Cuban Bread

No time for homemade bread. This recipe allows you to serve your family delicious homemade bread in about an hour. Wonderful with soups and stews. Great crispy crust.

Difficulty: Easy

Servings: 8-10

Prep Time: 5 minutes   Cook Time: 58-68 minutes

5-6 cups flour
2 Tablespoons yeast
2 Tablespoons sugar
1 Tablespoon salt
2 cup warm water

Mix 4 c of the flour with yeast, sugar and salt. Pour in hot water and beat 3 minutes with a mixer or 5 minutes by hand. Stir in remaining flour until no longer sticky. Knead 8 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, cover with damp towel. Let rise 15 minutes. Divide into 2 pieces. Shape into 2 round loaves and place on a baking sheet. Cut an X in top of each loaf. Brush with water. Place on the middle shelf of cold oven. Place a cake pan of hot water on lowest shelf. Heat oven to 400. Bake 35-45 minutes or until bread sounds hollow when tapped on bottom of loaf. Delicious served with homemade soup.
