Volunteer Pumpkin

We have a sign post with our farm name at the bottom of our driveway. There’s a rose bush planted at the base, surrounded by wire protection, and we keep a flower planter on top of the post.

In the fall, we set out pumpkins on the ground beside the post.

This year, we have a volunteer pumpkin! Must have seeded itself from last year’s pumpkin display.

That should make for an easy fall display. Can’t get much more convenient than grown in place. How accommodating of the pumpkins.

Geeze Suzanne, your sure have a way with animals, you get birds to seed your raspberries and squirrels to seed your pumpkins. Now if only Clover would knuckle down and make some soap!

I hope it wasn’t a hybrid pumpkin. I love volunteers of any kind in the garden or ditch or flower beds.

Who gets to water the pot each day?

I love volunteers. It’s always a surprise where they show up. This year I got a bunch of dill – so much that I didn’t have to plant any. Nice!

I love volunteer plants! I have petunias growing in pots I never planted them in. Marigolds all through my raised garden beds and in the mulch surrounding them. I have been transplanting some of them into bare spots.

Neato, so all you’ll have to add this fall is some cornstalks and you’ll be all set.

I have ,I think is a pumpkin growing in my old wash tub on the deck. I plant flowers in it and I think the squirrels planted the seeds in the fall in it. I also have a pot of petunias that reseed every year and is just full and gorgeous and it didn’t cost me a thing. :snoopy:

I have three squash plants growing in my flower pot full of sage. As soon as my daughter eats the peas from the garden box on the porch, I am transplanting them. I’m hoping that they are volunteer sweet dumpling squash, since I could have sworn I’d ordered seeds but they never showed up in the mail and I am not quite sure where I ordered them from. It would be really convenient if they’d volunteer themselves.

We had a white pumpkin that I thought had volunteered itself under our back porch one year. The vines looked really pretty growing up the porch. My son confided that it wasn’t a volunteer. We were doing a planting project for nursery school (that’s how long ago it was, he just graduated high school today). Anyway, he pushed one between the porch slats to see if it would grow. It was really pretty and I always wanted to try it again.
