Two Hours

There was a planned two-hour power outage today between 10 and noon. Why don’t they plan power outages between 10 and midnight? Or two a.m. and four?

Why can’t you buy colored toilet paper anymore?

(It was a long two hours. I had a lot of time to think. And make spiced winter squash butter. The recipe will be in the September CITR newsletter. Are you signed up? It’s free! Go here for info to subscribe.)

    That looks delicious!

I’d forgotten that they ever made colored toilet paper…LOL! Do they even make colored tissues any more?

  2. lemniskate says:

I think the dyes in colored tissue was found to be not so good for… well, delicate tissue ๐Ÿ˜‰

Same goes for road work. When it’s planned, maybe plan for it NOT to happen duing rush hour???

The power has been going out here in town during the night. We come back to the business…computers off and strange things happening. It fried my favorite adding machine and I am quite sure it’s not doing the walk in cooler a bit of good either. If you ask….they know nothing!
That winter squash butter looks good. :happyflower:

Uhm, probably a rhetorical question, but…lol
If they planned it at night, alarms wouldn’t be set and people like me, who use CPAP machines to breathe at night would be up. I know this because they DO plan power outages here for the middle of the night. Can’t tell you how many times the power has been cut from midnight to 4am so they can work on the dam or electrical lines. It’s a no sleeper night for me and a LOT of people don’t realize the power is going off and are then late for work as the alarm they set when they went to bed doesn’t go off. lol

So THAT’S why you’re having yours cut off during the day. Because it’s well known that between 10am and noon, NO ONE is doing ANY business. lol (Around here, that time seems to be one of the two the most productive time periods of the day!)

Why don’t they cut if off from 7am to 9am? Who knows? Most stores aren’t open yet. Most people are just coming into work. Most people don’t seem to go straight to working, but piddle with coffee, breakfast and catching up on each other’s evening. Seems that they’re just getting going at their work at 10am.

We have about 20 winter squash still on the dying vines. Judging by the pictures above I now know where wome of them will go! :fairy:

I was curious about colored toilet paper. I’ve never heard of it before. Apparently it was introduced in 1954 by Northern. Popular in the 60’s and 70’s. People would color coordinate tissue paper with their bathroom counters and such. Then it went out of style because doctors said the dyes weren’t good for us. And because the white ones are more environmentally friendly. Add to that, white paper is cheaper to produce, with a cheaper retail price, there wasn’t much of a demand for it. Scott was the last company to still produce it, and they discontinued it in Dec 2009. Yay for google, who led me to the Toilet Paper Encyclopedia. =)

Ok, what do you do with winter squash butter? Is it sweet like apple butter? Inquiring minds…

Our outages usually occur around the time I need to get dinner ready. I take that as a big hint to order take-out. :snoopy:

Darlene, 7:00am to 9:00 won’t work, either: think of all the electric coffee makers working at that time. All those coffee drinkers deprived of caffeine? Brr, doesn’t bear thinking about. ๐Ÿ˜‰
After hours they’d have to pay overtime. How about 3:00pm to 4:00pm? Most people are feeling pretty drowsy then, anyway. It’d be a good time for a nap.
When we get it all worked out, Suzanne, you can submit it to your power company. ๐Ÿ˜€

My husband doesn’t work for an electric company but one that supplies equipment to them. The electric power industry has been scrapping along on old equipment, outdated lines, etc. for decades. Tree trimming to get limbs out of the way of lines has been put off. Not nearly enough infrastructure for a vital resource for people like Darlene in N GA. Since its a planned outage, I’m guessing that they are FINALLY replacing something vital in the power distribution system. Better a planned outage than a week without power cause something fails unexpectedly taking a lot of other vital equipment with it. (Hey, then my husband’s company will get a BIG order. ๐Ÿ˜€ )

I’m sorry for every one of you who have to put up with the planned power outages OR any. A couple of years ago our PUD got tired of decided our area was the next to get fixed and we got ALL new lines. So we don’t have to put up with power outages any more. YAH :snoopy: They used to be non planned and for days. :hissyfit:
