This recipe comes from my sister, Desiree, and is really moist and filling – we eat it for supper here!
Servings: 6Prep Time: 20 min Cook Time: 1.5 hours
8 bread slices, crusts removed
2 cups grated cheddar cheese
1 1/2 cups small sausages
4 large eggs
2 1/4 cups milk
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
1/4 teaspoon onion salt
1 – 10 oz can condensed cream of mushroom soup
1/2 cup milk
2 tablespoons margarine
1/4 cup fine dry breadcrumbs
Line a greased 9×13 pan with bread, trimming to fit. Sprinkle cheese over top. Scatter sausage over cheese. Beat eggs together well. Add first amount of milk, mustard, onion salt and pepper. Mix. Pour over cheese-sausage mixture. Chill overnight. About 1 3/4 hours before serving, mix mushroom soup with second amount of milk pour over all. Melt margarine. Stir in crumbs. Sprinkle over soup mixture. Bake, uncovered, in 350 F oven for about 1 1/2 hours.
