A New Veggie Favorite–Lemon Cucumbers
Posted By Sheryl - Runningtrails On August 1, 2011 @ 1:03 am In Blog | 2 Comments
We love cucumbers!
Last year, we discovered lemon cucumbers. It’s an old heirloom variety that is making a comeback. I planted them because the advertisement said they are very sweet without any of the bitterness. Having never even seen them before, I had to try them!
They are called lemon cucumbers because of their shape and colour. They are not lemons and do not taste like lemons. They are short and round like a lemon, making them ideal for sandwiches–another reason I wanted to grow them.
We got our first ripe lemon cucumber yesterday! It was delicious. Sweet without any bitterness–just like the ad said!
We eat cucumbers many different ways when they are in season. We are especially fond of them on sandwiches. Cold cucumber salad is another favourite. We eat some pickles, but not a lot, so I only make them every two years or so.
We are definitely growing these little babies next year!
