I’ve been experimenting with making my own stove top type of stuffing. I’ve come up with a recipe that everyone likes, so I’ve made up baggies of the mix to use just like the box.

Difficulty: Easy

Servings: 4

Prep Time: 5 min   Cook Time: 5 min

Ingredients

3 cups bread crumbs (whatever size you want, I made my own using the large sized grater attachment on my processor)

1/2 TBL parsley

2 TBL dried onion or 1 TBL powdered onion

2 TBL dried celery or 1 TBL celery salt (I would use Mrs. Dash for a no-salt recipe)

1 tsp thyme

1/2 tsp pepper

1/2 tsp turmeric

1/2 tsp sage — If you like a sage stuffing. I don’t use it all the time and just mark my bag “Sage”.

1 1/2 tsp powdered bouillon or 1  1/2 cubes bouillon, crushed (or you can replace the water with broth when cooking the stuffing to eliminate this ingredient)

Directions

Combine everything in a ziplock baggy for when you want stuffing fast.

Directions for cooking:

Bring 1 1/2 cups water (or broth) and 1/4 cup butter to boil in a saucepan. Stir in contents of bag; cover. Remove from heat. Let stand for 5 min. Fluff with fork.

    CindyP,

I knew just where to look when I needed recipe help, Farm Bell Recipes. Friday evening at my DSD’s house she made dinner, it consisted of browned pork chops, apple pie filling and stove top stuffing. She poured the pie filling in the bottom of the baking dish, the browned pork chops went on top followed by the stuffing mix. Baked it covered for 30 minutes and then uncovered for 10 more. It was good but a little salty. I thought it would be a great use for dehydrated goodies but I’ve never made stove top before. Your recipe will be my guide. I think it would be terrific with some dried cranberries added to the apples and stuffing. Thanks.
