This pie has been a tradition in my husband’s family. It reminds me of a pecan pie without the pecans.
1 cup sugar
1 tsp orange extract
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup evaporated milk
1 tbsp flour
4 egg yolks (reserve whites)
Mix all ingredients together (except the egg whites).
Beat the egg whites until stiff and add to mixture.
Pour mixture into regular pie shells (not deep dish).
Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes to an hour (insert knife in center and when it comes out clean the pie is done)
