Water Watch

I just got back from picking Morgan up from school early. It’s raining-raining-raining. I’m worried the water will get up and I won’t be able to get her from the bus (across the river) later. I also brought some things to Weston and gave him a hug goodbye for the weekend. He has weekend plans and is afraid if the river gets up by tomorrow, he will miss them, so he’s spending the weekend in town starting tonight. Lots of rain in a short period of time always means there is a chance we will get stuck.

I can see the river ford from the porch in the winter when the leaves are off the trees.

I’m always watching the water.

Morgan was so excited to get to come home from school early. Of course, girls basketball ended Tuesday, so she’s not missing any practices or she would have been upset. I said, “Morgan! You’re so much fun when you’re between sports!” Track starts next week…..

Send some of that rain this way! We are still in a severe drought. South Carolina is in danger of becoming a desert!

Raining in Oklahoma too! We need it tho..

    Good luck!

We had some storms roll thru in NE Texas this morning as well, but they’re wrapping up now… NOW the pastures will really go to greening up!

Our creek is a’rising too. I moved one vehicle to safety and the other one I’ll park up the road after returning tonight from Ripley. I have a feeling the crossing here will be covered sometime during the night. Thankfully we don’t have anywhere to go tomorrow. I think I’ll leave the window slightly open so I can hear the creek during the night.
    BTW, wet chickens look funny.

you need to name the river I think it is poca river not much of a river when it is dry but a little rain an look out

I hope you don’t get stranded. If you do, think of the time you will be able to put in on your downstairs project! Maybe Morgan will even help you if you promise her favorite recipe! We too are expecting a lot of rain starting tomorrow. I have no river to cross, but I do live at the bottom of a large rocky and forested hill. My basement doesn’t get wet, but our lonngg driveway has a tendency to turn into a skating rink.
Guess I should probably stock up on some sand!
Good luck to those being rained upon, and wishes for rain for those that need some.

Hope you don’t get stuck. That would be scary to me.

No rain here, but started snowing again. Just a few days ago we finally melted all the huge drifts. We are trying to dry things out so we can start on the new barn and more snow isn’t helping.

  9. BuckeyeGirl says:

I have trouble sometimes when the snow piles up or our driveway gets too icy. Not nearly as bad as you have Suzanne, but with lots of canned goods, plenty of flour, extra food stored up, an emergency gallon of milk in the freezer, as well as powdered milk too, a few days (or more) being stuck here isn’t the end of the world. I went practically two weeks not log ago without needing to go anywhere! Oh yeah, the hens supplied plenty of eggs to!

  10. ellen mcbryde says:

no rain here..just a drought..send some rain our way

  11. Mary Ann says:

We watch the water here, too… and I commisserate for your having to keep pumping water to the house! I hope it doesn’t freeze there, as it is here tonight… more snow!

  12. Julia says:

I understand about being stuck. We had 2 feet of snow this past weekend and are expecting the same starting tonight until Friday 10 PM per Accuweather.com. So much for California being sunny and warm.

  13. Nancy Stickler says:

Nasties headed our way in CT too!

  14. holstein woman says:

We are getting poured upon here in NW Oregon also. I thought we had missed most of it until today. We just got our alfalfa in for the dairy cows and pulled a neighbor out of the mud where she went off this morning before 6am. I just looked at our weather forcast and we are in for sun tomorrow and 17 degrees tomorrow night. My poor cows! :cowsleep:
My chickens spend their days under the deck on the back of the house when it snows. It looks kinda errie when you are used to seeing 60 hens running around the field and yard and they are not there. They hide well when it snows, but they are still laying well.

  16. Glenda says:

We got 2 inches of rain here yesterday. I waded water in the parking lot at the local market.

We needed the rain are very happy about it. Some low-water slab crossings were expected to be flooded.

I hope you don’t get locked in again, but chances are good you will be.

Doing chores isn’t fun in this kind of weather!
