
This is not your usual rye based, molasses laden steamed bread. This is a dense, moist, sweet bread, more cake than bread. Good served warm with cream cheese and just as good cold. I will decrease the amount of sugar next time – it is very sweet. I also cut the recipe in half for the two of us.

3 cups raisins
3 cups water
1 stick butter
Pinch of salt
4 teaspoons bking soda
1-1/2 cups sugar
5-1/2 cupsd flour
1 cup chopped nuts
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 eggs, beaten
1/3 cup molasses
Directions
Cook together the raisins, water and butter. COOL. Add the rest of the ingredients.
Pour into 2 greased and floured prepared pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 40-50 minutes. Test with a toothpick. Serve in thin slices.
