@bonita: Thank you for your comment! @roosterrun: I used one stick of softened butter. Thank you for bringing to my attention that fact that I omitted butter from the ingredient list. @Glenda: If you could see the daddy Wren, you wouldn’t believe how uncanny it is that the boy looks AND acts like the daddy Wren and the […]

Today we celebrated Amy’s birthday even though her birthday was a week ago. Our family members could coordinate and harmonize their calendars better today than last Sunday. A celebration can take place anytime plus I firmly ascribe to the ‘birthday zone” theory. A birthday is really too special to confine the revelry to just one […]

For Cake: Combine first 5 ingredients in a large bowl. Add eggs and oil and stir until dry ingredients are moistened. Do not beat, just stir. Add chopped bananas, pineapple, pecans and vanilla to batter. I used 2 1/2 bananas to get 2 cups. Stir well. Pour into three well-greased and floured cake pans. Bake at 350 […]

Syrup and Biscuits wrote a new post, Accidental Chicken Salad 9 years, 8 months ago
I had a very unfortunate incident occur that wound up being the impetus for chicken salad. I was roasting TWO chickens for a nice big dinner. Sooo, I put TWO whole chickens in my big ol’ cast iron Dutch oven. (I never know if Dutch is supposed to be capitalized here. I capitalize out of […]

Cut tomato in half. Scoop out center. Season both sides with salt and pepper. Stuff tomatoes with chicken salad. Serve […]

@Rosina: I’ve never used butter as the fat in this recipe. However, I think if you used butter in the same amount as the recipe calls for shortening/oil, it shouldn’t present a problem. If you’re going to do that, I would stay away from margarine and use real unsalted butter. Esther was referring to sweet milk […]

@Rosina, the five eggs in this recipe are enough to make any batter rise! Yes, it makes a beautiful tall pound cake. Instead of shortening, I use cooking oil and my cakes have always come out just fine. Please write to me and let me know how your’s turns out.

Linda Goble, she was talking about sweet milk vs buttermilk. I just use regular milk when I make it.
