys are coming home. My mom and I are already cooking up a storm. We eat shepherd’s meat and potato pie for Christmas morning breakfast with hot fruit every year for good luck. My middle one is in China teaching this year so he’ll miss it. But we are planning a Christmas Eve Skype with him. I hope you get to do that with Weston.

Merry Christmas sweetie, and may 2016 bring you and yours much joy, good health and security all year long!
