Texas Sheet Cake

This is an old recipe that has many names. This was my Aunt Marg’s version.

Difficulty: Easy

Servings: Depending on how cake is cut I would say at least 15 pcs.

Prep Time: 15 min   Cook Time: 15 min for cake, 10 min for frosting

2 c. flour
2 c. sugar
1/2 c sour milk  (add 1 Tbsp. vinegar to milk)
2 eggs
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 c. shortening
1 stick margarine or butter
1 cup water
6 Tbsp. cocoa

1 stick margarine or butter
4 Tbsp. cocoa
6 Tbsp. milk (add 1 tsp. vinegar to milk)
1 box powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

In a bowl mix flour, sugar, sour milk, eggs, vanilla and cinnamon. In a small pan mix shortening, margarine or butter, water and cocoa. Bring to a boil and let boil one minute. Add the boiled mixture to the ingredients in the bowl. Mix well and pour into 11 x 17″ sheet cake pan that has been greased and floured.

Bake for 15 minutes at 350°.

In a pan bring to a boil the margarine or butter, sour milk and cocoa. Remove from heat and add the boiled mixture to the other ingredients in a mixer bowl, mix well and spread on warm cake.
