We’re Having a Party Today

Oct
2

Last-minute preparations are underway. We were up late last night making soap in advance of the party so that soap set and ready to come out of molds can be brought out at the end of the demonstration. I also have two bowlfuls of milk and basil soap that I made in advance in sample sizes that attendees are free to take.

The soapmaking demonstration will be a two-parter, with mixing lye and cooking soap then a second part to show how you know the soap is finished cooking and how to place in molds. (After that we’ll bring out the set soap that we made last night to unmold and cut.) There will lots of other demonstrations, including steam juicing and pickle-making as well as taking turns milking Beulah Petunia. I’ll also have some of my displays out from Heritage Days and have butter-making. The petting zoo will be open all day. Clover is taking a shower and putting her makeup on right now. She can hardly decide what to wear.

And I think there’s gonna be a lotta food.

There are a bunch of fun door prizes, including two Chickens in the Road calendars and two Ball Blue Books along with a variety of other things, some of which are being brought by attendees to donate to the door prizes table.

If you’re coming, can’t wait to see you; if you’re not, can’t wait to show you pictures!

LOL to “Nancy in Iowa”! I was at Suzanne’s house last night for some pre-party fun. When I saw the soap (out of the corner of my and AND from a distance), I thought it was FUDGE and I was getting ready to go over and eat a piece of it. Suzanne, CindyP and Natalie got a BIG ROFL out of that one!

Georgia and I will see folks there!

Cousin Sheryl, I know why you can’t type this morning… you girls were up late last night having a good time! I forwarded this post to my husband after first telling him the photo looks like something to eat, but it’s not, it’s homemade soap! I am so glad you are bringing Georgia! I was hoping she would be there and everyone will enjoy being with both of you. If there are name tags, I hope you wrote yours as “Cousin Sheryl”, that would help everyone know. I think this is just the nicest get-together.

  16. Vicki in So. CA says:

Oh, that soap DOES look delicious! :hungry: I’d like to take a little guest bar home with me… that is IF I was able to be there in the first place! 😥 All the demonstrations sound like so much fun. 25. lavenderblue says:

Geesh, not only am I late to the party, I’m late to the posting about the party. Party day for me was spent watching my kids in a big cross country race. If my son does well in his race on Tuesday, yesterday’s race (Oct.2) will help him qualify for a bigger race in NYC next Saturday. I’m excited for him but wish the big race was at Stringtown instead. We’re going, of course, if he makes it but I’m not a NYC kind of girl.

But please, please, please post plenty of pictures.

  26. Zusiqu says:

I’m looking forward to seeing the pictures!

  27. Ramona says:

All this soap making is so interesting. I’m gonna have to try and find a demo now!

  28. Sheila says:

I wish I lived closer , I’d love to learn to make homemade soap (that isn’t melt and pour LOL) and see a milking demonstration and meet clover :).

  29. KateF says:

Do you possibly have a recipe for soap making? Or know where I can find one? I’ve always wanted to get a goat and use it’s milk for soaps and lotions. thanks
