My stepmother gave me a recipe years ago and I’ve lost it. It was like eating a candy. Saltine crackers were layered into a cookie sheet with sides. Then a butter mixture was cooked in a saucepan and then poured over the crackers. After a little while in the oven, it was removed and then chocolate chips were sprinkled on top. When they melted they were smoothed. When the whole shebang was cool, it was broken into pieces. It was so delish, and no one would have guessed it was made with saltine crackers.

I have a recipe that I adapted from a 2007 Rachel Ray magazine. And you’re right, the recipe is fiendishly tasty … keeping it in the outdoor freezer keeps most of us from inhaling it in one evening.
It’s called Salty Chocolate Peanut Butter Brittle, but you could easily forgo the peanut butter part if you prefer just the chocolate.

I got this recipe at a cookie exchange at church. It was labeled “Chocolate Bark” and I think it might be what you are describing.

I have a two versions of this recipe. They are from a series of Mystery books I read recently. A combo of mystery and cooking (with the recipes). If you like mystery series with quirky characters let me know, I don’t know if it would be a conflict with Suzanne’s books. I will submit the two vanilla and choc. versions.
