German Cole Slaw

Delicious crunchy cole slaw. I give in pint jars with tag giving length it’ll keep etc.

Difficulty: Easy

Prep Time: cutting veggies

7 cups shredded cabbage
2 large onions cut fine
1 large green pepper cut fine
1 large red pepper cut fine*
1 large carrot, peeled and cut fine
1 stalk of celery cut fine

*can use small jar pimento if can’t find a red pepper.

1/4 teaspoon turmeric
1 teaspoon celery seed
1 teaspoon mustard seed
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup vinegar
1 cup sugar

I have had to double syrup ingredients to be sure and have enough to cover vegetables.  It depends on how large your vegetables are.

Put all chopped vegetables into a large bowl.

Mix up the syrup and bring to rapid boil on stove.

Pour over vegetables in the large bowl, mix well, and cool.

Place in covered glass jar or individual pint jars and put in fridge. Will keep in fridge 3 weeks!
